Project Update: Project Status - September 2025

Hey everyone! Checking in because it's been a year since this campaign wrapped up and we're definitely overdue for an update!

Progress

There's been some considerable progress on the page revamps, and it's been so amazing seeing some of my old art and characters come to life in a whole new way. Here's a sneak peek of a new scene we're adding:

Timing

As for the original timeline for delivery, there's a few reasons why I'll need to be moving it. The Booktopia event that I was accepted to in June 2024 seemed like an amazing solution to a lot of my issues in continuing my comic series: The funding would help me make the changes I wanted to make to some books that were showing their age, it would get me the stock to run a Book 4 Kickstarter, and would hopefully be an easier sell at conventions for folks jumping in at the very beginning of the story. It was going to take time, but since I was pretty underemployed, I had plenty of availability, and felt confident in a 2025 delivery based on my workload at that time.

However, just when I was launching, I was hired for a salaried job that was a full 40+ hours every week. Had it been like any of the previous crowdfunds I've run, I could have delayed the launch, but unfortunately, the timeline for the Booktopia event was set by Backerkit, and not at all flexible. So I went ahead as planned, and just hoped I'd be able to find a way to make up that lost time eventually. It was not an easy first couple of months, and there was a lot of drain on my energy as I tried to find ways to balance everything. I’m doing a lot better than I was a year ago, and the extreme relief of a full year of steady predictable income is definitely worth it for me right now.

But it’s been a year since this funded, and I’m about 33% of the way into the redrawing. My book’s definitely not going to be finished this year. Even 2026 might be tricky. I’ve been hiring art assistants to help with as much as I can, but the pace I can manage does not align with getting a book together this year, and that's been a huge disappointment to come to realize.

On top of my personal life causing delays, I live in the US where tariffs are being extremely volatile, and shipment to domestic and international countries moved into a really scary space this year, which not only affects how much it might cost for me to get rewards to a backer, but also how expensive books and other rewards will be when I’m ready to print at all.

I will continue to do my best with the time/resources I have to make this book happen, no matter how long it takes. But I also respect my backer's timelines and financial situations given the current political climate. The money accounted for book printing in this campaign has remained untouched, so if for any reason you would like to adjust or refund your pledge, please reach out. I'll provide an update once the project gets to a point where I'll be drawing money from the funds, re-evaluate shipping estimates based on the latest tariff information, and identify if there's a date after which refunds are not possible.

Thank you SO much for your understanding and for supporting independent artists and authors. I'll plan to make another update in a few months with further progress and previews.

Project Update: February Update!

Hope everyone is having an okay start to 2025 so far. I've gotten started with the updates needed all the pages and will continue to be doing my best to get through them fast so I can get the Sombulus Books 1+2 Omnibus Edition printed and into folks's hands. I'm getting assistance from some awesome artists to help with some of the flatting and shading, though a few unexpected things cropped up and are making progress slower than originally panned.  We'll get there though!

Here's a few peeks into the updates!  So excited to be introducing color!

Hi. I'd like to preemptively opt out of getting the patch now that I've found out that your collaborator is charging $22 USD for shipping for their patch.

Project Update: We did it!! The Sombulus Omnibus is happening!

IT'S OVER! Over a hundred amazing people turned out to support my fantasy adventure comic book, and I'm so massively grateful to each and every one of you!  We're going to be making some Sombnibuseseses!

Some of us are more excited than others.

I have a lot of work to do now that we've funded, so expect more updates as the book gets closer to completion. But! If you're looking for some other amazing comics, I've got some other fantastic webcomicmates with campaigns ending soon that I'd love to share with you!

Delphina's Comic Gushing and Fanart Corner

Ghost Junk Sickness

Ghost Junk Sickness is a high-action sci-fi story on the distant planet June7, where a mysterious figure called The Ghost is behind a string of murders. Vahn and Trigger are trying to claim the bounty, but messy ex-partners, political schemes, and cosmic horrors beyond mortal comprehension lurk in the ever-growing shadows surrounding them.

Fanart of a few my favorite characters: Erich, a very responsible guy surrounded by politicians but doing the best he can, and Vahn, who has weird tattoos that turn into monster hands when they get upset enough.

The Ghost Junk Sickness Kickstarter completes the seven-volume graphic novel series, so get the whole thing right now!

---

Cargo

Cargo explores a quirky group of tangentially-related friends in post-apocalyptic Florida, with personalities ranging from sweaty to snarky to "why am I here", as they endeavor to start a smuggling company in the most awkward ways possible. The art is full of beautiful ink and color work, and the humor is very silly and surreal.

Fanart of my favorite characters: SJ, who is shameless, and Matt, who carries the shame of ten people.

Cargo's print run is just starting, so go over and get book 1 on Kickstarter!

That's it for now! Thanks again, everybody!

Project Update: 3 DAYS LEFT AND 87% FUNDED! Help get Sombulus to the goal!

WE'RE ALMOST THERE! Just $440 to go before we reach our goal! Massive thanks to everyone who's been contributing to get the last bit of the way so we can make these books.  Please keep sharing with your D&D-tablemates, your silly-fantasy-loving friends, and anyone else who loves big magic goofs! 🎉

The whole campaign ends on Thursday morning, so be sure to finalize your contributions within the next few days!

Big shout-out to Nuclear Strudel, another weird amazing-looking comic with a tyrannical alien queen character that shares my name! (I always wanted both an empire and a cat!)  It's got a very dystopia-religious-zealot-Dune-scifi vibe, so if that's your thing, please check it out!

And remember, once this campaign funds, we'll be unlocking our Oracle Cards AND the cross-collab bonus patches for both this campaign and American Geniuses! Nice!

Thanks again for all your support in these last few days!
