Project Update: Meet Mrs. Polonium

Hey, Party People!

I was obsessing about being below $2,500 yesterday. We are now $175 short of $3K and 8 backers away from 100. Hopefully, we can reach one or both of those milestones soon.

Since I was talking about her yesterday, I figured I'd share a character I created, Mrs. Polonium. She is based on Carolyn Beatrice Parker, who was one of the Black scientists who contributed to the Manhattan Project (the Dayton Project, in particular, which was involved in developing polonium bombs).

She is the first African American woman known to have obtained a post-graduate degree in physics. She actually got a masters in mathematics from the University of Michigan in 1941 and a masters in physics at MIT in 1951. She was working towards her PhD at MIT when she died of leukemia (apparently, many who worked on the Dayton Project contracted it).

Mrs. Polonium will be featured in my next Lion Man story, which will take place in Nazi Germany. Of course, backing the current campaign will help  make this story possible.
