Play as both familiar and never before witnessed ancestries and lineages from across East Asian folktales! With three prepared, we have many more in the wings just waiting to be unlocked in our stretch goals.

Kappas are cucumber-loving guardians of the Kyougen Federation's rivers and lakes. Depending on climates, kappas evolved differently to the degree their heritages might appear unrecognizably different. River kappa may appear short and stout of body, mountains kappa might be tall with wings while those in lands closer to Yomi have horns and claws. They're always found in the outskirts of Kyougen cities, content to live amongst nature.

Huodou are the desertfolk of Long Xin. They appear similar to werewolves with the powers to transform into black canine forms and consume fire. Their society emphasizes pragmatism which contributes to their openness to accept new technologies and developments for survival's sake. They've maintained their independence through multiple dynasties using their desert homes and tunnel systems as natural fortresses.

Born from a fateful happenstance, usually through an atypical possession or a trick of destiny, Spiritborns are naturally undead. Though their existences begin frail, they awaken to tremendous spiritual might that materializes physically, supporting any weakened internal or external organs. Spiritborns are highly respected and feared in equal parts in Dangukese society for their innate abilities to commune with or exorcise the dead. As half-ghosts, they exist in the threshold between the living and the dead, eventually requiring a unique solution to the question of how to properly fit in with their surroundings.

Bards in the College of Mourning (5e) or the Lamentation Muse (PF2e) compose elegies that both lament the dead and give them final vigor for one last hurrah. Their songs quite literally awaken the grave and kindle long lost feelings in the hearts of the undead.

The Circle of Entropy believes immortality is a sham at best and unnatural stagnation at worst. Despite conceptions that they worship death and destruction, druids of entropy manipulate the collapse of energy to protect existing cycles of nature.

Monks of the Way of Transcendence (5e), or Blooming Ascendants (PF2e), are cultivators who change themselves from the inside, shedding their old bodies like cocoons into stronger, more beautiful vessels. Their training gives them the power to evolve and change to their liking at a whim, gaining new resistances to disease, poison, or the elements.

Virulent Soul (5e) sorcerers, or the Virulent Bloodline (Pf2e), are those who were either gifted by a deity of nature or murder or had their sorcerous origin tainted by a potent toxin. They're living examples that curses don't simply stop at claiming one life.

When a shard of... something splits off, it yearns to become whole, even if it must begin anew from a separate vessel. Warlocks of the Corruption Patron (5e) and Summoners of the Corruption Eidolon (PF2e) become hosts for these shadows of ancient evil, eagerly selling bits of themselves for greater power.

From the creators of Undying Corruption, The Black Market Guide to Immortality seeks to provide both players and GM characters with the choices to answer this question. The "author", Shin Seul-ki, has stolen magical secrets from a failed cultish scheme to seize godhood and inscribed them all to aid cultivators across the world seize eternal life. We offer to you a 250+ page sourcebook filled with magical secrets to achieve divinity and beyond in your 5e and Pathfinder 2e adventures.

In this book, you'll find:

  • Worldbuilding expanding across East Asian mythologies
  • 5 new species/ancestries based on mythologies and folktales from China, Japan, and Korea
  • 13 new subclasses for each existing class plus our homebrew Tactician class, with Pathfinder 2e conversions
  • A bestiary of 50+ new monsters from across East Asia
  • 20+ new legendary items and artifacts from East Asian mythologies
  • An NPC Guide with plot hooks, allies, and villains to drive your campaigns' stories
  • A progression system built around story-driven milestones that enable your characters to achieve immortality

With your help, we can:

  • Do a print run of Undying Corruption for BOTH 5e and PF2e!
  • Expand our book with more art by a team of incredible artists
  • Make this book the best it can possibly be with even more detailed worldbuilding surrounding East Asian folktales, history, and mythologies
  • Start work on more wonderful projects featuring the Iseung region!

With your help, we can also self-publish a digital NPC Guide, an artbook, and an original soundtrack inspired by our world!

"No more cramming your soul into a tiny box or guzzling down mercury (unless, of course, that's your thing). For any enterprising seeker of eternity, I, Shin Seul-ki, always have a better way."

Edit

While cultivators aspire for the ultimate goal of immortality, the means of reaching it are as numerous as the stars. Through a lifetime of accruing virtuous merit, a diligent cultivator can reach eternal life as a heavenly ascendent. Others who lack the patience experiment with more creative means, such as practicing necromancy, creating spare bodies, altering one’s own name in the netherealm’s records, or achieving a more conceptual form as a living rumor. Tiers of immortality have thus been created to categorize immortals based on how far removed they’ve become from their base state of mortality.

For players, we offer a system of progression akin to a separate leveling system that tracks their progression toward immortality or divinity. For GMs, we offer templates to modify creatures and NPCs with abilities and powers designed to intensify ordinary challenges.

By your hand, you will challenge just how infinite your foe’s eternal life really is.

Our bestiary boasts over 100+ supernatural beings of folktales from across East Asia. Some are benevolent toward the world of man while others, born from man’s own malice, harbor wicked designs. Priding themselves in their own power or fearing the gaze of others, they walk a solitary road while some form factions to accomplish what one alone can't.

In addition, our NPC Guide complements our bestiary, adding important characters that drive the direction of the world into the mix. Between the two, there's no shortage of plot hooks to be found in The Black Market Guide!

We invite you to challenge your table with our compilation of the region’s yaoguai, yogye, and yokai.

"You might be wondering, 'Why a bestiary'? The first step to live forever is... don't get killed! With my comprehensive list of monsters, mundane and mythic, you'll be invincible*!" *Note, the author is not liable for deaths by monster attacks from assumed invincibility. We do not encourage charging headlong into battle thinking 'you've got this'.

Funding will help us finish the book. We intend to finish around sometime 2026 Q3 or Q4. We will let everyone know at what stage we're at in terms of development. People will receive their digital copies, which will be prefaced with playtest copies to receive feedback from backers before sending a final version out to print.

From there, printing all books should take about 1 month. Given the unpredictability in shipping, we can't guarantee the amount of time it will take for books to reach their respective fulfillment companies, but people should receive them by 2027 Q1 or Q2. We will inform everyone per month every step of the way how far we are into this goal and share our current progress.

Extra funds that we make through this crowdfunding campaign will also go to finishing the 5e Korean translation and PF2e version of our 600+ page adventure book, Undying Corruption and generally more projects involving the Iseung region. We're also very eager to do a new print run for Undying Corruption INCLUDING the PF2e versions as well!

Digital fulfillment will be handled by DriveThruRPG (account not required, but we felt if you already had a library, this would be convenient)

  • In the interest of avoiding confusion further into the campaign, shipping fees will be collected alongside pledges at the start of pledge management.

  • In order to avoid any uncertainties with regards to tariffs, most international shipments will be handled from our distributors’ UK hub.

  • By finalizing your pledge before the last address confirmation, you agree to our shipping terms. Ownership and risk of the package transfer to you upon its handover to the carrier. You are responsible for any import duties or taxes. Please ensure your delivery information is accurate.

Edit
  • By pledging to our project, you understand that the final product may vary in some aspects from what is shown during the campaign. We are dedicated to delivering high-quality items, but changes in design, size, or content may occur.

  • Refunds are available up to 7 days from the end of the campaign. Unfortunately, we cannot offer refunds on collected pledges after that date.

  • Fulfillment is planned for Q4 2026, but this is subject to change. Monthly updates will keep you informed of any adjustments.

  • By pledging you also agree to the estimated pricing for shipping and taxes provided above.
