The PDF of the game will be sent to backers who pledge at least $10 USD via BackerKit once the initial print production is completed. Shortly after, physical books will begin to be shipped out to all backers who pledged at least $25, plus the extra goodies for backers who pledged at least $50. With luck, this will all happen in late Q1 of 2026. Without luck, Q2. Once the last backer's book is mailed out, Bite the Hand will become available to the general public. AT MINIMUM the game will be made available digitally via Itch.io and/or a similar storefront. I would also like to make it available in at least one print-on-demand or similar format. I would also like to reach out to other online storefronts to see if they're interested in carrying physical copies of the game, particularly in Canada, the EU, and AU/NZ to make up for how expensive shipping would otherwise be, but no promises. With luck, you might be able to find me selling it at a convention table, or at your FLGS.
If you don’t have money to give (understandable), or have already pledged and still want to help in other ways, the best things to do are: - Share the BackerKit link with your friends and on social media. #bitethehand - Subscribe to Spellbook Gaming on YouTube. - https://www.youtube.com/@spellbookgaming - Follow us on social media and interact with our posts about the game. - https://bsky.app/profile/spellbookgaming.bsky.social - Tell folks about the game at conventions and your local game stores. - Play the beta and then tell other people how totally awesome it was (for a beta). - Invite Alex on to your podcast, stream, or news outlet to yap about the game. - Shout from your nearest safely accessible rooftop. What you should NOT do to help: - Talk down on other games or creators. - I.e.: “Bite the Hand is so much better than [insert game here].”
RAW, no, but I do plan on making a free simple conversion guide available closer to when Bite the Hand becomes publicly available. Space horror and cyberpunk are thankfully both under the same umbrella of sci-fi, so most gameplay concepts translate easily. With just a little bit of prep, you'll be able to run something from your pile of Mothership zines and pamphlets in BTH! Maybe even Proxy Error, which you'll get if you back at the Deluxe level.
I don't know! Despite how nice and official everything looks on this page, I'm just one guy doing this out of a small apartment! Everything is being printed in the same place and then going out from there. I'm doing my due diligence to seek the best deals for you, but there are limits. I have no control over the state of the geopolitics, labor relations, and distribution systems that affect global shipping, unfortunately. The zines are relatively small, so hopefully instances of extreme shipping costs will be rare. I will not be offended if anyone outside the US opts to stick to the digital-only tier for now. Assuming all goes well, I would like for physical editions to be made available elsewhere by sending bulk orders directly to non-US retailers, but that can't happen unless the campaign is successful (and I cannot truly guarantee it'll ever happen).
Short answer: Yes! Long answer: I needed the permission of Tuesday Knight Games to create a game with the Panic Engine, but now that it's been approved by them Bite the Hand is my legal IP, and thus I can set the rules for it's usage. I don't have all the finer legal details worked out just yet, but yes, you will be able to write modules and supplements for Bite the Hand, and you will be able to monetize them. It will be at least as easy to do as Mothership's 3PP content process, if not easier. I'll likely be announcing this via our Discord and social media once it's figured out, and the actual legal language will live on spellbookgaming.com.
Either leave it in the comments on the community page, hit us up on social media, or send us an email at [email protected].
BackerKit FAQ
BackerKit Crowdfunding is an all-or-nothing collaborative funding platform. Creators share their project ideas and set a funding goal with a deadline. Backers pledge money to help make the project possible.
If the project meets its goal by the deadline, pledges are charged and the creator moves forward. If it doesn’t, no one is charged.
Backers often receive special rewards for their support, such as:
- Exclusive products
- Bonus rewards for backing related projects
- Discount pricing
- Behind-the-scenes updates
- Creative input opportunities
Pledging in crowdfunding is a commitment to support the creation of a new product or project. Unlike a traditional purchase, you're not buying an item that already exists. Instead, your contribution helps bring a creative idea to life, and in return, you typically receive rewards (such as the product itself) as a thank you for your early support.
- Select a pledge level with the reward(s) you would like to receive
- Select any add-ons
- Confirm your pledge!
- You are charged only if the campaign meets its funding goal.
- Charges happen when the campaign ends, not when you pledge.
The creator will send you a survey to:
- Ask you for more information about your rewards (selecting options, etc)
- Collect shipping information
- Offer additional items you may want to add to your pledge
- Collect shipping fees (if applicable)
The survey will be sent to the email address we have on file with your pledge. Additional payments are charged when you complete the survey.
Only the project creator and the BackerKit Support Team can see your pledge and contact information. Other backers and the public cannot see your individual pledge amount or personal details.
You can change or adjust your pledge level and add-ons before the campaign ends. After the project concludes, cancellations or changes are at the creator's discretion and may depend on what stage the project is in.
Overtime Mode extends your campaign past its original end time to give backers a final chance to make their pledge. It will add an additional 10 minutes past the end time as long as pledges keep coming in. The campaign will end when there is a 10-minute period without any new pledges.
