Intro

Hello! 👋

I'm Jess aka Loadofolbobbins, textile artist and illustrator with a love of all things nature! I recently embarked on a journey into the surprisingly colourful world of moths and can't wait to turn these beauties into stickers!

So welcome to my Marvellous Moths sticker campaign! I've previously funded 6 Kickstarter projects but this will be my first adventure with Backerkit. Here's some of my previous work:

a montage of three photos from left to right they show a flat lay of vibrant, colourful illustration prints of birds from around the world, a swooping barn owl sticker on a black sketchbook cover and a series of folded and packaged tea towels with bird illustrations on them.

The Stickers

Initially the goal is to create a set of six stickers, showcasing the diverse markings and quite frankly kick ass colours of moths! The complete collection consists of 23 different moth species which I illustrated in May as part of the #MothMay challenge I created. More of these designs will be stretch goals that will hopefully unlock as the campaign progresses. But first let's introduce you to the original fluttery gang of six.....

All backers of this campaign will also receive a free sticker, of the rather delightful Chrysoclistra Linnella moth, as a thank you for helping get me to my funding goal!

CROSS-COLLAB FREEBIE

a holographic sticker mock up against a blue notebook. The sticker is of a magnifying glass with a blue handle and withing the glass of it there is close up black outline drawings of moth wing scales. The background of the scales drawing is holographic.

Inspired by the fabulous Kathryn Garner's cell paintings which she's turning into wonderful magnets in her BackerKit campaign, I've created a special holographic sticker as part of our cross-collaboration. The sticker shows a magnifying glass looking at the close up detail of a moths wings, they're made up of hundreds of tiny scales!

To qualify for this freebie all you have to do is back both my campaign and her Drawn to Cells? Curious Magnets campaign! Check out her campaign by clicking the image below!

a series of 5 cell biology theme magnets who each show images of paintings by Kathryn Garner of cells. This is to advertise Drawn to Cells? Curious Magnets backerkit campaign.

Add ons

text heading that says add ons

There are a few add ons available as part of this campaign, that you can add to your pledge rewards. The first is exclusively for backers of the 6 stickers tier, who can choose to add on more stickers if they wish at the reduced price of £2.50 instead of the usual £3. This is a great option if we manage to unlock a few stretch goals and you'd love to add more designs to your collection.

Having dipped my toe into moth illustration a little before, I also have a couple of wooden lapel pins available as add ons and for a reduced price of £10 instead of the usual £12 I sell them for in my shop.

photo on the left shows a laser cut wooden lapel pin of a jersey tiger moth mounted on a backing card covered in ivy illustrations. The moth has almost zebra like striped markings with it's wings folded behind it. The photo of the right shows a wooden laser cut lapel pin of a Swallowtail moth also mounted on a backing card. The moth has delicate yellow colouring with thin vibrant orange stripes.

I've also created a new add-on to get this illustration as an A4 print at a special campaign price of £13 instead of the usual £15.

An A4 illustration print by Loadofolbobbins of a group of 23 moths of different colourful species flying and perching around a lit light bulb, surrounded by foliage. The foliage and light bulb are all drawn in black. Does not include frame.

A4 Print

  • Size A4, 21 cm x 29.7 cm (approx 8.3" x 11.7")  includes a border for framing
  • Printed on 250 gsm paper
  • Does not come with frame or mount
  • Special campaign pricing discount normal price £15
  • Signed and dated by me.

The above print is now also available as a 1000 piece jigsaw add-on, which comes with an A4 reference poster included. This add-on is also available as an individual reward tier. If the campaign doesn't reach the £1550 stretch goal, to fund the jigsaw manufacturing, any pledges including a jigsaw will be given a partial refund.
A 1000 piece jigsaw measuring 66cm x 50cm includes A4 poster. It's of an illustration by loadofolbobbins of a group of 23 moths of different colourful species flying and perching around a lit light bulb, surrounded by foliage. The foliage and light bulb are all drawn in black, in the top left is a section of trailing ivy which leads to two thin branches, on of which has a Kentish Glory moth clinging to it. The light bulb is hanging in the centre of the image from a woven single light cord and the edison style bulbs filament is glowing. In the bottom right corner of the image is a large leaf with an equally large female emperor moth perched on it, just above this is a series of tall grasses, one of which has a scarlet tiger moth clinging to it. There is also a small clump of grass in the bottom left corner of the image which very slightly obscure a large emerald moth beneath. The other moths include a mint moth, peppered moth, ethmia pusiela, scarce forester moth, barred hook-tip moth, ruby tiger moth, brimstone moth, mother shipton moth, blood-vein moth, cinnabar moth, schreckensteinia festaliella, large fruit tree tortix moth, elephant hawk moth, buff ermine, red underwing moth, hummingbird hawk moth, hypercallia citrinilis, chrysoclistra linnella and the herald moth. All of these are either perched facing or flying around the light bulb.

🧬 Super League of Science

This project is part of the Super League of Science, a curated group of science-inspired crowdfunding campaigns all launching together on BackerKit.

Every project in the League explores science in its own way — through art, storytelling, collectibles, games, zines, apparel, and more. Some dive into physics or space, others into biology, chemistry, tech, or science history. All of them celebrate curiosity and imagination.

My project: A look at the wonderful world of moths with a series of vibrant stickers taking inspiration from their diverse markings.

Be sure to check out the rest of the League — you might discover something surprising.

Timeline

text heading that says timeline

Late July - Campaign launches
End of August - Campaign ends
September - Surveys sent out, rewards get made and are sent out.

Surveys will go out roughly two weeks after the campaign closes. BackerKit has a short holding period before surveys can be locked and finalized.

Thankfully production of the stickers is quite speedy so turn around between receiving survey responses and ordering them should be quite quick. So please do make sure to fill in your surveys ASAP so we can all start enjoying our moth stickers as soon as possible!

How it works

text heading that says how it works

When you back this project you can edit your pledge throughout the campaign, funds will not be taken until the campaign ends.

Surveys will be sent to backers when the campaign ends, which is where you'll be able to pick which sticker designs you would like. Once funds are released, I will be using the money raised to fund the cost of production and shipping of backer rewards.
