Welcome to Space Wizard Science Fantasy!

Space Wizard Science Fantasy is a queer science fiction and fantasy indie publishing company started in 2016 to publish William C. Tracy's books. Ten books, six years, a pandemic, and quitting a day job later, the publishing company opened its doors to more authors. Our intent has always been to showcase quality science fiction and fantasy stories with queer characters, because they don't get enough exposure in the publishing world.

If you've backed our Year 1-3 campaigns or read Space Wizard books, you know the quality of work we publish. Get any or all of the new stories as they release. We have some great new books coming to you!

- In 2022, the Space Wizard Science Fantasy Year 1 campaign raised nearly $18,000 for 12 books.

- In 2023, Year 2 raised over $18,000 for 12 more books with great covers, illustrations, and hardbacks!

- In 2024, Year 3 raised over $17,000 for 14 books and two new TTRPG systems!

- Also in 2024, we released Lesbians in Space: Where No Man Has Gone Before, with almost $11,000 for an anthology of 21 stories, including 4 by Hugo award nominated and winning authors!

- In 2025, we ran Space Wizard Year 4 Part 1 in June, raising over $10,000. In September, we ran the sequel to Lesbians in Space, The Sapphics Strike Back! It raised almost $12,000, so that's the number to beat for this campaign!

Space Wizard Year Four Part 2

The fourth year of Space Wizard continues with 7 more queer science fiction and fantasy books, releasing from December 2025 to June 2026!

Read through our amazing new stories in the "Books" section below!

In this campaign, you can get any of the included books, or pick your favorites, and get them in eBook or paperback format (signed by the authors)! You can also get a subscription to the Fourth Year of Space Wizard! We'll ship you each new book as it comes out, or ship all seven at once in June 2026.  Want to know what's coming next? The schedule is below, or you can visit the Space Wizard Coming Soon Page for full descriptions of all the books.

As a reader, you can get awesome things in this campaign like hardcovers, signed books, trilogies, queer stories, diverse stories (short and long), and even a subscription to Space Wizard! We'll send you all the new books or eBooks as they come out. You just have to sit back, read, and enjoy! There are also some cool buttons, pins, keychains, decals, and other swag...

For writers, Space Wizard prides (pun intended) itself on making sure our authors get great exposure and marketing for their books. A common problem for small presses is to overreach, and not deliver. That's why this campaign is running! Space Wizard aims to stay debt-free on initial releases, as well as giving great royalty rates, wholesale prices for authors to buy their books, up-to-date covers, and effective marketing for all of its books.

This campaign will pay for great covers for the upcoming books, as well as editing, publishing fees, and other cool things like illustrations!

Books

Releasing from December 2025 to June 2026, we've got two standalone books, and several amazing sequels coming your way!

  • DECEMBER 2025: The Dragonscale Comb - sequel to The Rosewood Penny - The much-awaited continuation of the romantasy by J.S. Fields!

    Marani is no longer human.

In the aftermath of treasonous princesses, soothsaying secrets, and ruined balls, Marani finds herself a chimera: not quite human, but not fully dragon, either. She and her brother Jacks must complete their transformations to claim their forgotten heritage, but the island of Yuro now knows dragons are alive. Those who control dragons control the archipelago, and everyone from dragon hunters to soothsayers has gone hunting.

Marani must navigate carnivorous pegasi and vindictive harpies while searching for her brother’s transformation key, as well as untangle the strange magic that refuses to release her human body. Answers might be found in a secluded unicorn-historian bar, or from the pages of Princess Nuria’s lost notebook. A forest of magical creatures and roving bands of hunters stand between Marani, the safety of her loved ones, and her future. But love is a magic all its own, and the power to finally transform Yuro’s dragons may not lay with them, but with one determined princess, and the legacy of the Dragonscale Comb.

  • JANUARY 2026: Corruption - When their ability to connect to the magical Flow disappears, Revan and the other students at his college’s island are stranded, surrounded by fiery seas separating habitable regions.

Revan can’t retreat to his home island, and is only in contact with people who don’t know his true identity.
While most people only have one of the five crystals in their torso lit up—determining their role in society—Revan is among the few with more than one lit-up crystal. If anyone finds out, he’ll be considered Othercrystalled, and cast out from society.

Torn between his feelings for his male best friend and a female classmate, with his secret close to being revealed, Revan discovers evidence the magic might not have been cut off naturally. Someone might be using the chaos to hunt Othercrystalled. Someone full of Corruption. Check out Alexander Verbeek-van den Toren's debut book!

  • FEBRUARY 2026: Tea Tale - Divine has learned a lot about herself, her magic, and her goddess. But now she and Saph are getting ready for the Midwinter Nights Faire, and that’s the worst time for her magic to go haywire! She might be able to talk to animals now, and Saph seems to be flirting with other patrons. Is there anything left in Iramont for Divine?

It will take an unlikely quest, some world-shaking revelations, and some unexpected friends to show Divine her direction in life. The journey will be a tale to tell…over tea!

Check out Kristina W. Kelly's next story in the popular cozy fantasy romance with D&D elements!

    (Preliminary cover below)

  • MARCH 2025: The Healer's Magic - The conclusion of C.J. Hosack's epic YA adventure, about an adopted young woman who searches for her parents in a world where magic is dictated by bloodline!

  • APRIL 2026: Fractal Terminus - Jax had been alone on her Station for ten years, and that was the way she liked it. But then came Saunders, and her cheery, cute demeanor was just what was needed to bring Jax back to humanity. Shame the Station underwent a horrifying transformation at the same time!

But hold on, it's getting weirder! No one is sure where the Station is now, or even in which reality it exists. Find out what might happen, what could happen, and what is so improbably impossible that it probably won't happen. Probably. It's like Everything Everywhere, All at Once, but with lesbian horror/comedy in space in A.Z. Rozkillis' next scifi tale, Fractal Terminus!

  • MAY 2026: Mothball Magic - Ruth has been there and done that. She’s already saved the world in WWII, when magic was locked away forever. So when it inconveniently comes back in the middle of cooking dinner, seventy years later, Ruth must assemble a team of the mightiest geriatric magic-users left in the world to find out what caused it.

But this isn’t like sneaking behind enemy lines when they were younger. Just missing her heart medication might be a bigger danger than facing down the fae. Old witches and wizards without their powers are just old ladies and men. They might live longer, but they’re still only human, with grudges that go back decades.

It's the Golden Girls meets The Dresden Files! Four geriatric people must stop the Queen of Winter from taking over the world, in Mothball Magic by Rena Rocford!

  • JUNE 2026: Talio Rossa and the Elixir of Life - Six months after the events of Talio’s Codex, Talio and Pazli are living and working court cases together, but struggling with their mixed-religion relationship. When a lump on Pazli’s neck appears malignant, Talio must do all he can to find a cure, even by magic. But since all mages were killed fifty years earlier, that should be impossible, shouldn’t it?

Hobb, a medical historian, claims to have the elixir of life: a universal cure for any disease. As Talio investigates the mysterious man, he wonders if he might be the real thing…or if putting Pazli under his care will kill him.

As he races to uncover the truth about Hobb, Talio must also raise a huge amount of money to pay for the surgery. High-stakes gambling is the answer, even though he may lose his hand in the process. But with Pazli’s life hanging in the balance, Talio has to discover what Hobb’s hiding—a secret that will change their world forever. Discover a great M/M relationship in the sequel to last year's Talio's Codex, from J. Alexander Cohen.

Space Wizards!

So what authors are included in the fourth year of Space Wizard? You've seen them in their interviews (and if you haven't, give them a watch), but check out the full list of names below!

J.S.Fields (they/them) (@Galactoglucoman) is a scientist who has spent too much time around organic solvents. They enjoy roller derby, woodturning, making chain mail by hand, and cultivating fungi in the backs of minivans. You can find their books at www.jsfieldsbooks.com. To read more in the Ardulum universe, and more of J.S.’s work, join their Patreon at http://www.patreon.com/jsfields

Alexander Verbeek-van den Toren (he/him) is a Dutch child psychologist who lives together with his husband and their dog Wiske in Spijkenisse, The Netherlands. He writes in both English and Dutch and is fascinated by different cultures, both real and imaginary.

Kristina W. Kelly (she/her). Since childhood, writing stories on her mother’s typewriter or trying to catalog her own books like a library, Kristina has been in love with storytelling. Her undergraduate pursuits focused on Psychology, Music, and Computer Science. With trumpet as her main instrument and a connection to nature, Kristina often works music and visual landscapes into her writings. She is an author of poetry, short stories, and novels including the Etherea Cycle which she wrote with one of her best friends; it blends SciFi with Fantasy, which she loves to do. In her spare time, she does photography, makes various crafts, plays video games (RPGs are her favorite), dabbles in other instruments, and tends to her flower garden. She loves going on new adventures in the great wide somewhere (sometimes just by picking up a new book). Kristina resides in Indiana with her husband and sons. Visit her at kristinaseyes.com

C.J. Hosack (she/her), grew up in Southern California loving fantasy and science fiction. She has four children and an ever growing number of grandchildren. Adopted at eight months old, she recently found her birth parents. She has a Master’s Degree in Public History from Southern New Hampshire University, and if she’s not writing, you can generally find her quilting, costuming, or traveling to spend time with those she loves. C.J. is currently two and a half books into writing her YA fantasy series about adoption and hereditary magic. She’s a wannabe dress historian and follows many similar accounts. You can find C.J. on Twitter @CJHosack.

A.Z. Rozkillis (she/her) builds spaceships in her day job. She teaches about spaceships on the side. And now she apparently writes about spaceships in her spare time. Where she finds the spare time is still a mystery. Having been raised on a steady diet of classic science fiction and horror—consumed mostly through the staircase railing after bedtime while her father was asleep on the couch—A.Z. has always maintained a love for space travel and the unknown. This has largely fueled her career in aerospace engineering but originally fueled a passion for writing science fiction stories when she was very young. After a long quantity of months cooped up inside, A.Z. finally returned to her storytelling origins. A.Z. lives in the Mid-Atlantic region of the US with her wife and son, their dogs, several thousand honeybees, and way too many Legos.
You can find her at her website at https://azrotheeng.com/ and on bluesky @azrozkillis.

J. Alexander Cohen (he/him) graduated from law school in the early 1990s and worked in legal publishing for several years. He still looks upon his legal education somewhat fondly, even though he never practiced law. He's also surprised as to how much he actually remembers of what he learned. His first novel, Bear Like Me, was published in 2003 and reprinted in 2011. After 16 years as a caregiver for his elderly parents, he returned to fiction writing with the Lavender Tavern podcast telling gay fairytales. He lives in Toronto, Canada and works as a technical and marketing writer. To read more of his works, visit www.jalexandercohen.com

Like most mad scientists, Rena Rocford (she/her) has made an art form of living seamlessly among the normals. Today the bills, tomorrow the world. With a long history of shady labs and government projects, Rena now creates nerdy art and enjoys rolling polyhedrons at imaginary monsters with her family and friends. Her previous publishing exploits include a YA fantasy, Acne, Asthma, And Other Signs You Might Be Half Dragon, that spent weeks in Amazon’s top 100. Rena’s next book, Mothball Magic is being unleashed in 2026.

Finally, we have some incredibly talented artists also contributing to the campaign!
Serene Chia is creating the cover for Tea Tale!
Katie Cordy is creating the cover for The Dragonscale Comb and The Healer's Magic!
MoorBooks is our excellent cover designer for the rest of the books!

Thanks also go to our esteemed copy editors! Until now, Heather Tracy has been the only one copy editing all the books releasing from Space Wizard. Last year, we added our good friend Courtney Brooks to the copy editing pool, to help get through all those books a little faster! And since we now have some more copy editing resources, you'll see we have two different copy editing backer levels!

Shipping

My shipping fees are from my experience in the last five campaigns. Note the above numbers are estimates. Shipping will be added when you fill out your survey form, and is based on your location. Generally, US shipping for one book will be about $7, three books will be about $9, and five books is around $11. See below for International shipping.

Subscription Box:
To keep shipping costs manageable, the next 6 months worth of Space Wizard books will be sent all at one time, around June 2026. This brings shipping costs for all the books down to around $15. If you want to get each book as it's released, just pick the "multiple shipment option" addon for the US (see below).

International Shipping:
Yep. It's expensive. The cost starts around $30 for one book, shipping to Canada, and $50 international. The price will go up for extra books by weight. For example, another 2 books will add around $5-10 in shipping. This is the cheapest I've been able to find it for, especially if you are getting multiple books. I'd recommend getting the eBooks, and then you can get as many as you want!
If you do want to order physical books, especially for the subscription box options, I've set the shipping to send you the books after they are all released, which will cut down shipping to about 1/6th the cost! However, you'll get them as late as June 2026, after the latest publish date, depending on which ones you choose.

Multiple Shipment Option!
I will send out each book to you as it arrives (US only), but this is an extra shipping charge. To get the physical books as they release, pick the "multiple shipment option" in the addons either in the campaign or when you fill out the survey afterward. Then each book will be sent individually, and the total shipping will be around $45. This covers shipping you 7 boxes over the course of the next 6 months, each one containing a new adventure!

Money, Timeline, and Risks

Where's all the money going? Risks and challenges.

These projects will be published, at a base level, even if the campaign is not funded. This campaign is to help realize the full potential of this indie publishing company to start out each book without any debt so the authors can see immediate returns on their hard work.

Books will be published, around one a month, so as a backer, you can expect to see an electronic copy of the book a few weeks before it's released. If you backed the physical version as well it will be delivered around the release date (if you picked the multiple shipment option) or otherwise once all books you've backed are released. The Year 4 subscription will be delivered in one shipment around June 2026.

There are always risks and challenges with determining a budget for a campaign such as this, but I am a Professional Engineer by training, have spent the last 20 years in cost and benefit analysis, and now do data analysis for a living (along with publishing). I have accurately assessed costs for large projects in my work environment so I have a good understanding of how and where money is spent, and I have applied that knowledge to seven previous campaigns. See below for how the money from the campaign is used:

Even if you don't pledge, thanks for taking the time to read this through! We strive to deliver quality queer stories to you with a professional feel. We hope Space Wizard will continue to expand, making plenty of stories where everyone can see themselves.

We have seven great authors and books this campaign is helping to fund, and chances are you've heard at least one of those names. Please spread the word, and I hope to see you all back in June (or maybe before!) with more books!

- William C. Tracy
