Basics!

In the Wake of the Binding is a rules light game with story prompts that you can play solo or with others to help tell the story of how your vampire reacts to The Binding. In our game you will be provided a series of prompt questions to answer using a deck of regular playing cards to help provide random elements to the story. In the Wake of the Binding is a prequel game for May I Enter: A Vampire Game, which will be crowdfunding in the near future. More information on that will be below.

Prompt Example:

Hearts - A heart card indicates something from your vampire’s life before becoming a vampire.
2 of Hearts: Some scrap of memory is relevant to this time.
3 of Hearts: A place is important and related to your childhood.

Setting

Draw 4 Cards and answer these questions using your card as a guideline

First: Where am I?
Second: Why am I here?
Third: What is blocking me?
Fourth: How can I move forward?

I'm bound, now what happens?

What happened? Why?

In The Wake of the Binding is a game about vampires who have experienced a massive change in who and what they are. At the end of the Trojan War, Helen of Troy has joined forced with other powerful vampires to enact a magical ritual called, The Binding.

Example Bonds that Hold Vampires

The Bond of Light - "You may not walk freely beneath the sun."
Vampires are creatures of shadow, unable to endure sunlight without severe harm. Even the faintest rays burn their flesh. So great is this bond that vampires are compelled to sleep during the day, with the night providing the only time a vampire’s body truly feels awake.

The Bond of Sanctuary - "You may not enter unbidden into mortal dwellings."
Vampires require an invitation to step into any residence where a mortal lives. Public spaces and abandoned buildings are exempt, as are any places where consent is implicit, but the owner or homemaker of any dwelling can banish a vampire forthwith.

The Bond of Consumption - "You may not feed unbidden from the living."
Vampires cannot consume the blood of mortals without their consent. Only that given freely from their mortal kin provides nourishment. The word and will of mortals is such that only this may truly overturn any Bond placed upon the vampire.

What do I get?

In the Wake of the Binding is designed to be a pocket sized game that you can take with you wherever you go. Our goal is to have it be the size of something you can take along with your pack of playing cards. In fact, it is exactly playing card sized. While it is helpful to journal the game, you don't have to and you can easily just talk through the prompts by yourself or with your friends.

By backing this project you will get a PDF copy of In the Wake of the Binding or a pdf and physical copy of the book.

The Next Game

As mentioned, this is a prequel/preview game for a forthcoming game by Allison Cybe and Josh Heath (me) about vampires. May I Enter is a Powered by the Apocalypse game that allows you to dive head first into the world of our vampires. The setting is flexible enough to play in modern times or any time after the Binding. You will play one of our vampires who has to use active consent to build relationships with mortals, explore the ancient ruins of pre-human vampire kind, and politick like in any good vampire game! May I Enter is designed as a hope-punk game, looking at the world we are in and hoping to shape it into a better version of itself into the future.

Backers of this campaign will be kept informed of the progress of May I Enter.
