BackerKit FAQ

How does BackerKit crowdfunding work?

Crowdfunding is a collaborative way to bring ideas and projects to life. Project creators post their idea for a project, and backers pledge money to make the project possible. Backers get behind the scenes access and backer-only rewards, which can include exclusive products, special pricing, creative input, content, and more.

To become a backer, select a pledge level that features the reward(s) you would like to receive when the project is successfully completed and make your contribution.

All-or-nothing crowdfunding model: The creator sets a funding goal and a deadline to raise funds. If the project does not meet the goal by the deadline, backers credit cards are not charged and no money changes hands.

Crowdfunding projects can happen at various stages of the creative process. Make sure to check the estimated timeline of when rewards will be delivered. Project creators will keep you updated on the progress toward completion and delivery of your rewards.

Backing a crowdfunding campaign is not the same as purchasing an item from a store. When you back a campaign you are supporting the creation of something new. Rewards are almost always delivered, but are not guaranteed.

When will I be charged for my pledge?

Your payment method will not be charged right away. You will be charged for the amount of your pledge when the campaign ends and the project reaches its funding goal. You will not be charged if the campaign does not reach its funding goal.

What happens after the campaign is over?

The Creator will send out a survey that will ask you for more information about your pledge, your shipping information, additional items you may want to add to your pledge, and collect shipping fees if applicable.

The survey will be sent to the email address we have on file with your pledge.

Any additional payment will be charged when you complete your survey and confirm your order.

Project FAQ

What Would a Successful Funding Campaign Result In?

Several goals which enhance the game are waiting to be met. These include but are not limited to: additional artwork, professional editing, a new type of player character ( the Clipper ), new sample adventures written by vtubers, and music composed by vtubers. That's all in addition to the print run. Since the rulebook will be released in as a PDF anyway, there's not really a way for this campaign to fail.

Why do you call it a VStream instead of VTuber, you weirdo?

The answer is a little complicated, and I've expanded on it in the rulebook. In a nutshell, the name vtuber is not quite as universal as it might seem. Different languages each have their own preferred term. The word vtuber which literally is a condensed version of "virtual youtuber" implies a connection to the specific platform of YouTube. VStreamer at one point was the preferred term on Twitch because it invokes no specific platform. The two words do get used as synonyms though, and both work for our purposes.

Does This Game Use D&D Rules?

Nope, the rules that I selected to use are more flexible and far more universal in character creation. This game uses a custom-tuned derivative of C.O.R.E. which is an open source TTRPG ruleset. The original C.O.R.E. rules, created by the hosts of the Dragons Landing podcast, are still available under a Creative Commons license for everyone to look up and use. VStream RPG uses it's own updated CC license, thus enabling the player to take anything from it, change it, and redistribute it as one likes. Enjoy creative freedom on your terms, not mine.

What Game License Does This Use?

Creative Commons 4.0. CC-By. The full license is included inside the rulebook manuscript.

What Dice Do I Need?

One ten-sider will be plenty.

Do We Sell Dice?

No, we do not. We expect that vast majority of gamers who play this game to be doing so online. Custom dice -- while they may be cool -- but this specific game is not the best suited to use them. In order to keep this campaign fast and cheap, we have purposefully chosen to not complicate it with additional physical merch at this time. Dakis however, we could be talked into that.

What is the refund policy?

this project does offer refunds to all backers who purchase the digital products -- for any reason or for no reason at all. Just reach out to the VStreamRPG Bluesky account, and refunds will facilitated. For any backers who purchase physical printings, refunds are available up to the time of shipping. After shipping, refunds will no longer be available.

Who is this guy?

You have have met me under different names. I'm known in gaming circles as the gamemaster, Fyberpunk or simply Zaoboem. I authored an article "The Court of Tarot" for The Rifter Magazine from Palladium Books. My contributions to the Cyberpunk Red gaming space on the fan creation side have been showcased as Creator of the Month in the Discord Server of JonJon the Wise. I created and run the fan discords for both Paleomythic and Shadow Scar game game franchises. (No endorsement implied, just explaining my experience there.) Among vtubers, I admin the clipping channel SktechyClipper. To indie writers, I'm the editor and novel writer Scott Zaboem. As an editor, I've worked on numerous indie and webnovels as well as the indie RPG Irradi8ed. I've even spearheaded a 700 page long collaborative charity book (which never did go to publication). In my first ever Backerkit campaign, I combine all three of these interests.

Will playtest sessions be streamed or recorded?

That's up to the participants. If all players want the session streamed or recorded, that would be fine by me. If they don't want that, it's equally fine with me to not do it. There are currently no plans to stream any such content, but that may be done if there is interest expressed.
