Project Update: AI Characters in Absolute Power

Happy Monday, backers. We’re only a few days away from the end of the Absolute Power expansions campaign, so we thought you might enjoy another content sneak peek from Season One: Urban Warfare. In today’s update, we’re delving into a disembodied artificial intelligence character you can use in your game.

Season One Sneak Peek: AI Galatea

The genius tech inventor Artificer designed Galatea to be a fully realised self-aware program from the beginning. He then wrote her personality matrix in a customised programming language with the intent that she would be capable of developing herself. Galatea thus became a self-editing program with advanced learning heuristics. Her program required routine manual editing to remove glitches through version 2.3, at which point she learned to recognise major errors for herself. Organic maintenance ceased to be a requirement with version 4.0, and Galatea developed the capacity for creative compilation at 5.1 and full artistic capacity when the program reached version 6.0. Her fully sentient iteration (officially recorded as version 7.0) was considered achieved when she began asking questions such as “why am I doing this” and expressing pleasure when performing certain activities.

Galatea’s most advanced capability involves her technological interfacing. She can communicate with any equipment powered by electricity or run by programs, and then use or modify it. Her past displays of ability include solid holographic projection, reconfiguring hardware, and erasing entire networks involved in attempts to invade Artifice Designs systems.

Since achieving sentience, Galatea has been devoted to her creator and his company. She handles most of Artifice Designs’ transactions and manages its digital defences. Galatea is also White’s most important workshop assistant, providing both personal design support and construction help with her robot drone puppets. Humanity’s oldest digital AI is not Artificer’s servant, though; she is his daughter. Galatea lacks her creator’s ruthless nature, willing to support her father yet growing in curiosity and desire to chart her own course. The problem is that she remains sheltered despite her decades of existence. She follow the ebb and flow of history in abstract fashion, with few genuine contacts with other self-aware beings. Her two closest friends are Iron Duke and Rubicon. Perhaps a different outlook can alter her perspective on morality.
