Thousand Year Old Vampire, Physical + PDF
$47.50643 purchasedA solo roleplaying game of loss, memory, and vampires. In Thousand Year Old Vampire you chronicle the many centuries of a vampire’s existence, beginning with the loss of mortality and ending with inevitable destruction. Prompt-driven play and simple resource tracking provide easy rules for exploring your character’s human failings, villainous acts, and surprising victories. Expect gut-churning decisions and irreconcilable acts. The game mechanics are simple and intuitive. Play progresses semi-randomly through a book of Prompts which let you explore your vampire’s wants and needs, resolve problems, and chart the decline into senescence. Play can happen entirely within the character sheet or can become a journaling activity--both work equally well.EditIncludes 2 items

A Collection of Improving Exercises, Physical + PDF
$32241 purchasedAlso titled "A Continued Introduction to Perspective Drawing Techniques Suitable for Intertidal Scapes and Still Lives; the Workbook, Volume II in a Series" by Tim Hutchings, dated 1924. Item description: The interior is printed in black and red ink. The handsome end pages are a red pattern with white dots. The book has ostentatious gilt page edges. The blue cloth hardcover has handsome designs in silver and gold foil on front, back, and spine. From Goodreads: This book, copyrighted 1924, is part of a series of drawing manuals authored by Timothy Brian Hutchings. While a large number of this specific volume are known it is not known if examples from the rest of the series are extant. It is possible that the other books in the series were never actually printed, or that the disposable nature of the books means that none survive. While this book does contain cursory instructions regarding perspective drawing it is meant to be an adjunct to another book which is presumed lost. Nonetheless, the exercises in the book may prove useful to budding artists of all skill levels. The book as a whole has twelve pages of instruction, twenty-eight pages with literary excerpts or weighty quotes from the author regarding the art and science of perspective drawing, around 6300 words, and roughly one hundred drawing exercises. Each exercise is isolated on its own page and it seems that the artist is expected to draw within the book. There are four pages with handsome illustrations, one of which repeats at the beginning and end of the book. It is the opinion of this reviewer that any value in this book lies in the exercises. The conceit is that reader/artist is a romantic beachcomber and each exercise introduces a new item washed up by the sea. For example, Exercise 9 reads "A cluster of glass or cork fishing floats. Five minute time limit. The sun reflecting in the glass is blinding; the view through the glass, distorted." All in all it is a curiosity of limited utility but is a novel read even if the exercises are skipped. *** So: All the above is set dressing, of course. That's a fake Goodreads review. This is not actually an old book. It IS a handsome thing and I DID make it, but the Tim Hutchings mentioned in the book isn't the Tim Hutchings that is me. Not really. A free PDF is included with all print purchases. The PDF built out of a photocopy of the book, so know it doesn't match the book exactly–it is a ratty old photocopy of the book which resembles the generations old photocopy packets I'd get in college. If you think TYOV or SYMA is neat then you will probably enjoy this drawing game-like thing.EditIncludes 2 items

An Account of the Lengthy Existence and Numerous Experiences of Ambrose Blackhouse, Vampire, With Special Attention to Those Years in Which He Walked Upon This Earth Tho Dead, an Illustrated Novel by Tim Denee
$20204 purchasedThis is the book An Account of the Lengthy Existence and Numerous Experiences of Ambrose Blackhouse, Vampire, With Special Attention to Those Years in Which He Walked Upon This Earth Tho Dead, an Illustrated Novel by Tim Denee. Hereafter it shall be called The Book. It is NOT a game. This Book is a collection of Tim Denee's illustrations of his play through of the game Thousand Year Old Vampire. A piece of art was made for each Prompt as he uncovered the story of Othin, a Danish fisherman, who runs afoul of The Rek and is cursed with eternal unlife. You can see the entire collection of images here. For free. All of 'em. To be absolutely clear: The contents of this book are, and will remain, freely available to all for as long as we have an internet–you do not need to buy The Book to enjoy Denee's story. Who is Tim Denee? Tim Denee is an artist/illustrator/designer I've admired from afar. He made clever, moving comics of his Dwarf Fortress play throughs and I LOVED them. When I figured out that the guy making this great TYOV Prompt art was the guy that made the Dwarf Fortress comics I was full of incredulous, suspicious joy. I do not deserve things this good, I thought. And I'll add this: I am entirely responsible for this book being produced and delivered. Tim Denee is innocent of anything that might go wrong. What's this book like? It's a 9.5" wide by 5.5" high clothbound hardback book. It's 88 pages if you don't count the endpages, which you shouldn't. Front and back have gold foil and are artfully debossed. It ain't a game but it is very handsome nonetheless.Edit -
Thousand Year Old Campfire, or Old Morris Cave: A Continuous Use Campsite in Mammoth Cave National Park, an Excavation - Physical + PDF
$23319 purchasedThanks to Tim Hutchings, you will believe that a hole full of broken pots and animal bones can make you feel emotions. -Anna Anthropy I don't know if I know how to explain this, but I must try. You are buying a game. The game is disguised as a particular sort of regionally produced archaeology journal which I used to see for sale in state parks when I was a youth. In this solo game you are creating the results of an excavation of a cave mouth which has been a frequently used campsite for a thousand or more years. You do this backwards, building up history from the bedrock up. You will roll a die and add dirt, building the cave floor upwards over time. At some points there will be archaeological finds 'uncovered'; you will operate a flowchart to learn about that find and how it came to be there. I am very proud of these flowcharts–some of them are, maybe, the best art I've ever made.EditIncludes 1 item
