Project FAQ
Crowdfunding often takes a lot time. Sometimes it can take several months or even years for a project to go from "funded" to "fulfilled." Since shipping prices can change, BackerKit charges shipping separately through their pledge management service. This assures the most accurate prices at the time of fulfillment. Luckily, you shouldn't have to wait quite that long for Spider Island, so long as you fill out those surveys!
There will be two Spider Island release events: Release Party at Adrift Tiki Bar 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 14th 218 S Broadway, Denver Silent Book Club at Haven Coffee and Books 10 a.m - 2 p.m. Saturday, July 18th
To receive your book for a release event, you must meet two requirements: 1. Back the campaign before the official launch date of May 28th 2. Fill out this RSVP form (https://forms.gle/msuxut6EoV1eTcLeA) This assures I can order stock in time for the event
In order to have books for my release events in July, I have to have orders in prior to campaign launch. Some of my books ship from the UK and can take up over a month to arrive. My dates for both the release events and the campaign are strict do to multiple contributing factors, so this is my solution. Think of it as a special reward for being an early fan.
If the banners for the other book bazaar projects aren't showing in the bottom of the campaign, it's most likely because the collab isn't live yet. Check back May 28th – June 30th for projects. You can browse the teasers at the link below. (https://www.backerkit.com/c/collections/book-bazaar-summer-bonanza/coming_soon#nav)
Yup, I explained the situation, and they are all fine with pre-funding. If you're backing early, I do encourage returning May 28th and back some of the other projects. There are additional collab rewards if you back 5 projects or more. There are also some really cool projects in the Book Bazaar.
Depends on the kid. Spider Island has strong language and a few scenes that may be scary for young children. Consider it a solid PG-13.
Arbor Giants will be out sometime in 2027. I'm aiming for a release earlier in the year, but I'm still in the process of editing. If edits go well and production doesn't take too long, I aim for a February release.
Yeah, I feel you. Like I said, I'm doing what I can to lower those numbers. My estimates are based on flat rate USPS shipping prices, so Pirateship should offers some discounts. However, I won't know exactly how much those discounts will be until fulfillment rolls around. I'm also looking into the option of drop shipping, but this would mean that international books won't be able to be signed before they arrive. I can send a signed bookplate, along with the additional rewards, but this might also end up being expensive. If you live internationally, and have opinions on drop shipping, please check out the poll under the community tab.
Audio is going to be a tough tier to reach, but if we do pass our audiobook stretch goal, all members of the deluxe tiers get audio for free! Those tiers are deluxe for a reason.
It's a secret 😈 I'll tell you now though that audio is most likely going to be hard to make. There are a lot of costs associated with audiobook production and while I'd love to have a Spider Island audio eventually, but it might not be during this campaign.
BackerKit FAQ
BackerKit Crowdfunding is an all-or-nothing collaborative funding platform. Creators share their project ideas and set a funding goal with a deadline. Backers pledge money to help make the project possible.
If the project meets its goal by the deadline, pledges are charged and the creator moves forward. If it doesn’t, no one is charged.
Backers often receive special rewards for their support, such as:
- Exclusive products
- Bonus rewards for backing related projects
- Discount pricing
- Behind-the-scenes updates
- Creative input opportunities
Pledging in crowdfunding is a commitment to support the creation of a new product or project. Unlike a traditional purchase, you're not buying an item that already exists. Instead, your contribution helps bring a creative idea to life, and in return, you typically receive rewards (such as the product itself) as a thank you for your early support.
- Select a pledge level with the reward(s) you would like to receive
- Select any add-ons
- Confirm your pledge!
- You are charged only if the campaign meets its funding goal.
- Charges happen when the campaign ends, not when you pledge.
The creator will send you a survey to:
- Ask you for more information about your rewards (selecting options, etc)
- Collect shipping information
- Offer additional items you may want to add to your pledge
- Collect shipping fees (if applicable)
The survey will be sent to the email address we have on file with your pledge. Additional payments are charged when you complete the survey.
Only the project creator and the BackerKit Support Team can see your pledge and contact information. Other backers and the public cannot see your individual pledge amount or personal details.
You can change or adjust your pledge level and add-ons before the campaign ends. After the project concludes, cancellations or changes are at the creator's discretion and may depend on what stage the project is in.
Overtime Mode extends your campaign past its original end time to give backers a final chance to make their pledge. It will add an additional 10 minutes past the end time as long as pledges keep coming in. The campaign will end when there is a 10-minute period without any new pledges.
