We’re Kellen and Mo Graves, indie author and illustrator of the ROWAN BLOOD series and more. Herald of the Witch’s Mark is the third in an anticipate 8-book series, with the first two books (Prince of the Sorrows & Lord of Silver Ashes) already available on audio via kindle and apple books. Crowdfunding the third installment has been a long time coming, but we’re excited to finally get it in action!
The HERALD OF THE WITCH'S MARK audiobook will be delivered via email addresses provided by backers at the conclusion of the campaign, and/or via Backerkit's digital download option. It will also be uploaded to the most popular audiobook distributors for sale, including Audible, Apple Books, Google Books, and others should they be requested.
Through their nights spent alone together, Saffron and Cylvan soon learn they have more in common than originally expected; their feelings for one another grow, as Cylvan’s own complicated past comes to oppose them. But Saffron wants to protect him—and in doing so, also protect the other humans he cares for. But even after the first foe is overcome, it quickly becomes clear they are not meant for such an easy happily-ever-after.
You can preview samples of the PRINCE OF THE SORROWS and LORD OF SILVER ASHES audiobooks via their audible pages:
Saffron finally has the one thing he's always wanted: a chance to attend school. To be able to do so alongside Prince Cylvan, even while glamoured as a high fey and pretending not to know one another, Saffron is eager to finally experience the education he's always dreamed of.
But the expectations of being a perfect fey lord are suffocating enough, and are only made more difficult as the unfettered rowan magic in his body runs wild. Outside of the emotionally-charged nosebleeds that come whenever he's overwhelmed, he's able to keep the magic subdued--until one unfortunate confrontation outside of the school, where it manifests in the form of a nightmare he never thought he'd have to witness again. He desperately needs help understanding how to control his new magic, but there's only one person he knows who can offer mentorship: the stranger who appeared in his hospital room after the events on Ostara.
Between acting a high fey, pretending to be courted by Cylvan as strangers, the unexpected difficulties of attending school for the first time, and managing the ancient magic running wild in his veins, Saffron has no choice but to trust Ryder Kyteler who can skip through the veil with ease, and who has been gathering disenfranchised humans to teach them arid magic on the outskirts of Avren for years. Otherwise, the new, violent manifestation of Saffron's magic may hurt the people he cares about most.

We're keeping it simple with our first crowdfunding campaign, and our biggest cost is Christian's fee for the audio recording and production, as well as the limited physical merchs offerings. Ever since we heard his samples while choosing narrator's for Prince of the Sorrows, we knew Christian was the one to narrate this series. He has blown us away with his skill, dedication, and love for his craft!
Previous audiobooks in the series, Prince of the Sorrows, and Lord of Silver Ashes were arranged through the Audible ACX program, with shared royalties between Kellen and Christian. As the Rowan blood books get longer, this arrangement becomes less financially feasible for Christian; we want to ensure he is being fairly compensated for his skill and time, but cannot afford the cost out of pocket. Hence our call to crowdfunding.
For complete transparency, Christian's professional rate is $300 per finished hour. HOWM totals ~160k words, for a total fee of ~$5,500 USD.
We are factoring an additional 5% for tax reasons from the final cost; Backerkit also takes a 5% fee, as well as a payment processing fee that is also averaged at about 5%. Including an estimated $1,500 for printed merch and shipping costs, we're anticipating the final sum of the fundraiser to come out to ~$8,500 USD.
$14,000 USD | ROWAN BLOOD Volume 4: VESSEL OF WOVEN NIGHT Audio Book
Currently our only stretch goal focus, VESSEL OF WOVEN NIGHT, at 190k words, would cost $6300 for Christian to narrate. Including the previously mentioned percentages for taxes and fees, we would be able to fund the volume 4 audiobook at $14,000 USD! Should this stretch goal fund, all backers at the $15+ donation tier will receive a copy of the VOWN audiobook subsequent from HOWM, once it is finished production, as well as other listed HOWM reward tiers.
Should the campaign exceed the $14,000 VOWN stretch goal, additional stretch goals will be considered and possibly implemented, including funding set-aside for future Rowan Blood audiobooks, funding for other Kellen Graves audiobooks, narrated bonus scenes, etc.
End of February - Campaign Launch End of March - Funding secured March - Christian starts recording ~ April - Funding received ~ April - Physical Rewards Ordered ~ April - Audio Editing ~ April-May - Final review ~ April-May - HOWM Audiobook Release ~ May-June - Audiobook Rewards fulfillment
(if stretch goal funded) VOWN timeline will be announced as determined!
Kellen Graves is the author of the ongoing Rowan Blood series (PRINCE OF THE SORROWS, LORD OF SILVER ASHES, HERALD OF THE WITCH'S MARK, VESSEL OF WOVEN NIGHT), including one standalone spinoff (THE FOX AND THE DRYAD), and an additional standalone (A BONE IN HIS TEETH) outside of the Rowan Blood series.
M.E. Morgan is an illustrator currently living in the Northwest United States with their spouse and two cats. They love art history, fashion, horror, folklore, myth, fantasy, & romance; especially in any combination! When not drawing, they're usually playing games, watching horror movies, working on sewing projects, or haunting their local park.
Christian Leatherman(via Tantor narrator profile) As a full-time audiobook narrator, Christian Leatherman has been fortunate enough to perform in many genres—fantasy, romance, sci-fi, nonfiction, and mystery/thriller—to bring life to complex worlds and characters ranging from a Southern android assistant to an early twentieth-century kid from Brooklyn who ran away from home. He never would have guessed that his previous life as a forensic science student and a beer/malt biologist might have prepared him with the medical and forensic jargon all too common in police-procedural thrillers and dense nonfiction but, here we are!
Although this is the first Kickstarter for the Graves household, Kellen and Mo have run multiple pre-order campaigns for books and merchandise through their Etsy shop and fulfilled almost 700 shop orders since 2022! They have also successfully fulfilled monthly physical ko-fi rewards in the form of exclusive art postcards since July 2023. They're both familiar with the production, fulfillment and logistics of pre-orders, products, books, and audiobooks. To avoid any possible overwhelm, they are also intentionally keeping physical offerings limited for this campaign to ensure as much attention as possible can be paid to the main digital rewards offered.
Risks include possible timeline delays, print rewards shipping delays, possible download issues, and so on, but said issues should all be minor and manageable.
