Welcome to Mausantara, a Mausritter setting. Mausantara is a blend of mouse scale stories and real world Nusantaran cultures, myths, and adventures starting with the Sundanese culture of West Java. Mausantara and it's as yet unnamed human scale companion series were orginally conceived as a vehicle for researching, preserving, and promoting Sundanese cultural education through play.
The home of Candi Cangkuang, an 8th century shrine to the creator god Batara Guru in the form of Shiva and the central attraction in this first issue. The shrine is guarded by pen-tailed shrews who live in a large pandan tree overhanging the entrancepath to the shrine.
Fernando is one of the most instantly recognisable Mausritter artists, Pandan Island is populated by a swathe of critters from his Monstrosilist series.
The babi ngepet is a type of demon which manifests by contract. The deal is an exchange: the babi ngepet gains temporary possession of the supplicants body in exchange for wealth, transforming the body into a demonic looking boar. The babi ngepet fulfills it's part of the bargain by rubbing its body against homes, which causes the occupant's valuables to fall to the ground outside their homes. These are collected by the possessed once the demon has left their body.
