The inspiration for our Character Journals originally came from a previous Kickstarter project, Dragonhyde Leather Spellbooks. These hand-stitched leather books were cherished by backers for their quality and craftsmanship but were primarily designed for journaling. As we engaged with our community and reflected on the evolving needs of RPG enthusiasts, we recognized a demand for more versatile options, including spaces for spell cards, character sheets, and different types of paper.
Determined to maintain the exceptional quality of the original books while addressing ecological concerns, we decided to transition to a faux leather cover. This material not only reduces environmental impact but also allows for custom engraving, adding a personal touch to each journal.
Consistency was key in our pursuit of excellence. To make sure that each book met our high standards, we partnered with a trusted production team to standardize the manufacturing process. This collaboration resulted in journals that are uniformly crafted, combining the best of artisanal quality and modern efficiency.
To offer variety and cater to diverse tastes, we introduced the journals in three striking colors: blue, red, and green. Additionally, we commissioned talented artist Grace Allyse to create several captivating designs for the cover engravings, allowing backers to choose a journal that truly reflects their unique style.

We're thrilled to share that 1,000 Character Journals have already been purchased and delivered to our location, ensuring a swift and seamless process for our early backers. The only step remaining is to engrave each journal according to your personal preferences. This efficient approach guarantees an almost immediate turnover to shipping, allowing you to enjoy your customized journal without delay.
Here's a detailed timeline of what you can expect:
Project End Date: - As soon as the campaign concludes, we will promptly begin the engraving process based on your chosen designs.
Engraving Period: - The engraving process will take approximately 1-2 weeks to ensure each journal meets our high standards of quality and customization.
Shipping: - Once the engraving is complete, your customized journal will be packaged and shipped to you. Backers can expect to receive their journals starting within a couple of weeks after the project ends. Our ultimate goal is to have up to 1,000 journals in the hands of backers by the holiday season.

1,000 Journals Available immediately: - The above timeline is for the first 1,000 journals pledged. If we receive backers for more than this, we will need to re-order from our partner. Since they already did a 1,000 copy run, all of the molds and setups have already been done, so they will be able to quickly resupply us with more. Still, for backers after the first 1,000 journals, we can expect a delay of about 90 days. I will provide updates with changes in ETA as they become available.

We wanted to test the market for these journals, so we took a select few with us to GenCon. At first people were a little hesitant to take a look a them. Once we explained that they were a new product that we were introducing and that they were designed specifically for role-playing games, people took interest. They liked how they had specific sections for cards and journals and especially that the journals and character sheets could be replaced.
Gen Con 2024
Overall, they were a big success and people really liked the quality and customization available. Several people asked if they could provide their own images to be engraved (YES!). Walking around the hall this year (on one of the few breaks I got), I was surprised at how few dealers had any sort of journals available and those that did almost always had either simply covers that went on exisiting notebooks or plastic faced card sheets that really weren't designed with the gamer in mind.

Each journal weighs approximatley 1 pound (450 grams for overseas backers) plus packing material. Domestic shipping will be approximately $10 for 1-2 journals, and $25 for 5 or more journals.
