Echoes - A One Shot Horror Comic

Echoes - A One Shot Horror Comic

In the early morning hours after the witch is burned, a sole mourner comes to pay their respects to the smoldering stake, only to find that something is lurking in the nearby woods. Think The VVitch meets Annihilation.

What is Echoes?

Echoes is a 28 page black and white one shot comic about what happens the morning after the village burns the witch. It's an eerie puritan folk horror that reads like The VVitch meets Midnight Mass.

Cover options for Echoes

In the small hours of a November morning, Mariah sneaks out to the still smoldering stake where her friend was burned as a witch the night before to place a bouquet of flowers at her feet. Soon, the whole village is covered in new growth as a miracle revitalizes the Earth. The town rejoices, but only Mariah seems to notice the water turning black and the strange sounds coming from the edge of the forest...

Echoes tells the terrifying story of a puritan town reaping exactly what they've sown, where the celebration at the feet of a charred corpse turns into blood curdling screams and the wilderness claims what belongs to it once again. It's a story about the reverberations of heinous acts and the guilt of being a bystander in a cruel system. It's a warning about why you should never, ever burn the witch.

The First Five Pages!

While we are presenting the comic first and foremost in black and white, we do have spot coloring as a stretch goal in our funding road map!

Characters

Mariah

A young woman from another village that was married off to the local preacher. She's generally unwelcomed by the residents of her new home, but was befriended by a kindly woman on the edge of town--until that woman was burned at the stake.

Thomas

Mariah's husband and the village preacher. Stern and preoccupied with tending to his flock, he shares a position of local and social power with the village Judge. It was on his insistence that Mariah's friend was burned as a witch.

Is Echoes for Me?

Echoes is a horror story, so keep that in mind before you jump in, but we think that if any of the following describe you, you'll probably really enjoy this one shot!

  • Readers who like slow burn folk horror like The VVitch, Somna, and The Village will love Echoes's puritan setting and eerie themes
  • Fans of psychological horror like Silent Hill and Heretic will appreciate the surreal environment and plotting of this comic
  • Lovers of cosmic horror like Annihilation and The Shadow Over Innsmouth will be gripped by the twists and turns of Echoes.
  • Fans of our previous horror comics like Frankenstein the Unconquered, Descent into Dread, and From the Static will find more of what they love about those books present here
  • People who want character driven narratives that trust the reader's intelligence and don't overdo the exposition.

Stretch Goals

$8,000 - Spot Coloring Added! This is how we would like to present the story if possible, with splashes of color throughout the comic while maintaining the black and white aesthetic of the art as it's presented. Think Sin City.

$10,000 - All backers will get access to the digital horror short The Infant by Wells Thompson and Rachel Allen Everett

$12,000 - All physical backers will get a free bookmark with their copy of Echoes. In addition, the team will get a bonus!

$15,000 - We'll add an additional 8 page short story to the back of Echoes in both physical and digital format, (details TBA)

Timeline

We keep our estimates conservative to try to account for hiccups in the process like illness that can't be prevented, so keep in mind that our presented timeline is flexible!

  • Campaign ends: End of September
  • Art completion: December 2025
  • Digital fulfillment: January 2026
  • Physical fulfillment: February 2026

We try to communicate at every juncture to make sure our backers are aware of where we are in the process of making the comic so if anything does change from our planned timeline, you'll know it well in advance!

Shipping

We are charging for shipping POST campaign so we can prevent any unexpected price hikes in shipping costs on our end and make sure we're charging you fairly on the actual weight of your package rather than guessing on a per item basis.

We ship everywhere, but being based in the United States, you can expect packages to go out sooner and arrive faster if you live in the US. To compensate for the extra time and cost, International Backers will get their comics signed for free!

We estimate most domestic packages will cost between $6-8 to ship, where international packages will be somewhere in the range of $15-23 depending on weight.

Technical Details

We print our comics with Comics Impressions, our stickers with Stickerapp and Jukebox, our enamel pins with Galaxy Design Squad, and our prints with CatPrint and The Print Shop in Oak Park.

We bag and board our comics and ship them in Gemini mailers to ensure that they arrive at your door safely and in good condition.

Comics are printed at 6.625"X10.25" (American standard comic format) and are staple bound.

Unless otherwise stated, our prints are 5.5"x8.5" (American digest format) on light satin finished paper.
