Three punk games

Three punk games

Here are 3 small, angry, fast games, which stick to their own rules. "SEX/VIOLENCE/POOP 3" explores the limits of your bad taste. "HEX & THE PUNKS" rebels against patriarchal systems. "We were punks" goes back to an era where everything seemed possible.

THREE PUNK GAMES is a collection of 3 small TTRPGs, each dealing with the theme of punk in its one way. Each is presented and being played differently:

  • Hex & the Punks is a small, 40-page booklet including a GMless game of angry witches fighting against a personification of capitalism, patriarchy, or both, and is played with coins;

  • We were punks is a 24-page, risograph-printed booklet, offering a GMless, system-less epistolary game which is played solo first and then as a group, and in which characters reconstruct the history of a punk band and the zine that talked about them;

  • SEX/VIOLENCE/POOP 3: REBELLION ON PLANET TURD will be printed on 9 sheets of toilet paper. In that game, 3-8 players take on the role of slaves of Turd Planet, rebelling against their Master (played by the GM). The game uses a system based on rock/paper/scissors.

You'll like these games if you enjoy experimental playstyles, not taking yourself too seriously and are curious to explore what punk means to you!

Let's delve a little more into game mechanics!

HEX & THE PUNK's rules are quite simple and can be summed up thusly:

  • The characters have two stats, hex (everything that is magic-related except casting spells) and punk (the rest). When they act, they throw as many coins as they have points in that stat; any coin landing on the appropriate side (tails for hex, heads for punk) is a success.

  • You need only one success to move forward with anything, but all coins creating successes are put into a common pool, from which you can draw to cast spells. You can do any type of magic you want but the larger it is, the more coins you'll have to pay to avoid unwanted side effects!

There are subtleties and optional rules, but that's the core loop of the game!

A spread from Hex & the punks

WE WERE PUNKS is even simpler: as an epistolary game, it involves no mechanics whatsoever. Everything revolves around what you describe and what you wish to happen: in your quest to know more about the punk scene of yesteryear, what you say becomes the truth.

The three concepts around which SEX/VIOLENCE/POOP 3: REBELLION ON PLANET TURD revolve are also a character's stats; they test it by playing a modified version of rock/paper/scissors against the GM. When they fail a test, they lose points in a stat, until they have none left (at which point they probably die a painful death). The system doesn't get more complicated than that: S/V/P is designed for fast-paced absurdity, not complex strategies!

If you want to see how all of this translates into play, you can download a free, digital version of all 3 games. These are the full game, virtually identical to what you will have in the printed version (except for Hex & the Punks which is unformatted at the current date):

Edit

I'm not offering a digital version of any of the games as a pledge level since they are all available for free already and will remain so for the years to come.

Therefore, the only thing you have to choose is whether you want:
  • One printed game for 5 € (+ shipping fees)

  • Two printed games for 10 € (+ shipping fees)

  • Three printed games for 15 € (+ shipping fees)

You'll be able to select which game(s) you want to receive, and in which language, in the post-campaign survey.

Oh, I almost forgot about the secret game!

  • For 50 € (+ shipping fees), you'll receive all 3 games plus an additional, secret game I will never release outside of this campaign. I obviously can't tell you what it will be but it will be punk-related, that's for sure.

That's not all: if you back 5 Zinetopia projects or more, you'll get a digital zine full of exclusive content! A lot of us have contributed a one-page thingie and there's a lot of gold in there. I've included a game about the family tree of a punk band that will remain exclusive to Zinetopia for a short while, so go get it!

Finally, you'll also be able to purchase a print version of many of my previous full gamesGreen Dawn Mall, Two Summers and its supplement Other Summers, Meanwhile, in the Subway, Broken Cities, Feathered Adventures, The Red Lion Hotel. I'll also be offering 3 of my smaller games: HERE & NOW, The 7th Rainbow and She Traveled / She Stayed.
And, as a bonus, you'll be able to get a whole roll of SEX/VIOLENCE/POOP 3 instead of just a handful of sheets! Hey, I'm not judging you.

Green Dawn Mall—teenagers searching for their lost friend in a weird endless mall

Two Summers—wonderful adventures 30 years apart

Other Summers—alternative settings and rules for Two Summers

Meanwhile, in the Subway—surrealist adventures in the form of a map

Broken Cities—urban exploration of a quixotic city

Feathered Adventures—light pulp stories in the style of children's comics

HERE & NOW—experimental exploration of the whole of time and space

The 7th Rainbow—a whole life told in seven scenes

She Traveled / She Stayed—two urban witches, 30 years after their last adventure

The Red Lion Hotel—a grand hotel and the people wandering inside it

Note that shipping fees will be collected after the campaign.
If you live in North America, fees should be somewhere about $11 for untracked parcels of all 3 games; I'll be working with Studio 2 as a fulfillment partner and we'll try to keep prices as low as possible.
If you live anywhere else in the world, fees should be somewhere between 6 and 15 € for untracked parcels and for all 3 games. They won't weigh much, so I should be able to keep things affordable.

Note that, given he state of things, these indication are subject to change and I can't guarantee the fees indicated here. Additionally, there will most probably be customs dues to pay for your copy, depending on where you live.

Edit

  • I'm Côme Martin; I've hosted a French RPG podcast for many years before switching to game creation, writing dozens of mini-RPGs which you can find here. I've also successfully funded and created Green Dawn Mall in 2020, Two Summers in 2021, Meanwhile, in the Subway in 2022, Feathered Adventures and Broken Cities in 2023,  3 games about Life in 2024 and The Red Lion Hotel in 2025. I'm responsible for (almost) all the written things in these games!

  • Nimaël is responsible for the layout (the collages!) and the illustrations of Hex & the Punks. They worked on the layout of I'M A TRANS MAN in 2022, Louise Dumas and My Lover's Body is a Temple en 2023, and illustrated The Valiant's Circle in 2024, A Knight's Oath in 2025. They currently work on many layout and illustration projects, which is neat! Their games can be found here, their drawings there, and you can follow them on social media here or there.

  • She never met glory with her punk band in high school, so Lisa Banana took refuge in gluing pieces of paper and playing roleplaying games, which sure sounds less loud but isn't less efficient to imagine a world far from patriarchy and capitalism. She's responsible for some text and the layout of We were punks; her other creations can be found here!

Edit

This is far from my first rodeo: this is my 8th crowdfunding campaign and the previous 7 have all been successful, hitting no particular obstacle, so I'm confident this one will be similar.
The games are fully laid out and written, in fact they're already available digitally! I've also already started the printing process, with no foreseeable hurdles, so I'm confident I'll have them ready to be sent before summer.

Let's make these games a reality!
