Project Update: So how does it fit for 5E?

Following a Q&A with the Hardboiled GMshoe on Sunday some info for 5E fans.

So some more information about Paksworld for those looking to use it with 5E. A number of classes and species will not be available and some that are will be tweaked.

There are Elves, Dwarves and Orcs but they will have slightly different attitudes to those in the Core D&D books. Elves for example will have access to Pattern Magic where any carved patterns may have properties Elves can access. They can also sense the Taig of an area or being. Think of it as being able to sense the Force/Spirit within a creature or area.

The standard species we wont be allowing are Goliaths, Tieflings, Dragonborn, basically anything that was introduced after AD&D 1st ed.  Gnomes will be different as in the books they are the Lawgivers, Lawful Neutral who stand by the letter of the contract.

As the world has a clear heirarchy where social class is important, we are incorporating concepts from C&S to 5E to cover this. So your character may well be an 8th Level Fighter but from a peasant background, but where does he stand in relation to the 2nd level Ranger who happens to be the first born of a Baron.  So the backgrounds that are key in D&D 5.1 now have an added importance.

We have looked at what classes fit. No Barbarians or Monks, the classes with no changes will be Bard, Fighter. Ranger. Rogue. Sorcerer. Illusionist and Wizard. The new classes, Kuakgan – a type of Druid of the circle of the Land subclass. All Kuakgan will gain speak with animals and plants as a class ability at first level. Divine casters – Priest. A Divine caster limited to life and light domains. Has basic combat skills but more concerned with the welfare and lives of the members of whichever God or Saint they belong too, and the Marshals Of Gird, a A cleric of the War domain. The strongarm of the priesthood.

We shall be focusing on the richness of the many realms, enabling the players to become embroiled with the various political machinations whether that is orchestrated by Human or Gods. By bringing in aspects of Chivalry & Sorcery the focus on your social standing will change the gaming experience to a normal 5E game.
