Project Update: Less than 48 Hours Left! + Creature Feature #4 & #5: The Awakened Axocoatl and the Sinuous Sablescale
We're pretty close to unlocking all of the small enamel pins. The next two stretch goals are the topic of today's Creature Features: the Awakened Axocoatl and the Sinuous Sablescale.
The Awakened Axocoatl
Awakened Axocoatls start out their lives as tiny tadpoles living in estuaries. They mature into Axolotl-like creatures, hunting snails and using their shells as temporary homes. It is only through very harsh circumstances that Inlet Axolotls fully mature into Awakened Axocoalts. Whenever very strong storms hit their habitats, the stressful conditions cause them to metamorphose into these graceful dragons. As such, they have been synonymous with storms, and many cultures deem them as a bad omen.
One of the most dangerous Hidden Critters we've ever encountered, Sinuous Sablescales are cunning and intelligent creatures. Their obsidian scales are perfectly adapted to withstand incredibly high temperatures which allow them to seamlessly swim through lava. They gulp down molten rock and hold it in an internal sac in their chest cavity. They then spit it back out at incredible speeds at their prey, incapacitating it at a distance. Their aim is absolute.

Project Update: Frillback Enamel Pin Unlocked! + Creature Feature #3: Prismatic Frillback âī¸đ
Anyway, here's the third Creature Feature, conveniently about the Prismatic Frillback!
Being one of the biggest Hidden Critters ever recorded, it comes as a big surprise to note how far off into our excursions we managed to discover this behemoth. The Prismatic Frillback can be best described as a flying whale of titanic proportions. True to their namesake, the frills on their backs look like feathers, and they allow these large creatures change colors and camouflage themselves high up in the skies. These frills also contain symbiotic photosynthesizing bacteria that give them sustenance.
They live their entire lives lazily drifting among slow moving clouds. These highly intelligent critters form deep relationships with each other, and theyâve developed a complex language composed of deep guttural growls that can be easily confused with distant thunder.
Frillbacks are inquisitive creatures who can form bonds with other species. Theyâve been recorded playing with Lofty Cloudweavers; the smaller dragons weave their wool around the Frillbacks and decorate them while the Frillbacks roll in midair. While they usually sleep while floating, Frillbacks sometimes land on sky islands to rest from long journeys.
Hope you're liking these critter segments! We love to come up with how these Critters exist in their world, and writing these segments have been super fun đ

Project Update: Creature Feature #2: the Lofty Cloudweaver
The Lofty Cloudweaverâs grace is hard to ignore. With its bright yellow scales, soft and fluffy wool and bright blue wings, these dragons elegantly adorn the skies they roam. They have a long and slender body with an equally long and tufted tail, and a pair of powerful brown horns. Their wings have a shimmering effect to them, like a butterflyâs wings, refracting light and displaying beautiful hues of blue. These patterns are caused by the wingâs scale formation, and as such, every Cloudweaver wing pattern is different.
Cloudweaversâ name is not figurative: these Crittersâ shed wool turns into physical clouds you can actually stand on. Their maneuvers can weave clouds into specific shapes, and large congregations of Cloudweavers have actually created vast sky islands. Weâve even been able to discover rare creatures endemic to these sky islands, like the Solar Jellybloom!
Cloudweavers spend most of their lives between the clouds, high up in the sky. They usually make their dens in caves atop tall mountaintops or on sky islands of their own creation, and they use the harsh winds of their habitats to easily lift off and expertly maneuver in the sky. They are so attuned to the clouds, some have even learned how to conjure lightning by harnessing the friction from their wool!

Project Update: Creature Feature: The Ashy Eldlynx
The Ashy Eldlynx is a feline-like quadruped with a billowing mane and fur and a glowing, warm underbelly. It has large horns protruding from its head and a scaly belly and legs. Its back and tail fur seems to be in a gaseous state, but congeals into a solid once shed. It is theorized that Eldlynxes have a flame inside their torso, and that their smoky fur is the exhaust from that constant fire. This adaptation seems to have developed as a way to survive the cold, and as such, it keeps these creatures warm in the extreme temperatures of their lairs. This inner flame also allows them to breathe fire.
Eldlynxes have a soft spot for smaller sentient beings, especially those who play into their vanities. They have been known to guide lost travelers and shield them from the cold with their warm embrace. As such, spotting an Eldlynx has been hailed as a sign of good fortune when traveling.
Other than fire-breathing, Eldynxes have psychic powers, and it is theorized that they focus their powers through their large horns, enabling them to float freely in the wind. Some say that they emit psychic waves in order to communicate with other Eldlynxes, and there have been reports of Eldlynxes communicating simple thoughts and feelings with Bookwyrms and other smaller species.
That's it for our Creature Feature! Eldlynxes are noble, yet vain creatures. It's very fortunate we managed to befriend this one! What do you think of the Ashy Eldlynx? Drop your comments below đĨ
