BackerKit FAQ

How does BackerKit crowdfunding work?

Crowdfunding is a collaborative way to bring ideas and projects to life. Project creators post their idea for a project, and backers pledge money to make the project possible. Backers get behind the scenes access and backer-only rewards, which can include exclusive products, special pricing, creative input, content, and more.

To become a backer, select a pledge level that features the reward(s) you would like to receive when the project is successfully completed and make your contribution.

All-or-nothing crowdfunding model: The creator sets a funding goal and a deadline to raise funds. If the project does not meet the goal by the deadline, backers credit cards are not charged and no money changes hands.

Crowdfunding projects can happen at various stages of the creative process. Make sure to check the estimated timeline of when rewards will be delivered. Project creators will keep you updated on the progress toward completion and delivery of your rewards.

Backing a crowdfunding campaign is not the same as purchasing an item from a store. When you back a campaign you are supporting the creation of something new. Rewards are almost always delivered, but are not guaranteed.

When will I be charged for my pledge?

Your payment method will not be charged right away. You will be charged for the amount of your pledge when the campaign ends and the project reaches its funding goal. You will not be charged if the campaign does not reach its funding goal.

What happens after the campaign is over?

The Creator will send out a survey that will ask you for more information about your pledge, your shipping information, additional items you may want to add to your pledge, and collect shipping fees if applicable.

The survey will be sent to the email address we have on file with your pledge.

Any additional payment will be charged when you complete your survey and confirm your order.

Project FAQ

Is there a difference between this and the individual miniseries comics?

We're thrilled to share some exciting news about our latest crowdfunder! While we understand there might be some similarities to our previous 5-issue mini-series, we wanted to highlight the key differences: Larger Format: All issues will be reprinted in a stunning 9x12 size for an enhanced reading experience. Improved Content: We're taking this opportunity to carefully edit each issue for errors, ensuring the best possible product. Expanded Extras: Get ready for even more bonus content! New Letter Column: We're revamping the letter column with a fresh introduction. We believe these enhancements will make this crowdfunder an even more rewarding experience for all of you. Thank you for your continued support!

What do you charge for shipping?

We charge weight based, calculated when you check out. The estimated fee for a sketchbook is $10 USA which includes shipping, full insurance and new packing materials. See the campaign story for further details.

How do I get the trading card set?

Here's a cool deal: imagine you support us AND our friends at Baker Cat Studios (they make awesome stuff too!). Well, if you back both of us, you'll get a FREE trading card set as a thank you for being super awesome and supporting two creative projects at once! It's like getting a bonus gift for being a double supporter! Because our project is linked with Baker Cat Studios, post campaign Backerkit will find out who backed BOTH and add the trading card set to their order! Baker Cat Studios does not accept international orders. Back them at the DIGITAL level and us at the MAILED level and we will ship the set to you!

I'm Interantional, can I get the trading card bundle?

If you wish to back our partner, Red Skirts, who is not accepting international orders, back their digital bundle. Post campaign, anyone who backs a MAILED level with us and a DIGITAL level with them, we will be adding your trading card set to the carts on our checkout! Nothing else needed on your part.

What size is the paperback? Big I hope!

After publishing the Coming of Gourmando in standard paperback size, we learned from our mistake and will not be doing that again. The Coming of Gourmando Collected Edition will be 9"x12". A good size for the TPB. We hope to do well with this and build a community on Patreon. With that goal in mind we hope to have the following books for each series: (1) Comic Book: Though this is a little small, it gets us in the door for FCBD comics (2) Paperback: These will always be 9"x12" moving forward (3) Oversized Edition: This will be a 12" x 17" hardcover similar to the color section of Gourmando and include all the colored pages plus any extra strips (like "Out There") (4) Artists Edition: This will be 12" x 17" and feature only the pencils and inks from the series (5) Limited Edition Set: This will collect both the Oversized and Artists Edition into one larger set, both books will be signed by Steve. It will include a single slipcase and will be shrinkwrapped.

Will upgrading my pledge keep the Backer Train going?

No, unfortunately, it currently only counts new backers. That new backer can back for as little as $1 though! According to Backer Kit: "...your campaign will keep going for an additional 10 minutes ... as long as pledges keep coming in – a chain of back-to-back pledges we call the Backer Train... the Backer Train stops where a period of 10 minutes passes without any pledges..."
