Happy April Everyone! You read that right, and it’s not a late April Fool’s Joke - after nearly a year of negotiation, we are happy to announce that Handelabra now owns Sentinel Comics®, including the basis for this game: Sentinels of the Multiverse: Definitive Edition, as well as the brand Greater Than Games®.

When the Greater Than Games team was mostly dismantled in April 2025, it put the future of this game in question. Yes, we technically still had everything we would need to make Sentinels of the Multiverse 2, and even the first expansion, Rook City Renegades, but what about beyond that? We had been planning a future for Sentinels 2 that would be at least as long as Sentinels 1. Plus - our development process has always been a collaborative one, what were we to do without many of our key collaborators?

While development on Sentinels 2 has never fully stopped, we slowed it way, way down while we considered how to proceed. Among the options were canceling the game entirely, and refunding you all as best we could. But the best option would be if Flat River Group would be willing to sell Sentinels/Greater Than Games to us. You know how we feel about transparency, but this is one of those situations where we really had to be publicly silent - legally and explicitly - until we were confident of the outcome, which we now are.

In February 2026, Sentinels 2 development ramped back up, and the game is still expected to ship in calendar 2026.

For you on this campaign, that is the most important information you need to know. But we know that most of you are not just Digital Sentinels fans. So what does this mean for the tabletop?

Handelabra and Flat River Group have closed a deal that brings all Sentinel Comics properties under the Handelabra umbrella. But in addition, we have purchased the brand “Greater Than Games”.

An important note because we know you will ask - the ONLY games that are a part of this deal are Sentinel Comics related properties:

Handelabra is a Digital Tabletop company. We make Digital Tabletop games. We primarily wanted to buy Sentinel Comics to protect that business, but these are tabletop games to start, and we are not interested in becoming a tabletop publisher. But lucky for us, we know a lot of good people who are good at exactly that type of business... 

April 28th, 2026 is National Super Hero Day in the US. For the entire month of April, we’ll be celebrating the future of Sentinel Comics, and by the end of the month – National Super Hero Day – you will have the answers to so many of the questions we know you have about the next movement in the symphony that is “Greater Than Games”.

For your ongoing support and excitement, we remain eternally grateful. We just ask for a little more patience over the coming weeks as we have lots to share, and we can’t wait to embark on the next phase of this journey with you!

There have been far fewer updates these last 8 months than you have come to expect from us, and for that, I apologize. Since April 2025, the future of the Multiverse, of Greater than Games®, and of Sentinel Comics® itself has been uncertain. There is a long list of questions with very few answers. Sentinels of the Multiverse 2 remains in development, and is still expected to ship in 2026.
Please Sentinels, hang in there! We believe the wait will have been worth it.

 

It’s been 2 months since the foundations of the Multiverse were shaken to their very core. Now that some time has passed, and we’ve had some crucial meetings, we are able to give you a new update on the state of Sentinels of the Multiverse 2 development. 

Due to the uncertainties that arose after the staff reductions at Greater Than Games and Flat River Group back in April, Sentinels of the Multiverse 2 has been delayed until 2026. We’re happy to say that many of those uncertainties have now been resolved. The game is still under development, and nothing else has changed in terms of our target platforms, features, and other goals.

We know this news may be disappointing for you, but we're doing our best to make sure the game comes out, even if it's a bit delayed. In the meantime, check out these rough animations we're working on for the villains taking damage!

We thank you for your ongoing support and patience. The Multiverse will live on!

Yesterday we learned that Flat River Group, the company that has owned Greater Than Games for the last several years, has chosen to essentially shut the company down in light of the current untenable tariff situation in the USA. We can't say much more beyond that as we don't know much more beyond that.

What we do know is that, as far as we have been told, this does not affect our work on the digital versions of Greater Than Games' titles. Spirit Island and Sentinels of the Multiverse: The Video Game will continue to be sold and supported, and this has not changed the status of this project.

Sentinels of the Multiverse 2 is still under development.

On a personal note, Handelabra Games would not be here if it weren't for Christopher, Paul, and Adam from Greater Than Games, who contacted us way back in 2012 to say "you said you wanted to make Sentinels digital? Well now you can!" Over these last 13 years, we have grown together alongside the Greater Than Games team, and seeing them unceremoniously ended like this is really quite tragic.

Thank you Greater Than Games for letting us play in your Multiverse all these years. We promise to be good stewards of your world, in the hopes you can one day return to ours. 💔

Warm sun has finally started to peak through the clouds of the chilly north, which means we can stretch our limbs and take a breather. While we’re doing that, let’s talk about what we’ve been up to in terms of development. 

The low level programming of the rules of the game and content (heroes, villains, and environments) is well underway. All of the Freedom Five and half of the environments are complete, along with a couple of villains to test them against. The Prime Wardens are up next! We're also working on the UI, but that's not in a place where we can showcase it yet.

Last time we showed you some idle animations, which were intentionally very subtle. The goal is a little bit of life, not a distraction. However, these heroes and villains aren't always idle! Sometimes they have to take actions, and so we're working on more animations to signify they are doing something. Here's what we have so far for the Prime Wardens and their occasional companion, Ra!
