Project Update: State of the Campaign Address

Backerkit Mid-campaign Update

Welcome to the State of the Project address for Advanced Armory 2nd edition.

TEXT SUMMARY
First up, we (specifically I) went quiet for a brief period. My father passed away last week, and I needed some time to process the loss. Fortunately, I have a lot of siblings so the business end of things went very smoothly. It was he who bought my first copy of HeroQuest when I was a wee adventurer, and none of us would be here today if not for him. I doubt it will surprise anyone, but funded or not, Advanced Armory will henceforth be dedicated to my dad. I will be adding a dedication page to the guidebook in his honor.

STATE OF THE CAMPAIGN
We are a little past halfway through the campaign and we’ve achieved 49% funding with 89 backers so far.
With only two weeks left, the trends do not point to success. But does that mean failure? It does not!
We will not admit defeat until after the clock has run out completely! Even then, the road does not end. It simply winds off in new directions.

Poll Participation
THANK YOU. Having feedback is critical for development, and most backers have been responding to the polls we’ve been sending out. We cannot express enough how grateful we are for this. Keep it up!

What is the progress on Wave 1?
  1. Throwing myself into work was helpful to get me through this past week.
    1. I was able to knock out the rest of Wave 1. All galleries have been updated.
    2. I got the first Wave 2 deck knocked waaay ahead of schedule.

What is status and future of 2nd Edition?
  1. We added the Early Bird foil after we had a round of pre-launch backers. An HTML error is preventing the early bird incentive from populating in their pledge breakdowns. In the case of CAV Goon (our example in the video), we went in from the creator’s side and checked. The early bird is showing up on our end for everybody who should be getting it. In the event any other errors occur, we have time stamps for every backer for when you signed up with us. If you made it in before the early bird window closed, we have you covered. If we fund, you will absolutely get your free foil promo card.
  2. What is happening with First Edition availability?
    1. We understand that there is still a demand for our original collection, so we are going to keep the First Edition bundle live on TheGameCrafter for the foreseeable future.
    2. HeroDraft may be updated with the 2nd edition and become available again in late winter or early spring 2024.
    3. Armor Sets and Blueprints are being reworked as part of Masterclass. The original decks will remain available as part of the first edition bundle.
    4. Mini Loot and Dungeon Security will not need any updates and will remain available.
    5. Vintage Loot The Room will also remain available, though this deck is formatted for old-school 90’s style dungeon crawling.
  3. What is going to happen with 2nd Edition availability if we do not fund?
    1. We simply will not go to physical mass production of any of our decks, at least not at this time.
    2. Wave 1 English decks will go live for print-on-demand between now and January 1st.
      1. They will be available on TheGameCrafter, and Printerstudio.com (based out of the UK).
      2. The Guidebook, once the digital copy is ready, will go live on DriveThruRPG.
        1. We’d like to do a “printer-friendly” version and a full graphics version. These would both be printable on normal-sized paper.
        2. We just discovered DTRPG has print-on-demand capability! We are looking into offering our cards and the book through DTRPG as well.
        3. Before we commit to their print-on-demand, we are going to give them a test run to check queue times and quality.
  4. What about the dice?
    1. Classic White dice are already in production. When they come in, we’ll put them up for sale through Etsy.
    2. We MIGHT do a follow-up campaign for JUST the dice.
    3. Though it’s hard to compete with Allied Express pushing their bootlegs. They even did a glow-in-the-dark set using the pirated Hasbro icons. Granted ours are waaaay nicer, but its hard to beat their price point.
  5. What about the digital decks?
    1. Digital decks will be formatted for print-at-home. If you want them produced professionally, please use one of our supported printers.
    2. We have a Plan B that requires our digital content…
  6. We will be launching a digital-only follow-up campaign. We may stay with Backerkit or try Kickstarter again. Gamefound was recommended, so we are looking at that platform as well.
  7. Without physical production, we can set a much lower funding goal. This goal will cover legal, admin, and art fees first.
    1. After that, our focus is to raise funds to pay for translation. Want digital decks (followed by print-on-demand) in Spanish? French or German? Pitch in and help us pay for those translations!
    2. Expanding into D20 systems.
    3. Our primary intended game system is clearly D6-based. Conversion is possible to other systems, but not everybody is willing or able to do that.
    4. So, we are exploring the possibility of doing D20 versions of some of our decks. This will broaden our audience and increase support for Advanced Armory as a whole.

Regards,
~Girot
