🎉 What We Made Together

Collaboration makes everything more fun.

Edit

Hell in a Hog Waller is a war-time setting for Mausritter. Gaming groups will adventure and discover stories in an enclosed field that is being besieged by a coalition of carnivores intent on taking over the would-be paradise. Discover new allies, explore interesting locations, interact with a multitude of new factions, and wield inventive new gear that might give your adventurers the advantage they need to fend off the teeth of The Many Hungry Mouths.

How much "war" is involved? The short answer is as much or little as you want. Hell in a Hog Waller takes place during a war. Think of Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Redwall, Indiana Jones; all of these stories take place during a time of war, but they focus mainly on the adventures of smaller groups and the way those adventures may help change the fortunes of the bigger background war.

Hell in a Hog Waller is not a crunchy wargame of tracking troop movement and ammunition. It is a place to set your adventures where there is plenty of room to roam and adventure, and the missions you choose will have the ability to impact how the war is going through the simple War is Hex rules. And if the group wants to take a break from the trenches, there is a whole world outside The Forgotten Field where The Many Hungry Mouths aren't plotting.

All art shown is 100% human made and done by our team of professional artists. Everything seen here should be considered a draft; some changes may occur before fulfillment.
Edit

Once funded all backers at the Enlisted or Officer tier will receive the following:

The Hell in a Hog Waller Field Guide

A beautifully illustrated A5 gazetteer of The Forgotten Field. It contains everything your party needs to start their wartime adventures including:

Two major mice settlements: create mice from either of the two noble defenders of The Forgotten Field.
  • The city of Stonewall - industrious and inventive mice with a knack for engineering and building.
  • The Hedgerow Collective - overseen by the city of Hedgerton, a group of rustic field mice with strong connections to the land and the fey powers of old.
  • And many smaller villages and hamlets spread throughout.

A history of The Forgotten Field
  • A timeline of events, listing important moments in The Field's history such as: The Green & Golden Era, The Night of Thundering Squeals, & The Long Dark, leading up to the springtime when the war kicks into full gear with the thawing of the trenches.

New locations such as:
  • The Flutterstones - a conclave of winged insects overseen by the butterfly ruler The Duke of Burgundy.
  • The Dark Ways - a labyrinthine series of irrigation pipes that run under The Field, whomever controls them has underground access to most of The Field, but a cult of cockroaches who revere the darkness skulks here as well.
  • The Old Oak - a mighty tree from ages past. A great source of food and a true height advantage for surveying the movement of enemy forces.
  • The village of Harvest Home - a settlement that literally grew up around an old lunch pail and thermos long abandoned in The Field. Now a city of dried gourds whose inhabitants tend the crops and gather seeds into the big barn to store for the winter.
  • And many more.

Wartime Backgrounds: mice from The Field don't necessarily have Cage Dwellers, but POWs are a possibility.
  • 10 alternate backgrounds to choose from when creating a character.

New Conditions: mice at war have additional concerns than their peacetime cousins.

New Gear: necessity is the mother of invention, and war makes many things necessary, such as
  • The S.T.A.P. - Spell Tablet Amplification Pipe - a way to concentrate and amplify spells such as magic missile to shoot harder and further.
  • The C.A.P.S. - Combustible Acorn Propulsion System - once used to scare off birds of prey, this mighty acorn launching device is now a force to be reckoned with.
  • Players will have the ability to research new gear based on the missions they undertake and by engaging with The War is Hex rules. Skunk-based chemical weapons, stronger armor, or maybe even feathered hang gliders, the options are endless.

Factions & Allies
  • The Shady Mole Underground, the Rats of Haystack, The Winged Court, and more.
  • Rules for recruiting allies such as turtle tanks, rabbit fast attack transports, spider wall climbers, and more.

Two Mission Zines to get the adventure started ASAP

Operation Gate Latch
An A5 funnel adventure zine where players will take command of everyday mice used to a life of peace and harmony and join them through the momentous events that took place on The Night of Thundering Squeals. The mice that make it through the final objective of closing the farm gate and ensuring the hogs can't easily come back into The Field will come out tougher and braver than the average mouse.

Assault on the Owl's Nest
The spring thaw has come and the war is starting to ratchet up again. Good pips were paid for information leading to the nest of the owl Snagbeak, one of the generals of The Many Hungry Mouths. Not only has the nest reportedly been located, but the owl has also taken prisoner the daughter of one of the commanders of The Far Patrol and she must be rescued. Gear up to assault the owl's nest in this A5 sized mission zine!

Map of The Forgotten Field

Hand-drawn A5 map showing the major locations spread across the vast field. Double sided with a clean version on one side and a hex map on the other, great for playing War is Hex when you need to see which way the tides of war are turning.

War is Hex Supplement

A quick to run system neutral TTRPG supplement for abstracting war in the background of a campaign.

Printable Tokens

Pages of new tokens for gear, spells, and conditions.

Printable Character Sheets

  • Custom character sheets to portray your wartime mice and their potential allies; such as turtle tanks, rabbit fast attack transports, and useful vehicles like caissons and carts.

A Dashing Folio

All of the materials above will come delivered in a dashing folio sent directly from Gen. Marcus Heathertoes, leader of The Far Patrol.

Edit

The early mouse gets the cheese as the saying goes. Folks who back Hell in a Hog Waller at either the enlisted or officer tier in the first 48 hours will receive a free PDF copy of our previous Mausritter zine Chimneyhaus. Now with new content that will tie together the active McRheetz dairy farm to its distant neighbor The Forgotten Field.

Chimneyhaus is a 13 page zine that includes a cheese and beer making community of mice in the unused chimney stack of the farmhouse, 9 new factions, 7 new creatures, 2 new conditions, 6 new spells, 4 adventure sites, dozens of locations & encounters, a hex map, and beautiful art & cartography.

Edit

If you back both this campaign and The Baron's Grip Campaign, you will receive an additional supplement - a collaboration between Fey Light Studio and M. Allen Hall.

The Baron’s Grip is a sandbox campaign for Mausritter. Starting in the town of Boroden, your characters will explore Willowshade Forest and the surrounding area. They will encounter NPCs and factions, explore adventuring sites and dungeons, and visit settlements of mice, chipmunks, and rats. Whether these groups and characters are helpful or harmful in the struggle against The Baron will wholly depend on the players, their actions, and their goals.

The bonus supplement will be an A5 leaflet detailing how to entangle these two campaign settings. By planting rumors, items, and NPCs from one campaign into the other, you can lead your players through an expansive campaign that adds the resistance fighters of Boroden to the pitched combat of The Forgotten Field, or bring war refugees from Hedgerton to the fight against the oppression of The Baron.

This leaflet will be packed and shipped with your copy of The Baron's Grip. If you back The Baron's Grip at the digital only level, you will receive the PDF of this supplement.

The Denizens of The Field

Edit

Fey Light Studio has been designing and producing TTRPG material for over 5 years for a variety of genres and systems. Our Mausritter credits include the setting zine "Chimneyhaus", along with the downloadable adventure site "The Grassy Sea". We also created and successfully crowdfunded "This Ship is a Tomb" a procedural depth crawl into the bowls of an ever twisting space hulk, for the Mothership Sci-fi Horror RPG.

Brett is a cartographer, illustrator, and game designer and the creator of Hell in a Hog Waller and War is Hex. He has a degree in interior design and from a young age always loved pouring over and creating fantasy maps to go along with stories in his head. He has a fondness for fantasy genres of almost all flavors, but really delights in the concept of small beings in a large world.

James is an educator and designer living in the Midwest.  His credits include This Ship Is a Tomb, The Earth Above, What Foul Dust, and Chimneyhaus.

Isaac is a father, firefighter, and game designer living in the Midwest. His credits include This Ships Is a Tomb, The Earth Above, and The Mana Waste.

This project wouldn't be possible without a few friends old and new who decided to join us on this journey. We salute and give thanks without measure to the following:

Scarlet is an artist living in Western North Carolina. She has a fantastic ability to breath life into her characters and has a great eye for facial expressions and the little details that make things feel like they belong.

Please check out her work here: www.instagram.com/scarlet_cashion

Paul is the proprietor of Heart of the Tale and offers a wide range of in person and online professional dungeon mastering services. He was invaluable in the playtesting phase of Hell in a Hog Waller and was a driving force behind the creation of our actual play video. Check it out https://youtu.be/KJvo8JyOjT0 to see Paul in action.

As part of the discounted group shipping we are still locking in a timeframe for when all physical tiers will be shipped.

Hell in a Hog Waller is in production now and we aim to have PDF copies to all backers by the end of Q1 2026.

To give a view behind the curtain:
  • Adventure zines will be finished first as these will require adequate playtesting. Operation Gate Latch is mostly complete and ready for editing at the launch of this campaign.
  • War is Hex is also ready for editing. This is a pamphlet and has a quick turn around time. We will share this PDF as soon as it is ready to use in any of your other games.
  • The Field Guide. This will take the longest and is in production now. We are finalizing locations, factions, gear, etc. and sourcing/producing art and maps.
  • Character sheets, tokens, and maps will be completed after The Field Guide.
