Playing Cards featuring the art of Dave Stevens!

I am so excited to announce this set of decks based on Dave Stevens' Rocketeer. These decks feature Dave's original art from the first issues ever made of his great comic book dieselpunk hero. Some of you might know me from my graphic novel series, The Adventures of the 19XX. But my dream for many years has been to work on this project. In addition to my comic book series I have a busy life as a graphic designer. My creative heroes range from artists like Dave Stevens and William Stout to graphic artists like Chip Kidd and Chris Ware. I have been lucky enough to work on a Rocketeer statue from Mondo and plenty of other licensed projects. But this is my dream project and I spent a lot of time on my own getting it to see the light of day!

This is my second deck of cards produced. You could look up the Flight Deck here on Kickstarter to learn about my first deck which went really well! And if you have that deck you know what kind of quality to expect here!
These decks were printed by Expert Playing Cards and are very high quality.

Thanks to the Rocketeer Trust I was able to put together this project of premium produced playing cards. That means a deck that is not only well designed but produced by a factory that has created some of the greatest card decks in the last few years. Tuck boxes are embossed and have metal foil applied.
Each deck features closeup views of Dave Steven's original art. I wanted to really shine a light on his linework and incredible attention to detail. Some cards will show his art within the setting of a comic book page to help remind everyone where these pieces came from. You may have met the Rocketeer in the epic Disney movie that came out in the 1990s, you may have been introduced to him through the great IDW comics that have been carrying on Dave's legacy, or maybe you were lucky enough to meet Dave in Person in the late 90s at San Diego Comic con when he was just an Independent comic artist trying to build his legacy.
Wherever you first met the Rocketeer, hopefully you will see some of the magic from those first encounters within the cards of these decks!
GILDED DECKS

About Dave
Dave Stevens began his comics career assisting the legendary Russ Manning on his Tarzan newspaper strip. He went on to become a legend in his own right after creating the instantly classic character, The Rocketeer. You can see the incredible details of those original 1982 Rocketeer pages here on these playing cards. His hero went on to star in an unforgettable film, new comics from IDW, an animated series, action figures and more! Dave Stevens passed away in 2008 but his undeniable talent leaves a mark on everyone who sees it. His work on those pages and many other projects will live on and inspire generations to come!
About Paul
Paul Roman Martinez is an independent comic creator and graphic designer who was nominated for the Russ Manning award and several other Eisner awards for his work in retail comics. The art and life of Dave Stevens inspired this fellow Californian to put together his first comic book, The Adventures of the 19XX, and table it at San Diego Comic Con. Unfortunately, they never actually got to meet, but this work is just a small thank you for the inspiration Dave gave him.  This picture is me at my first San Diego Comic con about 15 years ago.
