PROJECT UPDATE
Project Update: Fulfillment Mostly Complete! Digital Tasks Paused Until Next Week.
Hello, supporters! I just wanted to give you a few updates.
The bulk of orders have now been fulfilled. Many people have already received their game in the mail! There are a few people who got their backer survey in late whose orders will get processed starting next week.
The next phase of project delivery is:
The bulk of orders have now been fulfilled. Many people have already received their game in the mail! There are a few people who got their backer survey in late whose orders will get processed starting next week.
The next phase of project delivery is:
- Create the PDF version of the rules (as an alternative to reading it directly on the Going For Broke page).
- Update the Digital + DIY Kit to fix a typo on Ben's card (which was fortunately caught before printing).
- Email all "House Meeting" and "New Roommate" backers to schedule our actual play sessions.
All of that is going to happen really soon! Starting next week. But it's currently on pause, because I am getting married this weekend, and preparations are now all-consuming. Once ya girl gets hitched, she'll resume project fulfillment. Thanks for your patience!
PROJECT UPDATE
Project Update: Now Shipping!
Great news! Going For Broke is now printed, shipped out from the manufacturers, and received in its three fulfillment hubs: US, UK, and here in Canada. Shipping to backers is now underway.
This means we're about a month ahead of the schedule.
Here are some more details:
This means we're about a month ahead of the schedule.
Here are some more details:
- US-based orders are being handled by a long-time fulfillment partner.
- UK-based orders are being handled by another existing fulfillment partner.
- I'm handling all Canadian and other worldwide orders.
- I hustled and have already sent out all orders that were just a single copy of Going For Broke for all Canadian and other worldwide backers (non-US, non-UK). I'm now working on the orders that contained add-ons, which will be a little more slow going (since every package is a little different).
- We accidentally ran out of copies of Variations on Your Body! Whoops. We're waiting on a short print run of Variations on Your Body to arrive in the US hub, and a separate one from a Canadian printer to arrive here in Canada. The moment those books arrive, orders with a copy of Variations on Your Body included can be shipped out.
- I'm prioritizing mailing everything out, before completing my remaining digitally-oriented tasks: a PDF version of the rules, an updated version of the Digital + DIY Kit that fixes a typo, emailing higher-tier backers to schedule actual play sessions.
And for a cute way to end this update, here are a few progress shots of my shipping process. This all-pink packaging is used for any orders that I send from here in Canada that are for just a single copy of Going For Broke.
PROJECT UPDATE
Project Update: Going For Blush
Have you completed your backer survey? You have until April 12 to complete it so that you can receive your copy of the game! Please message me if you need a new link.
Going For Broke has a signature colour. It's a faint pink. Depending on who you ask, it might be called blush, lotus petal, valentine's day, lace pink, millennial pink, or simply: pink. A little bit more playful and vivid than ballet slipper, but not by much.
The thing is, that's a tricky colour to nail in print.
When Going For Broke first adopted this signature colour, in CMYK terms, it was just the magenta slider set at 13%. Based on early tests from a couple card printers, it was bumped up to 15%. When the Backerkit succeeded and I was able to pay for the big print run, I was sent one final printed proof to make sure everything looked the way I wanted it to. Hm. The pink wasn't quite right. Close, but not quite. So I made one final change to the print files, bumping it up to 17% (but keeping it at 15% for digital; I just needed the colour to show up a little more vividly in print).
Fiddling over this detail also meant that there was time for one of the project's backers to catch a typo on Ben's card, meaning that I was able to correct it before it went into print. Thanks, Joseph! I'll be updating the Digital + DIY Kit some time in the next 1-2 weeks to fix Ben's card there as well.
The release timeline that I described here is still on track. Everything's just peachy! Well... more rosy than peachy. Blushy? It's a difficult shade to describe.

Project Update: Complete Your Survey!
Hello backers,
I'm excited to share some status updates:
I'm excited to share some status updates:
- The Digital + DIY Kit has been finalized.
- The print run for the physical copies has been paid for and will be under way shortly.
- Backer surveys have been sent out.
Please locate and complete your backer survey! It was sent to the email address that you used to make your Backerkit pledge. The survey is what allows me to give you your copy of the game. It's also how you pay any sales tax and shipping costs associated with your order.
The moment you complete your Backerkit survey, you should be now able to download your copy of the Digital + DIY Kit. The kit contains everything you need to print your own DIY set of cards or play the game virtually. Whether you want to browse an image gallery of individual cards, print off self-contained playsheets that have all the reference info alongside each roommate card, or find some overlays you can use for streaming, the kit should have you covered.
Edit: I made a mistake setting up one of the digital download settings, so it wasn't initially available. I've fixed it now, I think, and so you should see the digital download option available from your survey confirmation page now.
Next steps:
- Ensure everyone completes their backer survey.
- Create a PDF version of the rules and add it to the site.
- Track the production and shipping of the physical cards.
PROJECT UPDATE
Project Update: Release Timeline
Thank you all so much! With your help, Going For Broke made it past the finish line! I'd love to share with you the timeline for what happens from this point forward.
Preorders: Now. For anyone who missed out on the Backerkit campaign, preorders are now live here.
Digital + DIY Kits: March. I aim to have the Digital + DIY Kits finished by the end of March. This is the zipped folder containing any PDFs and image files you need to either play virtually (over Zoom, Roll20, or similar) or print your own DIY set of cards at home. Every backer will be receiving a copy of this kit.
Print Production: March-April. Proofs have already been examined. The card and sleeve box layout files were just finalized. A few logistical details are being sorted out, and then the print run can begin.
Surveys: March 25. I am required to wait fourteen days for failed payments to be processed before I can send out backer surveys. Expect your survey to arrive on March 25. Completing your survey is mandatory - it's how I get the email and physical addresses I need to deliver your rewards!
PDF Rules: April. The rules are already available for free online, so you can learn how to play whenever you'd like. But right now, those rules are only available in-line on the page itself. That's not everyone's preferred mode of learning! The next step is to create a PDF version of the rules (which will also be available for free on that same page). I'm going to focus on this after all production and survey stuff has been sorted.
Surveys Close: April 13. Surveys will close mid-April, and at this point credit cards will be processed for all outstanding charges (your pledge has already been processed, so this will be taxes, shipping costs, and any post-campaign add-ons).
Product Receiving: May. Once printed, the card packs will be sent to distribution points in Canada, the United States, and the UK. I'm hoping they'll arrive in April, but this entirely depends on turnaround time at the printing facility plus international shipping time.
Product Shipping: May-June. I'm hoping to have the games sent out by the end of May. I'm hoping that everyone receives their copy by the end of June.
Now, all of this could change! It's common to encounter snags in production, shipping, packaging, and life. Maybe a box gets turned around at customs and it takes a month to sort out. Maybe I catch a nasty flu. Any of these dates could slide by a few weeks or months. Nothing above constitutes an ironclad promise. It's just the plan as it currently stands! But I'm hoping that it gives you a valuable frame of reference.
Thanks so much for supporting this project. Don't hesitate to ask questions if you have them.
