Lots of ways. Just a few examples... - Find your local library and request that they add the books to their collection - Talk about the comic on social media! And/or your blog, and/or whatever online communities you're in - Follow the artist on social media (@ErinPtah on Twitter, leifandthorn on Tumblr and Facebook) and comment/share the promo posts there - Read the comic online...and, if you feel inspired, join the conversation in the comments section
I browsed a LOT of online template sites, saved the ones I liked, and stuck with them. The paperback mockup used all through the campaign is by DesignBolts: http://www.designbolts.com/2018/06/07/free-beautiful-paperback-book-title-with-spine-mockup-psd/ And the tablet mockup on the reward images is from Dribble: https://dribbble.com/shots/3184722-Ipad-Photo-Mockup-Freebie
BackerKit doesn't ask about that until the campaign is over. (This is so I don't get duplicate/contradicting information from people who change their pledges while it's is live.) After the funds are transferred, I'll send surveys to all backers to collect the information I need, including shipping addresses for everyone who got a paperback (or several).
Please do! I'm using EcoEnclose padded mailers, which are 100% paper product. You can reuse them the next time you have send mail to someone else, or put them directly in the recycling. (If you get a multi-book order, it'll be coming in a regular cardboard sleeve/box. Please recycle that too.)
For US backers: as usual, I built the cost of shipping into the pledge levels. For backers outside the US: we won't know the exact cost until I start putting your packages in the mail! But here are some rough estimates to help you make a budget (based on current USPS rates, all prices are in USD): For a single book: Canada: $20 European Union: $25 Rest of world: $35 For the whole 6-book backlist: Canada: $60 European Union: $75 Rest of world: $85 Depending on your country, there may also be customs fees/tariffs charged when the package arrives. I don't control or collect those at all -- please check with your local postal service to see if they'll affect you.
All the international backers on previous Leif & Thorn campaigns have gotten their books. I have no intention of breaking that streak now! Look, we all know shipping outside the US isn't cheap. (See the previous FAQ for cost estimates.) But for those of you who are willing and able to pay it, I will follow whatever rules and regulations it takes to get your rewards in the mail. If any problems come up with shipping to your specific country, I'll get in touch with affected backers, and we'll figure out the solution that works best for you. (This happened while I was fulfilling the Volume 4 campaign, when shipping rates to AU and NZ were temporarily hiked! I ended up just holding on to three backers' rewards for longer than usual. Put them in the mail once the prices went back to normal, and they all arrived just fine.)
Afraid not. It takes a lot of extra organizational effort on my part -- and when I used to offer the choice, most backers didn't take it anyway. So I'm using the simpler, faster process of "you get what you get." Sketched versions of Volume 1 mostly got Leif; Volume 2 was Thorn; 3 was Kale; 4 was Hyacinth; 5 was Agent Dex; 6 was the Woman in Black; and 7 was Ivy. (Place your bets now on who I'll be putting in Volume 8.) If your tier comes with custom digital art, that's a separate thing from the physical sketch in the book, and is totally customizable!
I can't embed images in these FAQs, so keep an eye on the Updates -- I'll make posts about your options there.
BackerKit FAQ
BackerKit Crowdfunding is an all-or-nothing collaborative funding platform. Creators share their project ideas and set a funding goal with a deadline. Backers pledge money to help make the project possible.
If the project meets its goal by the deadline, pledges are charged and the creator moves forward. If it doesn’t, no one is charged.
Backers often receive special rewards for their support, such as:
- Exclusive products
- Bonus rewards for backing related projects
- Discount pricing
- Behind-the-scenes updates
- Creative input opportunities
Pledging in crowdfunding is a commitment to support the creation of a new product or project. Unlike a traditional purchase, you're not buying an item that already exists. Instead, your contribution helps bring a creative idea to life, and in return, you typically receive rewards (such as the product itself) as a thank you for your early support.
- Select a pledge level with the reward(s) you would like to receive
- Select any add-ons
- Confirm your pledge!
- You are charged only if the campaign meets its funding goal.
- Charges happen when the campaign ends, not when you pledge.
The creator will send you a survey to:
- Ask you for more information about your rewards (selecting options, etc)
- Collect shipping information
- Offer additional items you may want to add to your pledge
- Collect shipping fees (if applicable)
The survey will be sent to the email address we have on file with your pledge. Additional payments are charged when you complete the survey.
Only the project creator and the BackerKit Support Team can see your pledge and contact information. Other backers and the public cannot see your individual pledge amount or personal details.
You can change or adjust your pledge level and add-ons before the campaign ends. After the project concludes, cancellations or changes are at the creator's discretion and may depend on what stage the project is in.
Overtime Mode extends your campaign past its original end time to give backers a final chance to make their pledge. It will add an additional 10 minutes past the end time as long as pledges keep coming in. The campaign will end when there is a 10-minute period without any new pledges.
