Why Vultures? We love birds of all kinds, but vultures have a special place in our hearts. They're also the world's most imperiled family of birds, and some of the most misunderstood.
Vultures keep ecosystems healthy, help prevent disease, and are smart, social, peaceful, fascinating birds, yet they're almost always portrayed as ugly, sinister, and unwanted. The way we talk about and represent wildlife matters, and we think it's time to change the story.
The heart of each of our campaigns, we celebrate the beauty of these amazing birds through art. Every vulture pin is a tiny bit of advocacy: a chance to show someone that these birds are worth loving, worth protecting, and absolutely worth showing off.
These aren't tiny pins that easily disappear into the background. We wanted these birds to be seen. Each design is thoughtfully illustrated to capture something of the personality and beauty of its species, made into a big, detailed statement piece you can proudly wear, display, and show off. At roughly 2–3.5" at their longest dimension, these big birds are meant to get noticed and hopefully spark a few conversations along the way.
If we hit these funding benchmarks (as in total project funds raised), the following designs unlock and become available as choices! *The 5 pin sets come packaged together as a group, in a collectible jewelry box, so substitutions are not allowed. There are 10 and 20 pin tiers where you can choose all the individual pins and make your own set if you like!
Each one-of-a-kind painting is approximately 5-6" x 10-11", painted on 9" x 12" archival watercolor paper and is signed by the artists (except the King Vulture piece, which is larger and painted on 10" x 18" paper). Media: Watercolor/Ink/multi-media.

Thanks to the overwhelming enthusiasm we received for our previous projects, Visionary Vultures 1 - New World, VV2 - Owls & Old World, VV3 - Wolves of Land & Sky, and VV4 - Sentinels of the Sky, we have been able to create over 80 pin designs so far! Use add-ons to create your own custom package tier!
You can add additional items to your pledge by simply choosing the item(s) you would like in the add-on page that comes up after you choose your pledge tier.
More add-ons become available as they unlock as stretch goals! You can check back and add items to your pledge until the project ends.
If you pledge to this campaign, after it closes, you will get a survey by email where you pick applicable item choices (such as what individual designs you want for your pins or prints). The survey also includes an add-on shop available for a short time after the project ends but before items ship, where you can add additional items you may want and enjoy the combined shipping discount.
We will try to get pins made and shipped as quickly as possible and will keep all backers informed of progress through continued project updates by email each month, sharing progress pictures and keeping you in the loop until your items have shipped. You'll also be able to look at this page directly under the update/community tabs near the top to catch up at any time.
Once the project closes, surveys will be emailed to all backers where you can select your pin choices and any optional add-on items you may want. Sticker or print-only pledges will be sent as soon as we have the stickers in hand (usually about a month) after project close. For pins, it takes around 3 months for them all to be made, then 1-2 months in transit to arrive to us. Why does it take so long to make the pins? The process of making, casting, and proofing the initial metal molds and physical color samples on all the designs is a labor intensive process, and then each pin has the colors filled by hand and goes through a process of baking, plating, and polishing that takes time to produce the amazing quality we expect. It also takes time for us to individually sort, grade, check, and pack each pin, so we greatly appreciate your patience and know you'll be very happy with the end result. By pledging to this project you get a great discount and chance at exclusive perks as a thank you for helping us make it possible for these little works of art come to life!
Estimated timeline:
9/1/26 - Campaign launches
9/17/2026 - Campaign ends! After close, cards will be charged for payment. About two weeks after, the final tallies gets released to us so we can send your item selection surveys by email, and the Backerkit store opens for optional add-on pledge purchases.
October/November 2026 - Pledges which include only stickers and/or art prints ship out.
October-December 2026 - Pin creation magic! Monthly updates and progress photos will be sent by email and posted to this page to keep you informed.
January/February 2027- After final individual quality checks by us, pins/jewelry items will ready and will be shipped out to backers. You will get a notification and have a chance to change your address at least 48 hours before items are shipped to be sure everything is current.
February 2027 - Pins are received by backers (Please allow additional time for international shipping).
Shipping is charged after the campaign is over, separate from your pledge amount. Make sure to budget for the estimated shipping cost, listed in each tier!
Shipping Costs: We have done everything we can to keep shipping costs as low as possible; very unfortunately this year USPS got rid of all ounce rate pricing and now charges the same price if a package is one ounce or one pound. The good news is you can ship multiple pins or items for the same rate, so the more you buy the more reasonable shipping costs are; the bad news is we've had to increase the cost of our base shipping because it more than doubled this year for small, lightweight packages. We will keep investigating all options, and if our pricing changes we will share those discounts at shipping time, but right now estimates are accurate as to current prices.
Tracking and Insurance: We do everything we can to make sure your pledges get securely and safely to you! We provide tracking and proof of shipping information via email, standard on all tiers except those which include stickers only of 5 or less. Insurance (covering loss or damage in transit) can be purchased for any tier for a small cost as an optional add-on when selecting your tier. We cannot control what happens with packages once they are in the hands of the postal service, and as a very small business we can not replaced lost/misdelivered packages that are due to USPS error, so if you are worried about potential delivery issues please purchase the shipping insurance option. If you worry about your packages being stolen once delivered (insurance does not cover packages lost or stolen after they are marked as delivered) please contact us about having it held for pickup at your local post office, or use a different, secure location for delivery.
UK special info/VAT: Since we are based in the USA, UK shipping requires pre-paid VAT (currently at 20% rate), which we have to collect and remit on your behalf. This will be collected separately at checkout along with shipping, not with your pledge here. You will get an invoice for the VAT after campaign close when you get your final survey. All UK orders will include a receipt when shipped showing the VAT fee has been pre-paid, you don't pay it again when receiving the package.
International Shipping: With exception of UK VAT, which we collect and remit, buyers are responsible for any customs and import taxes that your country may apply. We charge actual shipping and packaging costs, we apologize that they are so high to many countries. We've tried to keep the cost as low as possible by streamlining packaging and weight and using a discounted global shipping service. You can help buffer costs by combining orders with friends or purchasing a larger number of pins to offset the charges. It's a lot less expensive per pin to send 10 than to send 1. Potential customs and duties charges are the responsibility of the recipient, please check with your local post on procedure if you have any questions.
Note about shipping to Russia: We cannot currently ship any items to Russia (there is a postal blockade), so if you place a pledge from Russia please have an alternative address in another country where you can have the items sent to.
Abandoned Items: After the campaign closes, surveys will be sent by email to the email you have on file with Backerkit. If for some reason you aren't hearing from us, please check your account here or contact us through Backerkit Support. Sometimes a letter is off in your listed email, the email is old/defunct, or it's going to spam (this is especially common if you're using Apple ID to log in). We will hold your items for up to a year after fulfillment begins, but if we get no contact then they will be considered abandoned and will be donated to a charitable organization. Please feel free to check in any time, we do try our best to contact people if they aren't responding, but have had people come back five or more years after a campaign is closed asking about items and we don't always still have rewards still available. We want you to get your items, and we appreciate your understanding!
Risks & Challenges We have run and fulfilled many successful Kickstarter and Backerkit projects before (this is our 11th crowdfunding campaign!) and have a lot of experience making pins and stickers. The process is one we're very familiar with, know what to expect, and how to plan. We guarantee you will get your pins, and will work hard to get them to you as quickly as we can. The biggest challenges and risks right now are potential delays; unpredictable tariffs, global trade issues, constantly changing international shipping rules, and supply chain problems have become more common in the recent years and remain highly unpredictable. We'll be working closely with the various manufacturers involved to try to ensure prompt and safe shipping but as this is a complex global issue, there are many unknowns. There is the chance of delay in fulfillment if any of these external parts of the chain get stalled. We built in considerable extra buffer in time estimates for final delivery to account for this, but it can be impossible to predict anything that can happen. We will keep in contact with all backers as the fulfillment process progresses to keep everyone informed of any issues if they arise.
