The Salamander Mines is a 26" x 39" poster map of the 20-level Salamander Mines megadungeon. For this project, I will be digitally remastering a massive hand-drawn dungeon map and printing it in poster format.
I created these 20 hand-drawn level maps back in 2015, and I've always wanted to see them put together into one picture. Now, with Megadungeon month, I've got my chance.
Hand-drawn maps sampling
I' stitching these individual maps together into a huge poster. Here's a schematic showing the scale of the endeavor.

I'm also in the process of digitally remastering and coloring these maps. All the maps have already been created and the digital remaster is already 50% complete.
Digital remaster
The poster will include some of the original adventure material, as well as some new material created for this project. I'm also making a book so you can bring these adventures to your gaming table.
The Salamander Mines were created using How to Host a Dungeon, my solo megadungeon making game. As part of this project, I'm going to update the layout of How to Host a Dungeon and release the rules as a printed product for the first time!

How to Host a Dungeon
How to Host a Dungeon is a solo game where you create a dungeon while following it through its history by creating a map.
In this game you will create a unique world with randomly-generated features and resources like underground rivers, valuable ores, and mysterious caverns. Your world will be shaped by civilizations, settlements, and monsters, as they dig dungeons, expand their lairs, gather treasure, and fight for survival.
When you finish, you'll have a complete dungeon map for a world that you created.
The game also includes the monster card deck, with 48 different monster groups for How to Host a Dungeon.
The Seattle Doomsday Map is a 24" x 36" full-color map of post-apocalyptic Seattle. I'm including physical copies of the map as an additional add-on and reward for this campaign.
Seattle Doomsday Map - detail
The Seattle Doomsday Map is a huge painting of downtown Seattle devastated. Buildings have collapsed. Cars lie abandoned on I-5. Neighborhoods have been consumed by fire, water, and returning nature. Civilization has dwindled to a few scattered enclaves, but in those refuges, life carries on with full vigor. This vision haunts me constantly, but it also gets my imagination going, which is why I was compelled to create this image.
Hi, I'm Tony Dowler, and artist and game designing living in Seattle, Washington.
This isn't my first crowdfunding project. The Seattle Doomsday map was a successful Kickstarter project with over 600 backers. My art has been featured in numerous games and books, including The Burning Wheel, The Quiet Year, and Dungeon World.
Dungeons are my passion and megadungeons in particular.
The digital remaster of the Salamander Mines map is a work in progress. It's about 50% done, and I expect it to be complete by June. However, I am allowing a few more weeks of buffer to take into account possible delays and life events. I plan to print and fulfill this campaign before September of 2026.
This project will feature two main rewards, the Salamander Mines megadungeon map, and a book including maps of all the levels with additional random tables, encounters, drawings, and lore.
The map will be 26" x 39" printed full color on poster stock and numbered.
The books will be a full cover softcover book of 28 pages, 8.5" x 11". This is a great resource for game masters who want a full megadungeon to explore, or who are looking for some lightly-detailed levels for their game.
I'm also offering print copies of my game, How to Host a Dungeon, for the first time. This includes the HtHaD book, a 30-page 8.5" x 11" book, and a deck of 48 monster cards.
Finally, there's the Seattle Doomsday Map, a 24" x 36" poster of post-apocalytic Seattle.
Because of the complexity and high cost of international shipping, I'm not able to ship this project outside of the US at this time. If I can find a good international shipping option, I may add some international rewards after the campaign begins.
Planned ship date is August 31, 2026. This is more time than I think we need. If I'm able to ship earlier, I will.
I will try to keep shipping as low as possible for this campaign.
The rolled poster ships in a poster tube, suitable for framing. Estimated shipping for rolled posters is $9-$12. Extra posters purchased as add-ons are included in that cost.
If you're ordering the book and folded poster, shipping is estimated at $9-$12. Extra books and posters can be included in at the same cost to a reasonable limit.
How to Host a Dungeon, which includes playing cards, ships from a separate facility and will add to the shipping cost. Shipping alone, as an add-on, this added $10-$15 to the shipping. If you buy the Salamander Mines book and How to Host a Dungeon, we expect the total to be $20-$30.
If you purchase the Seattle Doomsday Map as an add-on, we can add it to a rolled poster order at no extra cost. If you are not already ordering a rolled poster, this item will add $9-$12 to your total shipping charge.
Where possible, we will combine items to reduce your total shipping cost.
