For Pocketopia I am crowdfunding a scrappy, photocopy zine inspired by the songs of Tracy Chapman (but completely unaffiliated). It will be shaped like a CD booklet (120mm x 120mm) and filled with roleplaying game paraphernalia; games (solo, duet, many-player), moves, inventory systems, safety tools.
Who is this for? If you like Tracy Chapman's music, you will find ways to dwell on the lyrics and engage with the messages, no past roleplaying game experience necessary. If you like roleplaying games, you will find thought experiments and mechanics to add to a game night or inspire your own game design. That said, I'm happy for this not to be a zine for everyone. In the spirit of Folk Punk, this will be a small, intimate affair, quite possibly printed by me and certainly mailed by me. Printed once and then nevermore. Be one of the lucky few who back it!
What are some examples of the contents?
Fast Car: An asymmetrical 2-player game. One player works shifts playing clock solitaire and the other customises their Fast Car.
All That You Have is Your Soul: An inventory system, for the management of physical and incorporeal goods. For import into other games.
Mountain o' Things: A solo experience about immeasurable wealth.
There are two tiers available: $5 AUD: Digital PDF scan of the zine, fulfilled over email and via itch.io. $10 AUD: Physical A physical copy of the 120mm x 120mm (CD booklet) zine, as well as the PDF. Will charge additional shipping costs ($2 AUD for Australian backers, $5 for the rest of the world).
The booklet is expected to be 16 pages and greyscale. There will be 8 entries in the collection, each based on a different Tracy Chapman song. Booklets will be printed by me unless the order gets too big, in which case it will be printed through Mixam. Either way it will be printed on uncoated paper, allowing you to write in the booklet and cut it out.
