Project FAQ
The PDF will of course require Adobe Acrobat to read. While the project is being laid out using InDesign, I will be in touch with my layout editor to make sure the AI features Adobe has foisted on program users (which clumsily add alt text to any images in the file) are disabled. No AI at all has been used for the writing or the illustrations and images in the book. The physical copy of the book will be an 8.5"x11" edition in full color. Although we are still adding images, and though we have not yet added the front matter (the table of contents, copyright page, etc.) or the end matter (the appendices, the index, etc.), we anticipate producing a volume of between 150 and 200 pages. The book will feature several chapters devoted primarily to player information, several chapters devoted to GM guidance, and closing chapters that include an initial adventure, The First Chance, as well as an open-ended mega-dungeon concept called The Curious Contraption of Inkleton True.
We'll be using Backerkit to collect shipping costs closer to fulfillment, send out surveys, and manage fulfillment after the campaign has ended. Most books of about the same size weigh in at two pounds; I'll double-check rates when the time to mail, but the media mail rate currently stands at less than $6 in the US for that weight. We don't anticipate scads of international interest, but we're game to ship overseas; we do not have a fulfillment partner for worldwide orders. We do, however, know several folks who have worked out the logistics of international shipping before, and we'll lean on them liberally. Much will depend on the commitments of the layout editor, but we hope to have hard copies back from the printer in mid- to late August of this year, which should put us on target to ship by September.
BackerKit FAQ
BackerKit Crowdfunding is an all-or-nothing collaborative funding platform. Creators share their project ideas and set a funding goal with a deadline. Backers pledge money to help make the project possible.
If the project meets its goal by the deadline, pledges are charged and the creator moves forward. If it doesn’t, no one is charged.
Backers often receive special rewards for their support, such as:
- Exclusive products
- Bonus rewards for backing related projects
- Discount pricing
- Behind-the-scenes updates
- Creative input opportunities
Pledging in crowdfunding is a commitment to support the creation of a new product or project. Unlike a traditional purchase, you're not buying an item that already exists. Instead, your contribution helps bring a creative idea to life, and in return, you typically receive rewards (such as the product itself) as a thank you for your early support.
- Select a pledge level with the reward(s) you would like to receive
- Select any add-ons
- Confirm your pledge!
- You are charged only if the campaign meets its funding goal.
- Charges happen when the campaign ends, not when you pledge.
The creator will send you a survey to:
- Ask you for more information about your rewards (selecting options, etc)
- Collect shipping information
- Offer additional items you may want to add to your pledge
- Collect shipping fees (if applicable)
The survey will be sent to the email address we have on file with your pledge. Additional payments are charged when you complete the survey.
Only the project creator and the BackerKit Support Team can see your pledge and contact information. Other backers and the public cannot see your individual pledge amount or personal details.
You can change or adjust your pledge level and add-ons before the campaign ends. After the project concludes, cancellations or changes are at the creator's discretion and may depend on what stage the project is in.
Overtime Mode extends your campaign past its original end time to give backers a final chance to make their pledge. It will add an additional 10 minutes past the end time as long as pledges keep coming in. The campaign will end when there is a 10-minute period without any new pledges.
