I know it hasn't quite been a month yet, but it's time for an update: Surveys Are Coming. 5% of backers should receive their survey shortly, and everyone else should see it tomorrow sometime.
Jamie and I have been chipping away at the book. The text has been edited once and laid out, so there is just one more round of copy edits and proofreading left before it is finalized. Jamie has been working on the illustrations and maps. Here's an updated take on the calcabrina:
A note on shipping:
Because of the expected timing for the fulfillment of this book, I've decided to offer something I haven't done before (but I know other creators sometimes do): in person reward pickup at PAX Unplugged! I have had a booth at PAXU in Philadelphia for the last few years, and I will be back there this December. If you are planning on going, you may have the chance to pick up your rewards in person and skip the shipping charges.
This is a new thing for me, and there are lots of reasons why it might not work out, so you will still be asked to enter your credit card information when you fill out the survey. I'll be in touch with backers that choose this option once we get closer to the convention date to make sure we can coordinate this.
That's all for now. I'll be checking in again later in July, hopefully with news that the book is complete and the proofing process has begun with the printer.
I'd like to start with a huge Thank You! to everyone that backed and spread the word about Out of the Iron Labyrinth. The inaugural OSE Month was a fantastic event, and I am so excited to add my vision of Carcerus to your OSE games.
The Plan
Progress has been steady over here. The book is written and the text is laid out, so while Jamie is working on art, I have been pulling together the Asset Pack and the pledge manager. Here is timeline as it stands now:
July: I'll send out the BackerKit Pledge Manager survey
August: the book is finalized, and I go through proofing with the printer
November: the books are printed and delivered, and I lock the surveys and charge for shipping
December: books are shipped to backers!
But wait, you say, what about digital fulfillment? Once I finalize the files with the printer, I will dive into creating the digital edition. Could I just send out the print-ready PDF? Yes. But wouldn't it be better if there were things like hyperlinks and not references to "the inside back cover"? I think yes. As such, I expect digital fulfillment to occur in September. Digital add-ons will fulfill closer to the shipping date, probably in November.
That's all for now! You can expect monthly updates as we go through the production process.
We've got a quick late-mid-campaign update for everyone. I've finalized the text for the adventure and wrapped up the layout while Jamie has been working on illustrations. Here's Yllthrax the corrupted dragon with a couple of his cultists, one of the main NPCs of the adventure:
Everything is looking good to be able to get these books finalized quickly and off to the printer so you can dive into Carcerus and try to escape the Iron Labyrinth!
