Please give a warm welcome to the Linear Accelerator Cat! Linear accelerators (LINAC) are external beam radiation treatment devices used in cancer care. The primary advantage as I understand it is the ability to target cancer regions while minimizing exposure of healthy tissue to the radiation.
It is important to understand that life saving devices and treatments don't just emerge overnight. They are the result of decades of work by teams of people. It is truly a remarkable time to live!
