Project Update: The Next Chapter
Thank you all so much for your support of Song of the Scryptwyrm. It has been amazing to see how excited folks are about the project and I can't wait to share it with you!
BackerKit will collect pledges over the next couple weeks. Please ensure your payment information is up-to-date so that there's no delay in processing your pledge.
After pledges are collected, I'll be opening up the Pledge Manager surveys, which will give you to the chance to add items if you wish, provide your shipping address, etc. Those surveys will stay open for a few months; I'll close them we're closer to fulfillment. That means you'll have the chance to update your shipping address if needed. Please note that shipping will be charged closer to fulfillment as well so that those costs can be as accurate as possible.
I plan to provide monthly updates here on the status of the project. If you have questions or comments, please feel free to post them here or reach out to me at [email protected].
Thank you again for making this possible!

PROJECT UPDATE
Project Update: The One Week (ish) Update
Hi all!
Thank you so much for your continued support and interest in Song of the Scryptwyrm (SotS). In today’s update you will find:
- Thoughts on Reading RPGs
- A Review of Song of the Scryptwyrm
- RPG + Legos (and other toys)!
- Cross-Collab Goodness
Thoughts on Reading RPGs
I used to consider myself one of those folks who reads far more RPGs than they’ll ever play, but then I got to thinking about what counts as “playing an RPG.” I don’t have a great answer yet - maybe I never will - but if I’m reading through an RPG and it is inspiring ideas, it has me thinking about the setting, it has me excited about the game mechanics… it feels a lot like I’m already playing. For SotS I wanted to create a book that not only offers play in the traditional sense but also creates a play environment for those who are enjoying the game by reading through it. I hope it successfully supports however you like to play your RPGs.
A Review of Song of the Scryptwyrm
I like creating games that are accessible to kiddos as well as adults, so it’s always great to hear I’ve achieved that. There is now a review of SotS from TTRPGkids.com that not only dives into the game itself but also player age range considerations:
It has a very all-ages vibe (so, young players and adults) with the reading level being probably about 4th grade and up (which is the point in many US schools where students are expected to be able to effectively read for learning other topics versus learning how to read).
For playing with younger kids or kids who are still learning to read, it is totally possible to play this as a duet...
RPG + Legos (and other toys)!
And speaking of great games for all ages, you can also check out the new TTRPGkids.com for a review of InfiniBrix, a rules light, story-first tabletop game that helps families and friends of all ages tell wild, wonderful stories and play epic action scenes with their own construction bricks and minis. Pop over to the crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter that’s underway now to learn more!
Cross-Collab Goodness
Finally, if you’ve not already done so, please check out the BackerKit project from TTRPGkids (who are also my cross-collab partner): Greeting Games! They just reached stretch goal #7, which means they’ll be donating even more games to libraries through International Games Month 2025. This has also opened up goal #8: hiring an artist to illustrate a short set of adventures about a cat who travels through books!
Thanks again,

PROJECT UPDATE
Project Update: Funded + Collection Card Test Print!
Hi all!
As you may already know, Song of the Scryptwyrm is fully funded. Thank you so much for your support and interest that made that possible!
As bonus news, I have received the test print of the collection / oracle deck cards from DriveThruRPG’s print-on-demand service and they turned out amazing! Designing these cards was a highlight of creating this game, and whether you are getting to look through them as a PDF or as an actual deck, I hope you enjoy exploring the suggestions and hints they hold about the Great Library.
Thanks again,

Hi all!
Since we’re already funded and there aren’t any stretch goals to talk about, I figured I’d provide some creator commentary. I hope you enjoy this rummage through various thoughts and ideas that popped into my head while designing Song of the Scryptwyrm.
"Books bend space and time."
- Terry Pratchett, Guards! Guards!
When I run RPGs, there are a few concepts that I inevitably gravitate toward. If you’re thinking “I bet it’s libraries,” you’re not wrong. But in addition to libraries, I love to muck about with time… and there are multiple places where time muckery appears in Song of the Scryptwyrm.
Exhibit 1: The Forbidden
Here’s the card for The Forbidden without the symbol/title/etc. scribbled on top of it:
It's a letter that got time looped during the delivery process, and it amuses me greatly that this apparently happens often enough that the postal service has a stamp and bespoke caution tape to slap on affected letters. Plus the letter/number set in the lower left corner of the top image is the call number for Terry Pratchett’s Thief of Time. It seemed appropriate.
Exhibit 2: Stolen Document Investigation Form
There’s a series of checkboxes you can use to identify issues that came up during the investigation, including time travel. At least you don't have to complete an addendum when it happens.
Thanks for reading through my ramblings. If there’s an element of the game that you’d like me to chat about here, let me know in the comments!
