Glad to still be here making incredible comics with amazing talent from the LGBTQIA+ community (and a few cishet diversity hires thrown in there). With most of the art in, and lettering underway by the incredible Jodie Troutman, we are excited to get this to our goal so everyone can read this great collection of horror shorts.
Take care of yourselves, it's certainly been something out there...
It's been about a year since we fulfilled When I Was Young. I have brought the book all over the US and Canada for conventions, and had so many amazing conversations about the importance of authentic storytelling in these troubled times. I wouldn't have been able to accomplish any of it without your support!
Thank you again for everything!
What's Next?
FUNeral Home
I have a new book that just launched on Kickstarter, it's a 30 page one-shot comic about chosen family, processing grief, and sapphic assassins called FUNeral Home. It's deeply inspired by anime and manga, and it really highlights how much fun you can have on the comic page.
This project was created with my collaborator and friend Fell Hound, and we are beyond excited to get it out into the world.
The end of the line! Finished shipping books out today after receiving the missing glitter covers!
If you don't have tracking, or your order doesn't appear to have shipped, then you probably have not filled out your survey, or there was an issue with payment (or you're Jeff from East Side Mags, in which case I will be hand delivering your books soon, my friend).
Here's a survey recovery link in case you think maybe you missed filling out the survey: https://when-i-was-young-comic.backerkit.com/
What happens now? I have a pile of books to donate to libraries and youth programs, and I will settle up all the invoicing for shipping charges, check the numbers, then make a big donation to Trevor Project with everything that I have left from the campaign! Really happy that we'll be able to make these donations, thank you again for your support. Will post a final closing update once the donation has been made, then I will be in the wind.
I do have some extra books from the print run, and those will soon be listed on my website for sale, with profits continuing to be donated to Trevor Project.
Thanks for your patience while the printer got the missing glitter covers reprinted, they are shipping to me tomorrow! I expect to have them in hand by mid next week and will resume shipping backer orders ASAP.
We are so close to being done with fulfillment, and I truly cannot wait for everyone to get their books.
Thanks again for your support, Michele
Some more things to check out:
My Neighbor Necromancer is a dark YA fantasy about a girl named Jessie who stumbles into the wild world of necromancy and learns how the denial and mistreatment of Death can do more harm than good.
We shipped another big batch of orders over the weekend! If you backed with an art print, you will be receiving 2 separate packages, we put the prints in poster tubes for safest transit.
***Glitter Cover Update*** - when we received the books, we were missing MANY copies of the glitter cover. The printer attempted to locate them unsuccessfully, so they are reprinting, and will send them to me ASAP... but that means there are about 50 backers who ordered a glitter cover who will unfortunately have to wait a bit longer. I don't have an exact timeline yet, hoping it will be less than a couple of weeks, will let you know as soon as I know!
The rest of the orders that do not have a glitter copy will hopefully be shipped by next weekend (sept 7-8).
Thanks for your patience while I work through all of this! Can't wait for everyone to have their books. -Michele
