My mother was a first generation Vietnamese American, the anchor baby for her family. She had a strained relationship with her mother and father. Growing up she had a lot of shame with her birth name and also wanting to cast aside our heritage for a more American life style due to bullying. I feel like generational trauma is deep and we also had a strained relationship for a long time till I made my own way. Now just like you and your parents my mom had come to a understanding, telling our side of our feelings which is a very hard thing to do in house holds that just work to provide but not actually verbally say I love you and ECT like most American family dynamics are. When I watched your trailer it made me cry because it reminded me a lot of my own family and also my own pursuit in art. I know I can't donate much but I wanted to let you know your story is impactful and meaningful and I'm so happy you kept pushing to create! This is a family legacy now and it is beautiful ❤️
Wishing everyone working on this project all the best, ALWAYS! Please keep it up, many people will wait patiently to see this through with everyone! Thank-you again for creating this and be willing to share so much... It really helped seeing the posts on social media about this or else I never would've pledged to help. I'm South East Asian, and I really resonated and related so much to what's being portrayed (also as an amateur artist, and someone who is queer especially). I hope this can help bring out more wonderful people to share their own stories to be heard and seen as well! Thank-you, and keep going! ❤️
My family’s story is quite similar, as my parents were boat people who fled Vietnam after the war. I started my life in a refugee camp in Hong Kong before my parents, my older sister, and I made our way to France, where we settled and where I grew up. Growing up in a bicultural environment, with parents affected by the trauma of war and cultural differences, was not easy. I feel that the experiences of second-generation people often echo one another, even across borders. I’m really looking forward to seeing the result of your work. So, bonne chance !
Just throwing it out there. Is the title set in stone?
Love this project! Had a private question about a pledge and sent an email to [email protected] because that's the email on the website https://www.parloushouse.com/, but haven't gotten a reply yet. Where should we direct our private questions?
