How does BackerKit crowdfunding work?

Crowdfunding is a collaborative way to bring ideas and projects to life. Project creators post their idea for a project, and backers pledge money to make the project possible. Backers get behind the scenes access and backer-only rewards, which can include exclusive products, special pricing, creative input, content, and more.

To become a backer, select a pledge level that features the reward(s) you would like to receive when the project is successfully completed and make your contribution.

All-or-nothing crowdfunding model: The creator sets a funding goal and a deadline to raise funds. If the project does not meet the goal by the deadline, backers credit cards are not charged and no money changes hands.

Crowdfunding projects can happen at various stages of the creative process. Make sure to check the estimated timeline of when rewards will be delivered. Project creators will keep you updated on the progress toward completion and delivery of your rewards.

Backing a crowdfunding campaign is not the same as purchasing an item from a store. When you back a campaign you are supporting the creation of something new. Rewards are almost always delivered, but are not guaranteed.

When will I be charged for my pledge?

Your payment method will not be charged right away. You will be charged for the amount of your pledge when the campaign ends and the project reaches its funding goal. You will not be charged if the campaign does not reach its funding goal.

What happens after the campaign is over?

The Creator will send out a survey that will ask you for more information about your pledge, your shipping information, additional items you may want to add to your pledge, and collect shipping fees if applicable.

The survey will be sent to the email address we have on file with your pledge.

Any additional payment will be charged when you complete your survey and confirm your order.

Who do I contact if I have an issue with my shipment?

Can I order multiple copies?

Yes, you will be able to order multiple copies through BackerKit as an add-on.

Will I get tracking information?

Yes, you should receive tracking information. However, we have had issues in the past with FedEx generating emails. If you have any issues, please email [email protected].

Can I ship to a PO Box?

No, but we ship to military FPOs/APOs.

Once the pledge manager is locked, how do I update my address?

Please email [email protected] and include your BackerKit email address and your updated shipping address.

What is your fulfillment process? Do you ship items based on any particular backer order, etc?

Our fulfillment process varies based on the number of backers. We will process orders in the most efficient way possible. We do not fulfill orders in backer order, alphabetically, or regionally.

Will these items be available through local game stores?

If this campaign is successful, after all of the backers have received their rewards, we intend to sell the game into our normal distribution channels. The items will cost more in retail than they do on BackerKit, and the promo items will not come free with every pledge. Should this campaign be successful, we certainly hope that retailers will want to stock the product! We can certainly fulfill any requests made by a Friendly Local Game Store to help get the product to you. You might miss out on the crowdfunding campaign deal, but for some of our backers that may be a better deal with the ever-increasing shipping costs.

Will I be charged any additional shipping fees upon receiving the game?

Possibly. This is a possibility for all international Backers. We hate it as much as you do, but there may be local laws that require additional fees upon receiving international products.

What if I'm a retailer looking to back?

Hello retailers! You’ll notice that the Defenders of the Realm campaign does not have a specific Retailer Pledge, in keeping with previous GTG campaigns. However, we DO want to ensure that you have plenty of access to Defenders of the Realm for your communities! So, here’s the Not-A-Retailer-Pledge-But-Kind-Of “Pledge.” For the duration of the campaign, if you are a brick and mortar retail store in the United States, you may submit your case quantities for Defenders of the Realm: Legends Edition directly to [email protected] for processing post-campaign. We will get you set up as a direct account and our retailer discount will be applied to the campaign’s reduced SRP while the campaign remains live. You will be charged at the conclusion of the campaign, and we will provide production and shipping updates to our Not-A-Retailer-Pledge-But-Kind-Of “Pledge” mailing list. Your copies will be shipped early alongside campaign backer shipments prior to the regular retail release of the game.
