BackerKit FAQ

How does BackerKit crowdfunding work?

Crowdfunding is a collaborative way to bring ideas and projects to life. Project creators post their idea for a project, and backers pledge money to make the project possible. Backers get behind the scenes access and backer-only rewards, which can include exclusive products, special pricing, creative input, content, and more.

To become a backer, select a pledge level that features the reward(s) you would like to receive when the project is successfully completed and make your contribution.

All-or-nothing crowdfunding model: The creator sets a funding goal and a deadline to raise funds. If the project does not meet the goal by the deadline, backers credit cards are not charged and no money changes hands.

Crowdfunding projects can happen at various stages of the creative process. Make sure to check the estimated timeline of when rewards will be delivered. Project creators will keep you updated on the progress toward completion and delivery of your rewards.

Backing a crowdfunding campaign is not the same as purchasing an item from a store. When you back a campaign you are supporting the creation of something new. Rewards are almost always delivered, but are not guaranteed.

When will I be charged for my pledge?

Your payment method will not be charged right away. You will be charged for the amount of your pledge when the campaign ends and the project reaches its funding goal. You will not be charged if the campaign does not reach its funding goal.

What happens after the campaign is over?

The Creator will send out a survey that will ask you for more information about your pledge, your shipping information, additional items you may want to add to your pledge, and collect shipping fees if applicable.

The survey will be sent to the email address we have on file with your pledge.

Any additional payment will be charged when you complete your survey and confirm your order.

What do I need to know if I commission you?

General: I give updates at the end of each stage (Sketch, Lineart, Flat color, Full color) and you may request an update once a week if I haven’t given you one. I will inform you when I’m starting the commission. Usually it takes me a few weeks to get through a commission with my other work, so please do be patient or inform me upfront of any deadlines, so I may either accommodate or tell you it isn’t possible. If it turns out that the commission is not possible in your time frame you will be refunded. Edits: During the sketch stage you can give me 3 major edits. I will generally present you with 2 base sketches to choose from (these will be very loose and just to help me get an idea of where things will go on the page), you pick the one that suits you best or make a new suggestion, and we get to have 3 edits to pose and details at that stage. Then I will do a more detailed sketch to actually get specifics in place. I have 2 edits at this stage. After this I will send you a loose color mock up, where I allow 2 edits. After that point generally edits will cost you as everything should be decided and in place, and it would take me much more time to change things. Extra payment: Please be sure to give me correct information upfront. If your character’s color change halfway through me shading them I will do the previously agreed on colors unless you pay for the changes. For any change like that it will be an additional 15$, and I reserve the right to charge more if you should ask for something changing project scope. Refund policy: If I cannot complete the commission for any reason I will refund you completely. If you request a refund it will be done based on how far into the process we got. If I have not begun then you will receive a full refund. If we agreed on a base sketch, 75% refund. Agreed on colors and nicer sketch 50%, line art 25%, and if I have gone past that point I will not be rendering any refund and will give you the file as it is.
