Greeting cards featuring native wildflowers of the Midwest
Native plant greeting card mockups. From left to right: White Trillium, Wild Ginger, Ohio Spiderwort, Dutchman's Breeches, Showy Lady's Slipper, Lanceleaf Coreopsis
I'm creating greeting cards from my watercolor paintings of native plants around my yard and local parks. One of my projects as a first-time homeowner and nature-lover was to add biodiversity to my lawn by planting native species. As things started flowering this year, I painted some of them from life.
The funding goal will go towards printing costs for 5x7" folded cards featuring White Trillium, Wild Ginger, Ohio Spiderwort, Dutchman's Breeches, Showy Lady's Slipper, and Lanceleaf Coreopsis paintings.
$7: One Greeting Card - One 5x7" folded greeting card of your choice. Artwork is printed on the front, facts about the plant are printed on the back, and the inside is blank. Envelope included.

Dutchman's Breeches (Dicentra cucullaria): This woodland species is known as a spring ephemeral, meaning it blooms before trees leaf out, providing food for early pollinators.
Watercolor painting of Lanceleaf Coreopsis
Lanceleaf Coreopsis (Coreopsis lanceolata): This daisy-like flower is known colloquially as tickseed, since its seeds resemble the insect.
Watercolor painting of Ohio Spiderwort
Ohio Spiderwort (Tradescantia ohiensis): Each individual flower lasts only a day, but new flowers bloom daily and are numerous. Sunlight and high air temperatures cause the petals to melt, closing the flowers.
Watercolor painting of Showy Lady's Slipper
Showy Lady's Slipper (Cypripedium reginae): Though it's not in my yard, I had to include Minnesota's state flower! A rare wild orchid that grows in wetlands.
Watercolor painting of White Trillium
White Trillium (Trillium Grandiflorum): A slow-growing woodland species whose seeds are spread by ants.
Watercolor painting of Wild Ginger
Wild Ginger (Asarum canadense): These low-growing plants produce a single flower in early spring that lies on the ground for emerging flies to pollinate. The flower is meant to mimic a thawing carcass of an animal to attract flies.
I started practicing watercolor en plein air this year. This means painting things as I see them outdoors, rather than from reference photos like I do for most of my work. The most easily-accessible and interesting subjects were the plants in my yard!
The Portable Painter palette fit perfectly on the arm of my camping chair!
I put some watercolor paper scraps on an old clipboard and brought along some basic brushes, pens, and my Portable Painter palette. For a few weeks, my neighbors would occasionally see me sitting on the ground or a camping chair, super focused!
I sat in the leaf litter next to my White Trillium plant. Photo shows the trillium painting on a clipboard in my lap, with my portable palette and the trillium plant visible among the dried leaves.
With the exception of the Showy Lady's Slipper, I painted all of these sitting in my yard. Some of them I finished indoors due to sunset or weather, but it was still a great way to practice a simpler watercolor technique than my usual style.

I'm Annie, I’m a wildlife artist! My favorite part of nature is birds, but I love learning about and drawing anything from the natural world. I was first taught traditional Chinese watercolor painting in 2006, and over the decades I have built my unique art style incorporating Chinese and self-taught techniques. I work with watercolor, markers, colored pencil and more to capture my love for nature and birds.
This campaign is US-only. I'm a very small business and can only ship cards in the US at this time!
If this campaign funds, you will receive a survey after it ends to choose your cards and make any changes to your order. Once I have all of those, I will put in the printing order. It will take 1-5 business days to print the cards and get them shipped to me. Once I receive them, I will package all the orders, which I estimate will take a week depending on my schedule. Cards will be shipped by USPS Ground Advantage. I estimate delivery will be in August 2026.
Shipping and handling and sales taxes will be charged in the pledge manager before fulfillment. I estimate the shipping cost will be $5-10.
Other things you should know:
Communication: I will send out updates on the project page about when the stickers are in production and when they’re ready to ship, or anything else backers may need to know.
Refunds: I will grant full refunds for pledges within 30 days of the campaign's end date, no questions asked. After that, I cannot grant refunds and if you choose not to fill out your survey or pay shipping and tax on time, your pledged amount will be considered a donation toward the project.
Dates and deadlines will be made clear through campaign updates, and reminders will be sent on a regular basis throughout the post-campaign timeline to remind backers who haven't yet completed their surveys.
Fulfillment: I estimate the cards will be ready to ship by August 2026. The estimated delivery time is 1-5 business days.
Once fulfillment has begun, all remaining backers who have not yet filled out their surveys will have 30 days to complete and submit their surveys to receive their rewards. After that, any backers who have still not filled out their surveys and paid their shipping and taxes will have their pledges for physical items considered a donation toward the project.
Damaged or Missing Items, and Lost or Misdelivered Packages: You have 30 days after your package arrives to report to [email protected] any needed replacement items for damaged or missing items in your order. If your order was damaged, you must include pictures of the damaged products and packaging. For packages that go missing, you have 45 days to report it after the item is sent to have me resend or follow up on the items. Packages that are sent to an incorrect address as a result of an error in your entry will require you to pay for shipping the new package. You will be notified before addresses are locked and will have a chance to update your address until just before fulfillment begins. If your address changes, be sure to update your address in your survey.
Backers are responsible for providing correct and up-to-date email addresses on BackerKit, and for reading updates as they are made to keep informed about this information and the deadline dates. It is the backer's responsibility to follow up on their packages should problems arise.
