We discussed all sorts of things related to Sword & Sorcery, art, being terrified by the least terrifying thing in a movie, the creation of Matt's cover for THE BARBARIAN AT DREAM'S END, and more, all while Matt created a new painting right before our eyes...
Keep an eye out for more cool livestreams during the campaign: On Tuesday, Sept 16th at 7pm EST you can join guest host Jay Requard as he interviews June Orchid Parker about all things SUPLEX & SORCERY.
Then on Tuesday, Sept 23rd Jay will interview Dariel R.A. Quiogue about THE HUNT OF A THOUSAND LEAGUES and all things Orhan Timur the Snow Leopard.
There'll be at least one other cool livestream that we'll announce later...
Did you know these books are being traditionally printed? Yup! This allows us to truly produce the book we want to make right down to choosing a type of paper we feel is closest to what you'd find in classic Sword & Sorcery paperbacks from the 60's and 70's, and it's what lets us offer cool stretch goals like spray color edges.
It also lets us pay our authors better!
This gets a tad technical but....because royalties are a percentage of the profit on each book, it's better for everybody if we do trad print because once the print run is paid for, each book starts at 100% sticker cost before you begin making deductions.
Thus the author royalties are calculated from a higher net profit per book, putting more in their pocket! It also helps increase Brackenbury Books' odds of surviving to keep hiring authors & artists while making more great books for y'all to enjoy.
With POD you're always starting making deductions at less than 100% because there is no print run to pay off - you're paying Amazon or whoever a chunk right off the bat for every copy's printing for all eternity.
So yes, the more we can do traditional printing the better!
Alright, onward to 100% funding!
Please share the campaign with your friends, enemies, friends, enemies-to-lovers, found families, indescribable creatures humanity was never supposed to lay eyes on...
