What's your favorite food? Do you love cookies? Do you know a picky, oops, I mean “particular”—eater? Have you ever tried to eat a book? (Probably as a baby, right?)
Wait!!! All of these questions are relevant to the story below and why this is going to be the TASTIEST campaign you've ever backed! Along with being a great resource to promote a healthy relationship with literacy and food.
Plus, it's a great way to encourage a healthy relationship with both food and reading.
Well, let me tell you a little bit about why I wrote If Shapes Could Eat.
Growing up in a family with diverse dietary needs, I wanted to create a story that celebrates our different tastes and needs when it comes to food. I've traveled the world and tried numerous foods, and something I was always told growing up is that I should try things once, and if I don't like it, that's okay. It also doesn't mean it's bad... just different.
If Shapes Could Eat introduces children to the colorful world of Riley the Rhombus and their friends as they explore a block party filled with various foods. Through playful rhymes and engaging illustrations, this book teaches kids that different isn't bad—it's just that we all have different likes and needs, and that's perfectly okay.
The story also touches on shapes, colors, as well as moderation and variety in our diets. It's important to teach empathy, diversity, and understanding, and one of the easiest ways to convey that to children is through food. We're all not the same, and that's okay!
