Project FAQ
Moonbeam will be free to use after our alpha and beta phases are concluded. By supporting Moonbeam in this BackerKit campaign, you can get alpha or beta access and help shape the platform's features!
We expect to begin our alpha phase in Q4 2024 and our beta phase in Q1 2025. To be transparent, if we receive abundant support from the community during this BackerKit and then receive follow-up funding, these timelines will likely be expedited. We have no idea what to expect from this BacakerKit campaign, so we decided to project these timelines based on our current on-hand funding.
Moonbeam sells packs of moonstones. When you buy moonstones, Moonbeam makes a small margin from the sale of those moonstones. This means the more moonstones people buy, the more Moonbeam and creators make! We want to ensure our success is tied to the success of our creators and community. We believe this is fair and transparent for all involved.
Pyxis is our proprietary moderation technology. Initially, Realm owners will use Pyxis to establish moderation settings within their Realm. There is a baseline moderation standard for Pyxis platform-wide, but moderators make decisions regarding content in their Realm. This ensures Pyxis best meets the needs of each Realm and their unique communities. Once we achieve full-scale on Moonbeam and validate Pyxis at the Realm level, we plan to put Pyxis in the hands of individuals so you can further curate your experience on Moonbeam as you best see fit.
Pyxis is an LLM used to identify, recognize, and understand the sentiment and nuances of human language. It is a tool to keep you safe online. We fully agree with BackerKit's stance on new technologies. Pyxis is not, nor will it ever be, a tool that generates artwork, imagery, videos, etc. Moonbeam is made for humans. We see new technology, such as Pyxis, as a tool to improve our lives, not the other way around. Period.
Moonbeam does not have an exclusivity clause. We believe all creators should stream and simulcast on as many platforms as possible. Our thesis is simple: if we need to have an exclusivity clause to keep creators and their communities on Moonbeam, then we've failed in our mission. That's why we'll never have one.
Moonbeam simplifies earning with moonstones, virtual goods anyone can buy on our platform. For every moonstone a fan gives a creator, the creator earn $0.01. For instance, if a fan gives a creator 100 moonstones, the creator earns $1. This ensures that creators keep 100% of what they’re given with no hidden fees or gimmicks. So, how does Moonbeam make money? Moonbeam makes money by selling packs of moonstones at various prices, incentivizing bulk purchases for greater value. For example, you can buy 750 moonstones for $9.99 or 4,250 moonstones for $49.99. You can use moonstones for subscriptions, donations, tips, merchandise sales, and more. This means creators always receive 100% of their earnings, making Moonbeam one of the only platforms where creators can sell their merchandise without paying any fees or cuts to the platform.
Running a live streaming platform comes with high costs, and we believe in transparency. To ensure sustainability while providing significant benefits to you, we’ve developed Moonbeam+. Moonbeam+ is an optional monthly subscription with platform-wide perks, including: - Ad-Free Viewing: Enjoy an uninterrupted, ad-free experience across Moonbeam. - Increased Ad Revenue for Creators: Moonbeam pays creators ad revenue they would have earned when you skip an ad, plus a bonus. With Moonbeam+ you don’t have to watch ads, and creators earn more! - Increased Earnings for Creators: Creators receive a 5% payout bonus on any moonstones they earn. Yes, this means creators can earn 105%! - Early Features: Get early access to experimental features. - Additional Benefits: Enjoy a host of other exclusive perks. The number of months of Moonbeam+ you receive varies by reward tier. More importantly, those months don’t start to count down until Moonbeam enters our full launch phase—which means you’ll have these perks for the entire alpha and beta phases before the additional months kick in!
BackerKit FAQ
BackerKit Crowdfunding is an all-or-nothing collaborative funding platform. Creators share their project ideas and set a funding goal with a deadline. Backers pledge money to help make the project possible.
If the project meets its goal by the deadline, pledges are charged and the creator moves forward. If it doesn’t, no one is charged.
Backers often receive special rewards for their support, such as:
- Exclusive products
- Bonus rewards for backing related projects
- Discount pricing
- Behind-the-scenes updates
- Creative input opportunities
Pledging in crowdfunding is a commitment to support the creation of a new product or project. Unlike a traditional purchase, you're not buying an item that already exists. Instead, your contribution helps bring a creative idea to life, and in return, you typically receive rewards (such as the product itself) as a thank you for your early support.
- Select a pledge level with the reward(s) you would like to receive
- Select any add-ons
- Confirm your pledge!
- You are charged only if the campaign meets its funding goal.
- Charges happen when the campaign ends, not when you pledge.
The creator will send you a survey to:
- Ask you for more information about your rewards (selecting options, etc)
- Collect shipping information
- Offer additional items you may want to add to your pledge
- Collect shipping fees (if applicable)
The survey will be sent to the email address we have on file with your pledge. Additional payments are charged when you complete the survey.
Only the project creator and the BackerKit Support Team can see your pledge and contact information. Other backers and the public cannot see your individual pledge amount or personal details.
You can change or adjust your pledge level and add-ons before the campaign ends. After the project concludes, cancellations or changes are at the creator's discretion and may depend on what stage the project is in.
Overtime Mode extends your campaign past its original end time to give backers a final chance to make their pledge. It will add an additional 10 minutes past the end time as long as pledges keep coming in. The campaign will end when there is a 10-minute period without any new pledges.
