Introduction

The original Ghost Ops Modern Covert Operations was released way back in 2017. Since the games release it has sold extremely well, has a active community, and is a bit of a benchmark when it comes to modern military RPGs. Like all creators I look back on the games I have made, and decide I can now do it better. Which brings us to this campaign.
Many of the fans of the original Ghost Ops still play it, and this is really for you, as I feel its about time the game was updated and improved. But if you are new to Ghost Ops then this is the definitive Special Forces RPG and this new Ultimate Edition will take you on a journey past, present, and future of special operations.

What's New?

The new edition of Ghost Ops Modern Covert Operations will fix some of the issues from the original, throw in a load of rules from the expanded editions and other source materials, update the artwork, and be fully proofread and edited.

New Rules will include:
New Armour Rules.
Updated Weapons and Gear.
Hit Locations and Criticals that matter.
Rules of Bio-Weapons and Explosive Devices.
plus much more.

But what about Second Strike?
Second Strike was a trimmed down and unique version of Ghost Ops which works extremely well and was very popular but I felt did not have the feel of the original. The photo art never really worked for me and I am pleased to be coming back to the original.

The Ghost Engine

In Ghost Ops Modern Covert Operations the system that powers it (the GhostEngine) will feel very familiar to veterans of the original game. I have gone back to the skill based system, and just fixed some of the issues I felt it had (armour rolls being something that has now gone).
The GhostEngine is still fast, cinematic, deep, and easy to learn as always and players both established and new will find it friendly and fun to to use.
For those of you unfamiliar with the GhostEngine the system uses Fudge Dice, with skills which are combined and compared to a difficulty number, it is both fast and intuitive.

The New Sourcebooks.

Each Pledge level comes with a lot of sourcebooks, these will be released over time and you will receive them as they are released. I am hoping that many of them will be released with the core rules.

Shadow War - Special Operations during World War 2. This follows members of the SAS, Resistance Forces, the Filthy Thirteen, the OSS, The Devil's Brigade, and others as they thwart the Nazi war machine across Europe and Africa.
Future War - Special Operations in the Future. This sourcebook will look at what Special Ops groups will look like, use and the missions they will go on. Advanced weaponry, gear, and technologies as well as space stations, moon bases, and other battle fields.
Cold War - Special Operations during the Cold War. This will encompass real world operations, the operations conducted during the conflict in Vietnam, up to the fall of the Berlin Wall.
Protect and Serve - Law Enforcement Operations. This gives rules for playing as SWAT and other special police units from across the world, taking down cartels, gangs, and terrorist threats. Also rules to play Agents of US, UK and European Intelligence agencies, as well as Detectives hunting down criminals.
Private Ops - Players can now play as PMCs working for the highest pay, be that arms dealers, rogue states, criminals, or even government Black Ops.
Rogue States - A sourcebook of Cartels, Rogue Governments, Terrorist cells, and Organised Crime Gangs - The worst of the worst from across the world. Included are real and imaginary threats your Operators could face.
Lucifer Project Revisited - Taking the Operators into the hidden world. This combines the supernatural, genetic experimentation and a big dose of the SCP phenomena. Want to have your operators face something outside of reality or our world then sourcebook will cover how to do that.
Mission File - A rebuild of past Missions all held in one book.

There are many more sourcebooks planned, along with mission files for everyone.

Pledges

There are two types of Pledges. Tier 3 to 1 are all for the GhostEngine version of the game. The Savage Operator Pledge are converted to the Savage Worlds Adventure Edition (SWADE). This pledge includes all PDFs and PoD codes.


All PDFs and PoDs will be sent Via DriveThruRPG so you will need an account with them to access the files.


The Ltd edition will be a very special version of the game that some Handlers may want to keep to themselves. This will be a Faux Leather book with ribbon and nice thick paper, here is a mock up.

Stretch Goals


I have a number of Stretch Goals in mind, and I will update this section as we hit the funding goals.

£2000 - Backer Mission File - Once backers have received the Core Rules or if they are already familiar with the rule they will be invited to write missions for the game. These missions will be added to the file and uploaded to DTRPG with all royalties split between the backers.

£3000 - Handlers Pack - Every Pledge will include the Handlers pack. This will include a print and play GM Screen, Character sheets, Mission Generator, Blueprints, and a new Mission.

£3500 - Ghost Ops: Dystopia - A new sourcebook will be added to everyone's pledge. This new setting places the Ghosts in a world that has fallen apart. They must bring back law and order to society, fighting against the gangs and cartels that have taken over. This will be a dark setting, so you have been warned.

£4000 - Charity Upgrade - The charity amount per pledge will be increased to £2 per pledge made after this funding goal.

£4500 - Black Bag Jobs - This will be a set of unique rules designed for a Handler and one player. This will include short missions of Espionage, Assassination, and Sabotage.

Charities

I will be donated £1 from every pledge to both US and UK Veteran charities. If we reach a certain threshold in pledges for the campaign that will increase to £2. I will also give £1 for every Add-On added to a pledge.

The two charities will be:
The Wounded Warrior Project in the USA, and
Help the Heroes in the UK


I believe that Backerkit does a Tip Jar if this is still the case all money raised in the Tip Jar will also go to charity.

Postage and Dates

Most of the rewards being sent are PDFs and PoD codes so no postage is needed for them. Postage for the Ltd edition Hardcover will be the following as of time of writing:

If these change I will let you know and all postage will be collected on Backerkit just before I send out the books.

The Estimated date of release for the Core Rule books will be December 2026. If I can release them quicker than that I will and I always endeavour to do so, as any of you that have backed one of my projects will know, I will also endeavour to release as many of the sourcebooks as I can alongside the Core rules but these may end up staggered throughout 2027 as they will need artwork etc.

I will also like to apologise to those of you in Europe, the cost of postage and the differences in VATs makes sending the Ltd edition core book difficult and expensive, and too be honest a job to work out what country has what VAT etc.
