BackerKit FAQ

How does BackerKit crowdfunding work?

Crowdfunding is a collaborative way to bring ideas and projects to life. Project creators post their idea for a project, and backers pledge money to make the project possible. Backers get behind the scenes access and backer-only rewards, which can include exclusive products, special pricing, creative input, content, and more.

To become a backer, select a pledge level that features the reward(s) you would like to receive when the project is successfully completed and make your contribution.

All-or-nothing crowdfunding model: The creator sets a funding goal and a deadline to raise funds. If the project does not meet the goal by the deadline, backers credit cards are not charged and no money changes hands.

Crowdfunding projects can happen at various stages of the creative process. Make sure to check the estimated timeline of when rewards will be delivered. Project creators will keep you updated on the progress toward completion and delivery of your rewards.

Backing a crowdfunding campaign is not the same as purchasing an item from a store. When you back a campaign you are supporting the creation of something new. Rewards are almost always delivered, but are not guaranteed.

When will I be charged for my pledge?

Your payment method will not be charged right away. You will be charged for the amount of your pledge when the campaign ends and the project reaches its funding goal. You will not be charged if the campaign does not reach its funding goal.

What happens after the campaign is over?

The Creator will send out a survey that will ask you for more information about your pledge, your shipping information, additional items you may want to add to your pledge, and collect shipping fees if applicable.

The survey will be sent to the email address we have on file with your pledge.

Any additional payment will be charged when you complete your survey and confirm your order.

Project FAQ

I already have the Black Cube. How is Indigo different?

Invisible Sun: Indigo is not a new edition of Invisible Sun. It does not include any content that isn't in the Black Cube. It's simply a new format for the game. It's a less deluxe version of the game than the Black Cube, omitting physical elements like the Testament of Suns (available now as an add-on) but delivering the full essence of the game, and all its content, to new players. Other differences include: • The corebooks are softcover • The Path of Suns is a playmat, rather than a game board • Some items have been reformatted to more conventional dimensions (the character tomes, for example, are now compatible with standard printer paper) Why these changes? The Black Cube is an expensive product. It's too expensive for us to keep it in print; we've only been able to produce it in limited runs that sell out fairly quickly. And it's too expensive for many gamers to purchase, despite its incredible value relative to its price. It's a wonderful game that we're very proud of, but its physical complexity limits its audience. Indigo opens Invisible Sun to a wider audience by offering all the content in a simpler presentation. It includes all of the books and cards, along with the other elements necessary for play. If you already have the Black Cube, you do not need Invisible Sun: Indigo. If you don't, Indigo is your doorway into the Actuality!

How does the Discord bot work?

If you use Discord to communicate with your gaming group, you'll find it's wonderful for Development Mode play in Invisible Sun. The bot facilitates that by giving you access to the Sooth Deck anywhere you can access Discord. It's easy to install and use: • You must be an administrator for the Discord server. • Installing the bot takes only a minute. You don't need to be an Discord expert; it just takes a couple of clicks. • Once it's installed, simply type /sooth in your game's channel, and it will randomly draw a Sooth card and display it there in the channel. You can click through for the card's text and details.

I don't live in the US. Can I get Invisible Sun without paying for tariffs?

Our products are shipped to backers from three fulfillment centers: our US warehouse and partners in the UK and Australia. Generally, our products are shipped directly to those locations from the factory—so if they're manufactured outside the US, items headed to the UK/EU and Australia are not subject to US tariffs. However, to reduce the impact of tariffs, Invisible Sun: Indigo will likely be assembled in the United States with components made in a variety of locations. (See the campaign page for more details.) Because of this, Indigo will not have a different price in different territories. Rest assured, however, that we are doing everything possible to minimize the impact tariffs—and should tariffs be reduced or rescinded before production of Invisible Sun completes, we will give you back some of that cost in the form of MCG store credit. (Again, see the What About Tariffs section on the main page for more info.)

Roll20 and Alchemy are fine, but what about MY favorite VTT?

Setting up full support for an RPG--particularly a game with a lot of mechanical subsystems and components--is a resource-intensive undertaking. At this point, we have the capability to support a limited number of platforms. We're looking into more options, though, including Foundry, and maybe it's something we can explore through this campaign!
