The Game

You are a Troubleseeker. An agent of Dame Fortuna. You are charged with taking back the luck stolen by the Oligarchs, the rich and powerful who suck the good luck out of others, leaving their victims destitute. It's time to deal them a new hand and balance the scales.

In this world, Dame Fortuna (also known as Lady Luck) blesses some down-on-their-luck people with the ability to visualize how much luck other people have, and tasks them with stealing back all the good fortune from Oligarchs who have harvested the luck of the unfortunate to hoard it for themselves.

Fortuna has been known to speak through random passersby, their voices shifting as she momentarily inhabits them to offer a word of advice or warning. In an era dominated by technology, Fortuna has adapted, sometimes appearing on television screens, in the reflections of windows, or even as a voice on the radio. Some claim she has even made appearances as a virtual streamer, her voice cutting through the digital noise to share her cryptic messages.

The mechanics operating Troubleseekers is a bit less traditional, which is of course part of the fun. Instead of rolling dice to see what happens, you play one hand of blackjack against the DM to see if your attempt succeeds. There's a whole bunch of really cool stuff downstream of that hook, such as how if you get a natural 21 that's a critical success.

Check out the quickstart guide here.

The Soundtrack

We are working with Downupright to produce an album to accompany play!

We all know video games get OSTs but who ever heard of a TTRPG having its own soundtrack? Well, no need to load up some random YouTube playlist of "dungeon music" to play a session of this game - there will be an album of music inspired by the lore of the world.

The album will be a mixture of ambient electronic storytelling with lots of foley, chill-hop, and a lot of minimalist Philip Glass inspiration, illustrating specific scenes and concepts from the game.

You can give a listen to the initial few tracks here.

Our initial goal of $1500 CAD (approximately $1000 USD) will include these tracks as a digital download to accompany the game, no matter what tier you back!

Downupright is a talented multi-genre producer who has been composing for over 25 years with three successful album kickstarters to date, and we are thrilled to be teamed up with them to offer you their music! You can check out other music they've released on all major streaming platforms of your choice, just search for Downupright and give them a listen. ✨️

Stretch Goals

The fun part of most campaigns! 😉

We're sticking to pretty simple stuff but it will all add value!

First things first! If we can reach $3000 CAD (approximately $2100 USD) then we will expand the existing soundtrack into at least 45 minutes in length album, made to be loopable so it can run throughout your play sessions no matter their duration. Every backer will receive a digital copy. No need to add it on or pay extra!

At $4500 CAD (approximately $3200 USD) we will commission additional custom art from Publishers Choice. This art will go into the book as well as be used to create a beautiful custom deck of playing cards.

Should we make it through these goals, future goals can include additional tracks for the album (making the runtime loop even longer), adventure hooks and NPCs, a play module, and bonus pay for our development team. Is there something else you'd like to see us add? Let us know in the comments! We want what we deliver to include a lot of value to you, so we are happy to include additional content and improvements that you the community want to see.

How It Works

Backerkit is a crowdfunding platform. The campaign runs from March 13th through April 3rd. You may choose a tier, change your tier, and add or subtract add-on items throughout this time. Your card will not be charged for your choices until the campaign ends. So don't be afraid to back early or change your mind on what you want while the campaign is live - if for example you don't get paid until April 1st, you can still back on March 13th and secure your early bird bonus rewards because you will not be charged for your selections until April 3rd. ✨️

After the campaign ends, Backerkit spends the following two weeks processing payments before we receive the funds. During this time, we will be building the pledge manager and preorder store. The pledge manager is where you will confirm your pledge, have another opportunity to add additional items (including other products we have currently available that were not in the campaign such as our other ttrpgs, pins, or ttrpg-adjacent handmade collectibles), pay shipping for any physical products, and manage your digital rewards. The preorder store is for those of you who, for whatever reason, miss the campaign and still want the game, album, or add-ons.

Troubleseekers itself is currently completely written and edited. After the campaign is concluded, we can focus on finishing the remaining music, the remaining art, and getting the layout completed, and then send it off to the printer for physical backers. Should we reach the stretch goals for additional content, our dev team will focus on getting that written and edited to include before layout. But since the game itself is complete, we expect our fulfillment turnaround to be rather fast; everyone should have all rewards in hand well in time for Christmas gifting.

Shipping

Shipping will be charged separately - AFTER THE CAMPAIGN. You will receive a survey from Backerkit approximately 3-4 weeks after the campaign, where you will confirm your pledge, and have a second opportunity to pick up more items such as our other tabletop roleplaying games, dice, handmade collectibles, and art. Approximately 12 weeks after the campaign, shipping will be charged, once the books have physically arrived.

*International backers are responsible for any VAT or other fees.

**Australia backers: we have shipping arrangements with another creator who will combine all pledges in one shipment to Australia, and the local person receiving will then post the individual orders locally, so you can save on costs if you wish to back for physical items.

Cross-Collaboration

Our collaboration partner Toonie has an amazing project you can check out here.

Backers who support both projects will receive additional free content - one from each of us!

Troubleseekers will create an adventure module PDF featuring their hero Valiance, and his chaos-causing sister Duchess.

Calling All Heroes will create limited edition cards featuring a Troubleseeker and an Oligarch in Toonie's art style chosen by their backers... and maybe even one of Dame Fortuna herself.

Who We Are

We're Fool's Moon Entertainment, Inc. (FMEI) - a Canadian company with staff from around the world, dedicated to giving voice to those communities that are maginalised in the ttrpg community. Founded over 20 years ago, FMEI has released a number of games, including Fox Magic, which allows one to explore as Japanese kitsune, Mhar Fantasy, a Medieval alt-Earth, and Keepsakes (formerly released as Widdershins) about lost toys protecting humanity. We are interested in helping indie game designers get their works out into the world and to talk about their work through our streaming platform. We have hosted weekly Actual-Play live-streams in the past and currently sponsor a podcast, The Story Told. In addition to ttrpgs, we sell handmade collectibles and dice, stickers, magnets, patches, enamel pins, figures/buildings/terrain, custom model paint, dice towers and jails, and more.

And the amazing artists on this project:

Publishers Choice - who is providing the cover art and the characters, both from their stock art collection and commission.

And, Lords of Gallipae Games - who has created the fabulous location maps of the Luckmaker Hotel, Oligarch mansion, and Club Babylon.
