Project Update: First look - zine layouts and more game play details.

Heyo,

So, we are now less than a week away from the end of the campaign and anticipating a turnaround of less than a month from that date to fulfilment being complete we have already got all production underway as well as working on the final layouts for the zine.

Important: Because the turnaround on this project is short, there will be no late pledges.

In a few days I will come in with an update about timescales and what to expect when -- please don't ignore this as it will relate to surveys and things like your dog photos in the book. When we pass a deadline in April we won't be able make any changes or additions to the zine.

Right, on to some of the pages... First up, the cover and back cover. You've seen these before, so not much to explain here...

Next up we have the Creating your Canine section which runs to six pages. Here are the first four dealing with some example breeds and traits plus the archetypes for your criminal background.

Rather than reading pages of rules, the game let's you jump straight into the action, learning as you play. There are three phases known as PEE. The first of which is Planning where you build the heist, do your reconnaissance and attempt to gather equipment (stuff your owners have left lying around).

Heist generation works with prompts (d66) or your own ideas and involves completing the following sentence, replacing the bold and italicised words:

CLIENT wants you to steal TARGET from VENUE based in LOCATION.

There are also mechanics for reconnaissance and collecting items.

Two other game phases figure, Execution and Escape and I will be looking at them in the next update.

Next up is the Job Sheet which works alongside your Rap Sheet to keep a record of the heist and your character attributes. These are at the back of the book and will also be available to download for free from our website over at www.criticalkit.co.uk.

I'll end with the Escape layout which I am currently finishing up. There will be text to go on this page which details the mechanics for escape -- these are based on the amount of suspicion points you have racked up in the execution phase. This page gives you an idea of the artwork that features throughout the zine.

That's all for now. But I will be back early next week before the campaign closes to do a final call for pledges, show off more pages and give you a breakdown of what happens after the campaign has ended. Remember, there won't be late pledges, so if you do want to grab the book, please back before the campaign ends!

Wishing you a wonderful weekend,

Tim
