Project Update: The art of Boggits of Kingsmire!

As I've told you last time, this month we got A LOT of art and I wanted to showcase some of the amazing pieces we got from some amazing artists. Without further ado, let's jump right in!

The Conflict

The central tension of the setting attached to Boggits of Kingsmire is a variation on "civilization vs nature" or "law vs chaos". In our specific case it's "royalists vs boggits" or "civilization vs swamps". To showcase the conflict, we got this amazing piece from Sławek Rybka:



And there is also this dynamic piece by Przemek Gul, where you can see characters represeting both sides fighting each other:


Civilized Lands

The Duchy of Kingsmere is split into two parts - the human controlled "civilized" part, and the "wild", swampy one controlled by the boggits. We will venture into the swamps soon enough (and we have a lot more art there), but I wanted to start with the less swampy stuff. Przemek Gul (who did a lot of art for this product) made this piece to picture Selkinbury, town build around a monastery of the Convent of the Silkweavers:



And there is also a filler art showing shield with the coat of arms of the duchy (again by Przemek Gul):



I also wanted to post an update on our molten gold demon (malchrys) from Milbert Reverente:


Swamps

Now we get to the main course! Let's start with a piece that was already shown in the first Backer Packet we released some time ago - boggit village by Gusmang Deva:



Now some character art from Przemek Gul (boggit beastheart) and from Amelia Połtoracka (gnawksie - our toothy fishfolk):






Dwarven Ruins

And finally, the ruins of Zanrad! We've met the stretch goal of expanding upon thing related to the fallen dwarven city known for its technology blending mechanics with psionics, so we also got some art for it. Below you can see pieces by Amelia Połtoracka (the full page art of the flooded Zanrad ruins) and Przemek Gul (two coglings - dwarven mechs):

Also, for something more typical for us, we got art for Hivehusks from Eryk Szczygieł (who in the past did most of the art for our Vampire class product):

Project Update: The vampires are out!

Hello everyone, Ananam here!

This is a tiny update to inform you, that our previous project (the Vampire class) has just been released! This is relevant to some backers of this project, as it was possible to pre-order the vampire stuff during the crowdfunding campaign for the boggits! If you want to know more, read the update in the other campaign. At the very same time we've launched our online store! Check it out here! If you've haven't yet, you can buy the Vampire class product there! If you know someone interested in getting the vampire, point them to our store, as it will be the only way to get the product for now!

Project Update: Project Scope and Backer Packet #1

Happy Froggy Friday! Time for our first REAL update on this project!

Current Project Scope

After the crowdfunder for the Boggits of Kingsmire was done and after we were joined by some new people to help with this endeavour (and future ones too!), we sat down to finalize the scope of the project. We had some big ambitions and while we already trimmed the scope a lot, this product is still going to be... pretty damn big! We think of the scope as "finalized" but there is still space to add or remove some elements if we feel like something is out of place or if we come up with some brilliant new ideas. Anyway, the main part of the product is shaping up to be a little under 100 pages.

The Boggits of Kingsmire book will consist of three large sections: Players' Options, Kingsmire Gazetteer, and Monsters. Each section looks to be around 30-40 pages. Players' options will have stuff like new kits, perks, complications, downtime project, titles, treasure, the boggit ancestry, three new stormwight fury kits, two new conduit/censor domains (swamp and time), new swampy elementalist abilities, shadow college of lost technology (using ancient psionic dwarven tech gadgets), power armor rules, and, if Draw Steel license will allow, three new beastheart companions. The gazetteer will be full of (we hope) interesting places and adventure hooks that will possibly fuel many campaigns and adventures set in Kingsmire.

For the monsters we will have some new monster families, like the boggits (obviously), hivehusks (shambling hives built on corpses), bog bugs (a collection of giant insects connected to wetlands), cogworks (ancient dwarven mechs powered by psionic crystals) and gnawksies (fey cursed into shapes of small toothy fishfolk wielding storm magic) with their beheel (eel behirs anyone?) pets. We will also have some new hags and solos, including the angler frog and the malchrys, both of which you can totally see and use today! You can see line art for the malchrys, a molten-gold greed demon, below!

We will also have quests, many of them! All of them will be for echelon 1 and there will be a spread of them for levels from 1 to 3. You might remember that some of the quests will be written by the pillars of the Draw Steel Community: Cameron of Rise Heroes Rise, Jon de Nor of Goblin Points and Stawl App, and Paul Ligurski of Heart of Arcana. We are really excited knowing what they've been cooking and we can't wait for you to experience it! Speaking of...

Backer Packet #1

Today you should gain access to our first Backer Packet which will contain many things I've mentioned above! Some of the content is fresh off of our design production line, and some of it was already internally playtested. Personally I had great time playing a Lost Technology Shadow and I think KingGurke did an amazing job designing the subclass! What you will find in the packet, are: 7 new kits, the swamp domain, new elementalist abilities, three new stormwight kits (frog, croc and beetle!), college of lost technology, and A LOT of new monsters (3 new solos - angler frog, malchrys, and zaliac timeforger, and 4 new monster families - boggits, bog bugs, hivehusks, and cogworks). For dessert, there is also a quest for level 1 - Chorus in the Reeds! As you can see there is a lot of content and we hope you will enjoy it! The art will flow

Most of the funds we gathered are going towards A LOT of art. We don't know the final list yet, but there will be like 35+ art pieces in this product and more than 20 of them are already in progress. We signed contracts with a lot of artists, most of whom we collaborate with for the first time, and we can't wait to show you the results! We will have a lot of art done by the end of this month and by the middle of March, so I guess it will be good time to share some amazing stuff with you then! The art will flow just like honey does in Kingsmire. Oh, by the way...

I was convinced that we should give having a Patreon a chance and so we did! You can check our Patreon out here! You can totally join for free and there will be some posts available to free members too, but there are two paid memberships that unlock access to Draw Steel designs we do for the Patreon. The 5$ tier let's you access the PDF with the design, but for the higher tier you also get a design-process writeup from whoever designed that month's paid thing.

Project Update: Pledge manager is live and so are pre-orders!

Pledge manager and pre-order store

You might have noticed that we've sent out Backerkit surveys earlier today and granted all our backers access to the Pledge Manager. If anyone needs any assistance with the Pledge Manager, please reach out to us on Discord or go for [email protected]. So far it seems like everything is working as intended, but please let us know if you discover any problems with the process. It should take you like 2-3 minutes to complete all the required steps and be done with the Pledge Manager.

At the same time, we've launched pre-order store for the project! If you didn't back in time - now is your chance! It's never too late to get swampy!

Project progress

Now that we know what our final budget is, we are finalizing the scope for the project and talking about art. Let me tell you, there is going to be a lot of art! We've already reached out to many artists we haven't worked with before (and some of them are already eager to work with us!) and first art briefs are already written and sent out! Hopefully we will have something to show you before the end of the year!

Also, in the meantime we are making progress with quests, the gazetteer section of the book, and prototyping some new designs. Just yesterday I finished first draft of the Beetle Stormwight Fury Kit! We will keep you updated every month or so and let you know about cool things we are working on! Hopefully you will get a playtest packet before Christmas!

Project Update: The boggits are coming!

Hello everyone!

Although it is not wednesday (my dudes), today is a very froggy day indeed! Our crowdfunding campaign has ended and we consider it to be a great success! We are astonished by how popular the boggits are among the Draw Steel community and we are extremely eager to continue designing for and developing this project!

With your generous help we funded and then we reached not one, not two, but THREE stretch goals! This means that with the base product you will also get a starting town of Stilton, a whole bunch of new monsters (including new solo creatures), and content exploring the dwarven ruins in Kingsmire and their psionic-powered clockwork technology! There will be A LOT of cool stuff for both players and directors, and you will also get A LOT of quests set in the Kingsmire region!

We are already reaching out to many new artists we want to work with - with the budget we now have, we plan for there to be a lot of high quality art! We will be spending next weeks on finalizing our plans for the Boggits of Kingsmire. Expect to hear from us in a few weeks! How about a playtest packet in December, so that you can spend some Christmas time playing Draw Steel with some of our new content? Also, expect Pledge Manager somewhere within next month.

For the backers of the Swampshaper level, we will be reaching out to you further along the way.
