Project Update: UPDATE 3 ▫️ The One About The Soundtrack

Hello everyone!

We’re exactly one week from campaign-end — and that means it’s time to talk about one of my favorite parts of this project: the Certain Fathoms Soundtrack.

Created by my good friend Colin Whitehurst, this 15-track, 150+ minute ambient album is designed to carry the atmosphere of Certain Fathoms straight to your table (or if you're like me, in the background of a busy working day).

Why a Soundtrack?

Certain Fathoms Soundtrack Album Art

I’ve always found that music and sound bring a session to life. While not necessary, I find that in genre-heavy games like horror, science fiction, or even westerns, the music and sfx can do a lot of the heavy lifting in the immersion department.

For Certain Fathoms, I basically gave Colin a list of words and told him to go crazy. As he's been sending me tracks, I've frankly been blown away. The tracks are layered with faint decaying signals, scratching industrial texture, and instrumentation loops.

All meant to make Welkin Campus feel alive, fragile, and most importantly, evoke that Mothership RPG vibe.

🎸 Preview Track

Today, we’re sharing a 10-minute preview track, titled “cf_guitars.”

And if you wanted to get a behind-the-scenes look at making the thing, we've got that for you too:

That's it for the update. Later this week, we're going to be voting on the 24 Breaches and Anomalies getting added to the book. And then next week, on the last day of the campaign, we're going to do a deep dive on the expansions for Certain Fathoms and what they bring to the table.

Talk then,
