Project Update: July Update

Ahoy!

Here is a July update for the Expanded Rulebook/Encyclopedia Monstergoria. We're balancing and refining the rules for Magic Spells, which will provide a wider array of casting options and spell types. It won't be a laundry list like a traditional RPG but they will be effective, fit within 321RPG's world, and fun as hell.

Geo is working on the voicing for the Attenborough-esque narration for the Encyclopedia Monstergoria. Which has been neat so far. We're also adding more monsters which is super exciting to me as well. He's been teasing that he's got the name worked out but hasn't told me yet. I'll keep prodding.

We also made a call to include a full-length adventure in the book, rather than shorter adventures. Our thinking is that we want you to get the full experience and we didn't think we could convey that over four short five or six-page mini-adventures. So there will be a full adventure inside, ready to rock, right out of the box.

We're also going to roll our guest writer's adventures into a separate zine which will also be included as well. l got the idea after seeing the adventure I guest wrote for Weird Heroes of Public Access TTRPG, Ponch And Judy Was A Punk in a supplemental book called We All Have Secrets. Flow-wise, it felt better to have it separate from the main book, so we are going to go with that model as well.

We’ll be back later in the month with more. Until then, stay safe out there, and may the dice always roll in your favor.

P.S. In the words of the great detective Columbo, “Just one more thing.”

Today, we launched Days of Future Fairhaven, a 3PP for Weird Heroes of Public Access TTRPG. In it, you play as Public Access TV Hosts trying to stop an evil sentient AI from destroying your town with a 24-hour news cycle. There are a bunch of strange locations to visit, oddball NPCs, dance battles, horse racing and so much more. Check out the link below to learn more.

A 200+ page paperback copy at a special BackerKit Price: $5.99 (One-time exclusive old school price offer).

One day, she had a name, a home, and a family. The next, she had a spellbook, a backpack, and a new name: Doom.

When her peaceful village is destroyed, a young girl is swept into a world filled with monsters, mystery, and magic. Rescued by two orphaned monster hunters, Doom journeys with her newfound family from town to town, battling monsters, solving puzzles, and uncovering dark secrets that might be closer to home than she realizes.

A Girl Named Doom is perfect for readers who love spooky adventures, brave heroes, and stories of friendship forged through magic and courage.

Project Update: May Update!

Whoa!

I hope you are all enjoying this spring weather and preparing for the launch of summer this weekend. I'll be grillin' and chillin. However, if you are going to the beach, remember that if you see a shark, don't go in the water, no matter what the mayor says.

As far as production on the Rule Book and Encyclopedia goes, we are a little behind where we want to be as we finish up Death By Dino. That said, we're heads down and working on it.

I got some incredible feedback on The Hotel Exorcist the other day from a player regarding the rules, and it reminded me of why we created this system in the first place. So we'll be leaning into that a little more in the rules.

Speaking of Death By Dino, we've got some dinos that will also appear in the Encyclopedia, and we've got Tiger Wizard drawing them! Tiger Wizard is a pal first and foremost, but he is also an extraordinary artist and has a mind for the hobby like no other. So for me, this is huge.

I will have some previews of that next update and more. Until then, stay positive and enjoy every sandwich.

Stay safe out there, and may the dice always roll in your favor.

Project Update: April Update

Whoa!

Apologies, I meant to do a March update, but I blinked, and suddenly, it was already April.

So Ahoy! Happy April!

Geo and I have been working hard to get The Hotel Exorcist to our backers. It was indeed a labor of love, and ultimately, we built a haunted hotel, which is pretty cool.

We also got to the home stretch on our end of Death By Dino while continuing to build out the rule book and Encyclopedia Monstergoria.

New Rules: I've been watching A LOT of detective programs, even more than usual, and I think I have come up with a unique take on P.I. rules that will complement our 321RPG rules and still provide a satisfying sleuthing experience.

New Monsters: We're trying to balance what we have already set and what we think would resonate the most with people looking for a fun pick-up-and-play experience. So more on that soon.

We'd also like to share some WIP page updates over the next few months so you can enjoy a look behind the scenes at our process. This is our biggest undertaking to date, and we want to ensure we get it right. So, with that said, I want to share our mission statement with you. Geo wrote it the other day for our website, and I think it perfectly sums up who we are and what we are all about.

321RPG Mission Statement

At 321RPG, we don’t make money from our games—we put everything back into making the best books possible. That means hiring amazing artists and graphic designers, pushing for quality on every page, and putting care into every detail. We believe RPGs can be a lifeline. They give people a place to connect, to not feel alone, and to work through tough times in a creative, supportive space. That spirit—of community, empathy, and storytelling—is at the heart of everything we do. We’re here to grow this space, make great games, and build something meaningful together.

We'll be back soon with another update.

Stay safe out there, and may the dice always roll in your favor,

-JHM

Project Update: February Update!

Ahoy!

I hope all is well wherever you are. It’s been a minute since we launched, and with the holidays and January, we leaned into the adage that no news is good news. So, now that we are entrenched in February, I thought I would take a moment to bring you up to speed on the current state of our Expanded Rulebook and Encyclopedia Monstergoria.

Currently, (while on the precipice of delivering The Hotel Exorcist and working on completing Death By Dino, we have been fleshing out monsters for the Encyclopedia and figuring out how to convert and balance traditional fantasy weapons for 321RPG.

It has been a cool experience because I got to revisit some of my favorite old versions of Dungeons & Dragons and see how seamlessly a classic weapon can be scaled using the d10.

Joey Royale has submitted his adventure for the Rulebook, and it is a gem. It is what you would expect from the brilliant mind behind Weird Heroes of Public Access. I am also working on my first one, titled (at least for now) Kids Don’t Follow.

In the meantime, Zine Quest is underway, and we have just launched an adventure called Avon By The Sea

Here is the synopsis.

In the sleepy beachfront town of Avon By The Sea, a devastating hurricane has awakened an ancient evil—and it’s up to you and your friends to stop it.

Set in the off-season of a quiet vacation town, Avon By The Sea combines The Monster Squad's kid-driven adventure with The Lost Boys' brutal horror. It's kids versus monsters in a battle for survival.

Do you have what it takes to face the darkness?

Check it out here.

https://bit.ly/AvonByTheSea

I’ll be back soon with another update.

Stay safe out there, and may the dice always roll in your favor,

Project Update: That's A Wrap!

We did it!

The 5th Anniversary Expanded Rule Book and Encyclopedia Monstergoria campaign has ended. Once again, we’re floored by the outpouring of support from each and every one of you.

It’s not just this campaign, either. It’s everything.

We’ve survived almost five years as an independent publisher that started in a New Jersey basement and have been able to provide work to amazing artists, editors, and layout folks because of you.

Your support, no matter the amount, has meant that we keep making cool books and feeding that part of ourselves that is compelled to create.

It means you and your friends can create a few more fun memories sitting around a table, slinging dice, and having some laughs.

More than that, we get to put a little more beauty into the world through art, even when it is a picture of a hideous monster.

So when I say, “We did it!” I don’t just mean Geo and me; I mean ALL of us. Together.

Hell Yeah.

It is a holiday weekend, so I will be getting the BackerKit set up next week. Geo and I will be working on these books, and we cannot wait to start sending work-in-progress updates and give some sneak peeks of what is in store from the expanded Rule Book and Encyclopedia.

So, on behalf of Geo and myself, THANK YOU!

Stay safe out there, and may the dice always roll in your favor,

-JHM & Geo Collazo
