This update is long overdue, but we wanted to drop in and let you know what the Dark Council has been up to and where we're at with HCC.
We know you're here because you want an update on HCC, so we won't keep you waiting. We're excited to announce that the core book manuscript is currently in the hands of our editor. Once the editing process is finished, the manuscript will be placed in the loving care of Randy to handle layout. Our goal is still to have the book in your hands by the end of the year. We will likely deliver the PDFs as soon as they are ready, so you can have it asap.
The core book isn't the only thing we have cooking. We have received some initial art for the Director Screen and are furiously working on getting the adventures completed as well. Wow! Layout for a core rulebook and 8 adventures? Randy sure has his hands full. But don't worry, he's chained to his desk and we have a Synthesist monitoring his vitals.
Here's the cover for the upcoming adventure, Bloodball. Artwork by Chris Keefe. In other news, We have started a Patreon for our fantasy setting, Klahneth. This is the world that spawned the Out of Gnollwhere series of adventures. You can check it out here.
A huge thank you to everyone that has followed us on our socials. Because of you, we reached the 1500 followers goal. The winners of our drawing have been notified. We'll make an announcement about the prizes soon.
The recent crowdfunding for our Weird Frontiers adventures and zines, Ride Hard, Die Weird, has been completed and will be going out to backers over the next week.
Whew! No rest for the wicked. We are so excited to get Horror Cinema Classics into your hands! I'll make sure to not wait so long until our next update. In the next one, we'll update you on our upcoming con schedule. Until then, take care and as always, thank you so much for you continued support!
Sorry for not providing an update in a while. We've been pretty busy, but I wanted to provide a quick update on what's been going on in the Wayward Studios laboratory.
Horror Cinema Classics continues to stalk along towards completion. We have been doing a lot of playtesting and taking that feedback into the lab to provide some fine-tuning. The Quickstart Guide has been updated and is available here. The Dark Council convened for a development meeting and ironed out a few wrinkles. Art continues to be commissioned. Speaking of, here's an amazing piece from Kamoria Art.
This month we also attended Dungeon Con 2 in Fort Wayne, IN. We had a booth, ran some HCC games, and met a whole lot of fantastic gamers and creators. HCC was a hit and our tables were full for all our games. Sadly, Andy was unable to attend. We locked him in the basement so he could continue to plot more inventive ways to terrify our players. Here's a few pics from the con.
So, what's next? We are nearing the finish line for completing the core rulebook. Soon it will go to our editor and then to Layout Lord Randy for, well, layout. Oh, and another big announcement will be coming soon. If you enjoyed our fantasy work with the From Out of Gnollwhere series, we will be starting a Patreon page dedicated to delivering content from the world that spawned those adventures. But more on that later.
Once again, thank you from the bottom of our blackened hearts!
The Quick Start Guide covers six classes. The core rulebook expands the options to a full 10 classes. This is just a quick update to spotlight one of these new classes, the Slayer.
Born to Kill. The Darkness has long worked to corrupt, manipulate, or outright destroy humanity. In response to the growing threat, the Powers That Be sought means to combat the Darkness. They instilled in a certain bloodline the tools to do just that. You are born of this bloodline. Darkness takes many forms: snarling monster, sadistic slasher, scheming manipulator. The Slayer hunts them all. This birthright sat dormant within you until your brush with the Darkness awoke it. With virtually no training, weapons became an extension of your limbs. But beyond that, your body responded in miraculous ways. Suddenly, those old kung-fu movies you watched on Sunday morning didn’t seem so far-fetched. You are a true force to be reckoned with. Single-minded, swift and powerful, the Slayer is someone you’ll want on your side in a battle with unending evil.
The Slayer focuses primarily on melee weapons, but also gain abilities that turn their body into a lethal weapon. Check out the amazing art by Joey Docil and watch for the next class spotlight; The Possessed.
Cheers, The Dark Council (Mark, Andy, Eric, and Randy)
It has been a busy couple of months since our last update, but we wanted to provide an update on all things Wayward Studios, especially Horror Cinema Classics.
Writing continues, as does the nonstop playtesting. Our goal continues to bring you the best horror RPG our devious minds can imagine. Some of the most exciting features is the inclusion of some new classes; The Profiler, Slayer, Possessed, and Psychic. We are also fine-tuning the rules for Invoking the Darkness. In the coming weeks we'll be doing spotlights on each of the new classes and our Invoke the Darkness rules, now with extra vileness.
We're also happy to announce a new artists that has succumbed to the Darkness, Christopher Tupa. Here's one of his pieces that will be added to the book. Now for some convention news. We had an amazing time at Gary Con this year. We brought with us a plethora of HCC content to terrify and entertain our players. We ran adventures from the crowdfunding as well as several adventures that will be rolling out in 2027 and beyond. We had a blast running games for both veteran HCC players and those new to us. But it's not all work at Gary Con. We took time to let our hair down and hang out with some great friends.
Finally, We have another crowdfunding over on Kickstarter. We love making content for Weird Frontiers RPG and have another round of zines, including a new class, some short adventures, as well as a full-length adventure. Check it out here.
Thanks again for all your support! Mark, Eric, Andy, and Randy
