It all sounds so familiar – the bare and crude stone corridors; the stale musty air, wailing ever so softly and bearing the smell of mildew and rot; the uneasy silence broken only by the echoes of heavy footsteps and rattling of bones beyond the next corner.
There were more of you before, but your only remaining companion is the flickering torch in your hand – its light your only salvation, but also the lure that alerts all the evil to your presence – hiding just beyond its reach.
Suddenly the stone slab shifts under your foot and you hear a sudden click accompanied by the creaking of rusty gears – a sharp pain rises in your arm and your grip loosens. The torch falls and then there is only darkness.
The walls are closing in, the rattling of bones and clacking of teeth grows closer. You feel your flesh being torn apart and slashed to pieces, your dying screams unheard and forgotten.
All that remains of you now is a disfigured corpse, still holding tightly on to your ill-gotten gains, waiting for the next group of adventurers who come into the ravenous clutching shadows...of the Necromancer's Dungeon.
Necromancer’s Dungeon is a Dungeon Crawl, a large set of rooms and encounters, where an adventuring party has to face challenges such as traps, puzzles, monsters, and many else, on a fully drawn grid map, where every square counts.
What makes Necromancer’s Dungeon different from a typical dungeon crawl is that each room is a modular piece called a Dungeon Tile, which can work as a standalone encounter on its own, or as a room to add in your own adventures. It can be moved around, added to existing dungeons or maps and modified for various levels of play.
Homebrew. As expected, Necromancer’s Dungeon will have lots of monsters to face and loot to collect; and we will be creating all of it. Everything you need will be made by us and found in statblocks and the compendium included in the zine – you won’t need to search anywhere else for reference.
Dungeon Tiles are unique modular battlemats, each of which comes with its own unique encounter that includes, mechanics, monsters, traps or anything you would find described in a dungeon crawl room. These rooms are designed to be usable independently, allowing you to add them to your own dungeons or adventures as you see fit. In addition, they can serve as the foundation for the Necromancer’s Dungeon mini-adventure, which you can use as a full-on dungeon crawl with additional lore, world-building and extra mood and ambience.
A place of forbidden and esoteric knowledge, filled with dusty tomes and ancient grimoires. A peaceful solace from the horrors of the estate. One must be careful not to disturb or to overstay their welcome – there is grave danger to be found among the books and scrolls, waiting to be awoken.
A cold gloomy miasma fills this chamber instead of hot steam. A lady in mourning does not appreciate visitors during her lamentful bath – and you better pray that this lady does not cry or scream, because that will be the last thing you will ever hear.
Each dungeon has its vermin, and a necromancer's is no different – scavengers and opportunists dwelling in parts unreached and undignified. They prey on the weak and the wounded; they steal the treasures forgotten or unprotected. Hero or villain; owner or intruder, it makes no difference – gold will always be gold.
1000$ –Rat Trouble (Dungeon Tile). So many cute and innocent giant rats have been massacred by dastardly adventurers, now they've had enough and come back with a vengeance.
1300$ – Room of Blood (Dungeon Tile). Blood is life, Blood is violence, Blood is passion, Blood is pain. Will you solve the riddle of Blood, or will you drown in it.
1600$ – Reborn Legion (Dungeon Tile). Even in death, these brave and honorable legionnaires keep their eternal vigil – they can rest only once they are freed from their solemn duty.
2000$ – Traps!!! (Extra Mechanics + Map Tokens). A collection of traps, oiled and ready to bring suffering to any adventuring party. The traps will come with appropriately-sized tokens which you can add to a battlemap or a dungeon as you see fit.
2500$ – Sentry Room (Dungeon Tile). A long time ago, an old malfunctioning automaton has been made to watch guard in this place. Its creator may have died many years ago, and the treasure it has been guarding might have turned to ash – but the iron sentry remains, yearning to fulfill its purpose with lifelike excitement.
This is not the end of our journey, but we must first explore these rooms to find out what awaits us ahead!
We at Rudok's Tavern have more to offern than just this Zine, we have made other stuff over the years – which you can add to your cart alongside Necromancer's Dungeon – all of these things are made locally and stored and shipped directly by us, no outside fulfillment services are included.
We are Rudok's Tavern, a dynamic duo that has been creating Homebrew tabletop content for almost seven years. We started off as two enthusiastic amateurs who played D&D together and wanted to share some of our ideas and worldbuilding – over the years we have made hundreds of magic items and monsters and improved our Homebrew craft with each creation.
Everything we make everything we put out is our own creation made with our own hands and skills and fair bit of passion, by supporting our work you support real creative effort!
We have successfully completed two crowdfunded projects: Scions of the Fabled Kingdom, and Chronicles of the Great Desert, two adventure and setting books; the latter of which was released only for our local audience so far. Both of these projects were much larger, Scions has 130+ pages and Chronicles has 280+ pages. Necromancer's Dungeon is our attempt at something on a smaller-scale, and we hope you will enjoy it as much as possible.
