Not to bury the lede: the Kickstarter campaign for Eclipse Phase: SCUM, a board game set in our favorite horrific future solar system is now live! It's produced by Moose With Cup Creative, a new board game venture formed by our long-time colleague Davidson Cole.

The board game is the main draw, but there are reward levels that include Eclipse Phase Second Edition (the shiny second printing!) plus a brand new adventure framework The Scum Must Die!

To support the campaign we've also made available the free SCUM Character Pack for Eclipse Phase Second Editionfeaturing all six of the playable characters plus Elis and Pompador Pig as EP2 characters. Every year, we try to get all the Posthumans together in a room for a few days — not at a convention! — to talk about the future, to pitch each other game ideas, to play some games.

A few years ago, we were talking about the idea of making a small Eclipse Phase card game. That version didn’t happen, but a couple of years later Davidson brought it back up. “So I’ve been noodling around with a board game.”

Board game? What had happened to the card game?! Well, that small Eclipse Phase card game would have to wait because Davidson couldn’t be stopped. With Popping Wheelies in the center, the scum swarm began to grow, the rules  refined and tweaked into an intricate and smooth-flowing eurogame.

After a bit more time Davidson came back with: “Gang, I’ve been thinking it over and I want to start my own board game company. And I’d like to start out with SCUM. This is how I want to tell stories.”

(Davidson, beyond his tabletop writing, has written award-winning video games like The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners, written and directed feature films, including a Sundance Premiere. He can’t just tell you something – he always has to tell you the story around it.)
